Chapter 484: Chapter 172: You Know How to Drive (3)

The tougher she acted, the more he complied. The approach worked wonders on Jie Jingchen.

"Okay." Jie Jingchen didn’t want to disappoint Qin Mei, so he really did stop scratching. But he couldn’t help himself. When she was looking, he scratched subtly. The moment she looked away, his scratching became frantic.

A look of pity flashed in Qin Mei’s eyes. She slammed the accelerator to the floor, as if every second counted.

The speed was so fast that even Jie Jingchen couldn’t help but feel a flicker of fear. He only dared to floor it when he was driving alone. If there was even one other person in the car, no matter who it was, he wouldn’t dare.

He might not value his own life, but he had to value the lives of others.

Jie Jingchen wanted to tell her to slow down, but he worried it would distract her. At this speed, any accident would be fatal.

Qin Mei was fearless. Jie Jingchen resigned himself to the "ride or die" mentality, while simultaneously going on high alert. If anything happened, he would protect her.

When they got to the hospital, Qin Mei parked the car and looked at Jie Jingchen, whose entire body was tense. "Why are you so nervous?" she asked.

"Am I nervous?" Jie Jingchen denied it, but now that they had arrived safely, the tension visibly drained from his face.

Qin Mei pulled Jie Jingchen straight to Mrs. Xie’s office.

"Why are you two here again?" Mrs. Xie looked at them, a hint of a headache coming on. She assumed they were back to visit Old Zhang.

"Mom, it’s hives," Qin Mei said, pushing Jie Jingchen in front of Mrs. Xie.

"What!" Mrs. Xie was shocked. She took one look at his neck, her expression changing slightly, and immediately took him to get some medicine.

In addition to oral medication, Mrs. Xie also prepared an injection for his backside. The syringes from that era were thick, and the needles were terrifying—the stuff of many a childhood nightmare.

"Pants down," Mrs. Xie ordered, a syringe in one hand and forceps holding a cotton ball in the other.

Jie Jingchen’s pupils constricted, his expression full of resistance.

Seeing her son wasn’t moving, Mrs. Xie urged impatiently, "Hurry up. Pants down."

"No," Jie Jingchen refused flatly, a look of aversion in his eyes.

Mrs. Xie’s eyes widened in a glare. She could have just handed him off to a nurse for the shot. But considering how handsome her son was, what if the nurse couldn’t resist his charms and took advantage of him? That was the only reason she’d reluctantly decided to do it herself, and now he was being uncooperative.

"You little brat, are you disgusted with me? Besides being a doctor, I’m also your mother, you know!" Mrs. Xie’s temper was flaring.

"Let my wife do it," Jie Jingchen said. With his wife here, it wasn’t his mother’s place to be giving him the shot.

Mrs. Xie raised an eyebrow. ’What a waste of talent!’

"Xiao Mei, you do it," Mrs. Xie said, handing the syringe and forceps to Qin Mei.

Qin Mei shot a sidelong glance at the squirming Jie Jingchen and smilingly accepted the syringe and forceps. "Okay, Mom."

"Pants down." A playful idea struck Qin Mei. She mimicked Mrs. Xie’s professional tone.

Jie Jingchen still refused to comply. He looked at his mother. "Mom, could you step out for a moment?"

"I’m your mother. It’s not like I haven’t seen you running around the yard stark naked," Mrs. Xie teased, not forgetting to share the story with Qin Mei. "Jing Si was so naughty as a child. He was like a slippery little eel. I’d have to chase him all over the yard after he stripped naked, just to catch him and toss him in a bucket for a bath. It was such a hassle."

The image that popped into Qin Mei’s mind wasn’t of a little, naked Jie Jingchen, but...

Qin Mei’s fair cheeks instantly flushed crimson, her face filled with bashfulness.

Jie Jingchen was mortified. He gave his mother a speechless look, then turned to the bashful Qin Mei. A slight smile played on his lips; his mood had suddenly become excellent. His mother’s little contribution was the perfect finishing touch.

Qin Mei had never seen him as a child. Seeing her reaction, Jie Jingchen knew exactly what she was thinking.

Qin Mei’s gaze flickered away, not daring to meet his.

"Director Qiao." The head nurse was looking for Mrs. Xie. She knocked once before opening the door. Seeing the young couple was there too, she smiled warmly and greeted them. "Oh, Jing Si and Xiao Mei are here too."

"Hives. Xiao Mei brought him to see me," Mrs. Xie explained, pulling the head nurse out. "Let’s go, we can talk outside." She even thoughtfully closed the door behind her.

After they left, Qin Mei let out a sigh of relief. She took a deep breath before looking at Jie Jingchen. "Pants down."

"Meimei, what were you just thinking about?" Jie Jingchen asked with feigned curiosity, adding, "Your face is so red."

At his words, even the tips of Qin Mei’s ears turned an alluring shade of pink. She shot him a playfully fierce glare and demanded, "Are you getting this shot or not?"

Jie Jingchen stared at her blushing face. ’Her flustered anger is so captivating,’ he thought. In a teasing tone, he said, "If my wife is giving me the shot, then of course I’ll get it."

"If you’re going to get it, then hurry up and drop your pants." The more Jie Jingchen dawdled, the less patient she became.

A roguish smile played on Jie Jingchen’s lips. "You help me," he said slowly.

"Don’t you have hands?" Qin Mei growled through gritted teeth.

"I do." Jie Jingchen raised his hands and wiggled his fingers in front of her. "I’m scared of needles. I don’t dare take my pants off."

Qin Mei was utterly defeated. This needle was much thicker than her silver needles. She figured he must have gotten a lot of shots as a child, leaving him with a deep-seated fear.

She’d done far more outrageous things. Helping him take his pants off was child’s play.

"Hold these." Qin Mei handed the syringe and forceps to Jie Jingchen, then crouched down to help him with his pants.

Jie Jingchen wanted to take them all the way off, but Qin Mei didn’t grant him his wish. She only unfastened his pants and pulled them down a little. Jie Jingchen was slightly disappointed.

"Give them here." Qin Mei held out her hand. After hesitating for a few seconds, Jie Jingchen handed the syringe and forceps back to her.

She took them, disinfected the area, and then stuck the needle in. Jie Jingchen flinched reflexively, his muscles tensing. Qin Mei glanced up at him. "Don’t be nervous. Relax."

Qin Mei gently rubbed the area as she administered the medicine. A moment later, she pulled out the needle and pressed a cotton ball to the injection site. "Hold this yourself."

For once, Jie Jingchen didn’t argue. He obediently held the cotton ball in place.

Qin Mei let him rest for a moment. She lifted the hem of his shirt to check. After the medicine and the shot, the rash hadn’t disappeared, but at least it had stopped flaring up.

"Xiao Mei, are you done?" Mrs. Xie asked as she came in.

Jie Jingchen hadn’t pulled his pants back up yet. He had been hoping Qin Mei would do it for him, but his mother’s sudden entrance gave him a good scare. Ignoring the sting from the injection, he hastily pulled up his pants.

"Mom, can you please knock first?" he complained. "What if things were getting heated? If you just barged in, Meimei would have been so embarrassed."

Qin Mei looked at Jie Jingchen. She thought he was making a mountain out of a molehill.

"Tch!" Mrs. Xie scoffed at her son’s resentful expression. "This is my office. Why would I knock on my own door?"

"Meimei, let’s go." Jie Jingchen took Qin Mei’s hand and led her out of the office.

"We’re leaving, Mom," Qin Mei said, turning her head to look back at Mrs. Xie.

"Alright. Be careful on your way out." Mrs. Xie waved, an elegant smile on her beautiful face.

The medication had a sedative in it, so Jie Jingchen wasn’t in any condition to drive. Qin Mei took the wheel on the way back, driving slowly and steadily. Jie Jingchen felt himself growing drowsy.

They arrived home. Qin Mei parked the car and saw that Jie Jingchen had fallen asleep. She gently shook his shoulder. "Jie Jingsi, we’re home."

Jie Jingchen was jolted awake and blinked dazedly at Qin Mei.

"Get out of the car. Go inside and sleep." Qin Mei got out first, but Jie Jingchen didn’t move. He waited for her to open his door. He was a patient, after all, and patients get top priority. This was the perfect time to depend on her care.

Qin Mei patiently and good-naturedly indulged him.

She opened his door and helped him out. Jie Jingchen didn’t hold back, leaning his tall frame against the petite Qin Mei.

"Jie Jingsi," Qin Mei grunted, struggling to support his weight.
