Chapter 69: Chapter 69: To Get By, You Have to Be Shameless
When this idea popped into her head, Fu Mingya’s heart began to race.
"I’ll go right now."
Bian Yuqiao cautioned her, "Be clever about it. Avoid being seen, and make sure your eldest aunt’s family doesn’t spot you."
Fu Mingya nodded. "I know."
’First step: get out of this house.’
’Leave this town.’
’Then I’ll figure out the rest.’
She was about to head out immediately, but something suddenly occurred to her. She ran back to her room to change her clothes, then dabbed some clam oil on her face.
After a glance in the mirror, she walked out of the room, her face flushed.
As luck would have it, she ran right into Fu Mingxue, who was just heading out.
When Fu Mingya saw her, she hurried forward. "Mingxue."
Fu Mingxue heard the voice and stopped, turning her head. Upon seeing it was Fu Mingya, she couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.
"Mingxue, where are you going?"
Fu Mingxue scoffed. "None of your damn business."
Fu Mingya hadn’t expected her to be so rude, and her expression stiffened.
"Mingxue, I actually have something really important to tell you. Why don’t we go to your place first?"
’Maybe I’ll get to see that man then.’
Fu Mingxue looked impatient. "If you have something to say, spit it out. If not, don’t waste my time."
Fu Mingya was incensed by her attitude.
Suppressing her anger, she said softly, "It’s about what Grandma, Grandpa, and Eldest Aunt have decided for your house. They said that after you leave, they’re going to pick the lock and give it to our second cousin, Fu Junbao."
"That’s it? I could’ve guessed that with my eyes closed. You didn’t need to tell me. Also, don’t come to my house. Otherwise, I’ll tell Yan Hongwei that you snitched on her family for scheming to steal my house." Fu Mingxue’s smile was malicious.
’I’ve said it before, there’s not a single good person in the Fu family. They’re all villains.’
’Fu Mingya is a venomous snake. Did she really think she could come snitching without wanting something out of it?’
’Heh. Not a single one of them is getting anything from me.’
Hearing this, Fu Mingya’s eyes widened in shock.
"You... how could you do this? I was just trying to be nice—"
"Hah, you’re being nice? Fu Mingya, have you forgotten what happened two years ago? When you didn’t want to be sent to the countryside, so you goaded them into secretly signing me up instead? Don’t think I don’t know you were the mastermind."
If her mom hadn’t gotten wind of it and rushed over in time, the registration would have been finalized.
Once your name was on the list, it was set in stone. You’d have to go even if you didn’t want to.
Fu Mingya’s eyes reddened. "But I was just young and foolish back then, wasn’t I? I know I was wrong now. Besides, you didn’t even end up going, did you? It’s all in the past. Considering I’m the one who suffered in the countryside for two years, can’t you just let this go?"
"Hah. The only reason I didn’t have to go is because I have a good mom. And it’s not my fault you suffered in the countryside. Why should I let it go? So you can get another chance to harm me? Enough. Let’s just stay out of each other’s way. Don’t come looking for trouble."
Fu Mingxue refused to get entangled with her and turned to leave immediately.
Left behind, Fu Mingya stared at her retreating back, her eyes bloodshot.
’She didn’t understand. I’m the one who suffered in the countryside, so why is Fu Mingxue still holding on to that grudge?’
After standing there for a long while, she wiped the miserable expression from her face.
She turned and knocked on the door.
This time, it was Mrs. Fu who answered the door. Seeing Fu Mingya, she didn’t bother to hide her displeasure. "What do you want?"
Fu Mingya’s heart sank when she saw it wasn’t the man who had answered the door.
’Is he not here?’
"Second Aunt, I came to let you know that Eldest Aunt is planning to pick your lock after you leave and have Second Cousin move in. You need to be careful."
"Second Aunt, I was young and foolish and made a mistake before. Please, don’t hold it against me."
"Second Aunt, you’re all leaving soon. Please let me make up for my past mistakes. For the next few days, let me come over and help with some chores. It would make me feel much better."
