Chapter 126: Chapter 126: As Real As It Gets

"Why did you send Xinyue out?"

Shen Nian looked at Lu Cheng helplessly. She hadn’t missed the aggrieved, reluctant look on Lu Xinyue’s face as she left.

"I came to help."

"She could have helped me just the same!"

"She’d just get in the way."

"..."

Shen Nian looked at Lu Cheng. ’Mr. Lu, is it really okay to talk about your own sister that way?’

Still, Shen Nian was happy he had come. Since Lu Cheng wanted to help, she might as well put him to work. Besides, she had long been able to sneak a little Spiritual Spring Water out of her space without anyone noticing, so she wasn’t worried about being seen.

Lu Cheng did as Shen Nian asked, washing vegetables one moment and chopping them the next, all without a single complaint. It was as if he were a blade in her hand; whatever she told him to do, he did.

A smile never left Shen Nian’s face as she watched the tireless Lu Cheng bustle around her. Of course, her own hands never faltered as she continued to cook.

In just a short while, a bowl of glistening, vibrant red-braised pork was ready.

Even though she and Lu Cheng hadn’t been together for long and she didn’t know that much about him, she could always ask!

She had long since learned from Mrs. Lu and Lu Xinyue that Lu Cheng’s favorite dish was red-braised pork.

That was why Shen Nian had made a special point of preparing red-braised pork tonight. One could say she had made this dish just for Lu Cheng.

"Have a taste and tell me what you think."

After dishing out the red-braised pork, Shen Nian picked up a piece with her chopsticks and brought it to Lu Cheng’s lips.

Lu Cheng, who was still chopping vegetables, heard her voice. He turned his head to see the piece of pork right at his lips, and beyond it, Shen Nian’s beaming face.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Lu Cheng opened his mouth and ate the pork Shen Nian offered, not worried in the slightest that it might taste bad.

To Lu Cheng, even if it had tasted awful, it was something Shen Nian had made with her own hands and was now personally feeding to him. He would have eaten it no matter what.

However, the moment the pork touched his tongue, he was taken aback. It melted in his mouth.

As someone who loved red-braised pork, Lu Cheng had certainly eaten his fair share. He’d had plenty of it, whether it was made by his mother at home or served in the company cafeteria.

And yet, Lu Cheng was certain that this was, without a doubt, the best red-braised pork he had ever eaten.

Of course, the fact that Shen Nian had made it herself was a huge bonus, but the texture itself was also genuinely, undeniably incredible.

"So, how is it? Is it good?"

After Lu Cheng finished the piece of pork, Shen Nian watched him with wide, expectant eyes, waiting for his answer.

Shen Nian was confident in her cooking skills, of course. But this was Lu Cheng, and it was the first time he was eating a meal she’d made!

’He had eaten her jerky before, but that was completely different from a freshly cooked meal!’

"It’s delicious."

Lu Cheng looked at Shen Nian and nodded, then quickly finished chewing the piece of pork. It truly wasn’t greasy in the slightest, and the flavor was superb.

"Really?"

Hearing his praise, Shen Nian’s mood soared. Her smile grew even more radiant as she looked at him, and the sight made Lu Cheng feel as if his heart were about to melt.

"Absolutely! It’s the honest truth! It’s so good I could eat this entire bowl right now, and it still wouldn’t be enough!"
