The family finished lunch, and it was still early. Shen Nian and Lu Cheng had already rested for a while, so they were in good spirits. They let Father Lu and Mrs. Lu know they were heading out.
Lu Xinyue wanted to go out with Lu Cheng and Shen Nian, but Mrs. Lu shut down the idea as soon as she brought it up.
’Are you kidding me? My son and daughter-in-law seem to be getting along well this visit, but they’ve only been married for a short time. Of course I have to create more opportunities for them to spend time together!’
’It’s a rare chance for the two of them to go out alone. What would it look like if Lu Xinyue tagged along as a third wheel?’
’Even if my daughter-in-law doesn’t have a problem with it, I, as her mother-in-law, certainly do!’
Sun Yufeng wasn’t young anymore, but she still understood a thing or two about how young people think. Her daughter was being clueless, and as her mother, she couldn’t just stand by and watch her make a silly mistake.
Stopped in her tracks by Sun Yufeng, Lu Xinyue looked aggrieved but gave up on the idea of going out with Lu Cheng and Shen Nian. Just before they left, however, she quietly sidled up to Shen Nian to remind her of something.
"Sister-in-law, you and my brother have to come back early! I want to have your cooking for dinner tonight! You have no idea, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about your food since the last time I had it. It’s a shame I haven’t learned how to make it yet. My mom’s cooking is fine on a normal day, but it can’t compare to yours at all! So, you have to come back early, please, please!"
After she finished, Lu Xinyue even put her hands together in a prayer-like pose, looking like a little glutton begging her master for a treat.
Shen Nian chuckled to herself when she heard Lu Xinyue. ’A foodie’s heart really is a simple thing!’
"Don’t worry, we’ll be back as early as we can!"
"That’s great! In that case, Sister-in-law, you two should get going. The sooner you leave, the sooner you’ll be back!"
Hearing Shen Nian agree, Lu Xinyue’s face lit up with a huge smile. She urged Shen Nian and Lu Cheng to hurry out the door, afraid they might waste even a single second.
"That girl..."
Shen Nian remarked with a laugh as she and Lu Cheng walked out of the house.
"What is it? What did Xinyue just say to you?"
Lu Cheng had seen Lu Xinyue go over to Shen Nian, but he hadn’t heard what she’d said. Judging by their reactions, it probably wasn’t anything bad.
Shen Nian repeated what Lu Xinyue had just told her, mimicking her for Lu Cheng.
"Your sister really is adorable!"
"That kiddo, how dare she order you around!"
Lu Cheng said irritably after Shen Nian finished. ’He couldn’t even bear to order his wife around, yet that kiddo Lu Xinyue had the nerve to!’
"How is that ordering me around? It’s just dinner, and besides, it’s something I should be doing anyway. Plus, you haven’t even tried my cooking yet. Don’t you want to?"
"..."
Of course Lu Cheng wanted to. ’He’d love anything Shen Nian made! If everyone at home wasn’t his family, he’d want to hoard all of Shen Nian’s cooking for himself and not share a single bite!’
"Just don’t tire yourself out."
"Don’t worry, I won’t! By the way, where are we going now?"
Lu Cheng had been the one to suggest going out, and Shen Nian had simply followed along without asking where he planned to go.
"To the police station."
"The police station?"
Right now, the only people at the police station who had anything to do with them were probably Qin Xueling and Yin Yang.
’They had just arrived this morning, and their first stop was the Bureau of Education to get my report card. Now, after resting at home for a bit and having a meal, we’re going to the police station.’
’Could Lu Cheng be planning to take care of all the leftover issues on the very first day we’re back?’
’That way, for the next two weeks, nothing would disturb us, and we’d have all that time completely to ourselves?’
