Chapter 1217: Meeting of the five
Meanwhile, one an undisclosed location in the Upper regions of the Royal Continent, a small meeting took place.
This meeting was enshrouded in darkness and mystery. For the sake of the five people inside this room, no one should ever know that they met in one location.
After all, if anything happened to these people, the foundations of the world would quickly crumble and chaos would reign in society.
These were none other than the leaders of the current five greatest companies in the entire world. The conglomerates!
At one end of the circular table sat an old man. If one were to see this person in the streets, one would quickly dismiss him as a decrepit senior who was way past his prime.
But everyone knew that this was a facade. A trap to lure in his prey before he pounced.
After all, this man was the most feared person in the entire world. Perhaps, the only people who would equal him in terms of reputation would be the Supreme Beings of the other species. Some would even say that he was the current Supreme Being of the human race.
He was Yze Vanderbilt. The owner, leader, and founder of the most successful conglomerate in the entire world.
"So we meet again, my friends," Yze said to the group of men and women by his side. "We should do this more often."
His company wasn’t enthusiastic about his words.
"I fear for the world if the time comes when we meet daily," said a stern man on Yze’s left.
His words were not an exaggeration. Whenever the leaders of the Conglomerates meet, it wasn’t because they wanted to catch up to each other. It was because they wanted to discuss a matter that could change the very nature of the world itself.
Their latest meeting discussed the great migration of the Beastfolks onto the Royal Continent.
And now, of course, their meeting would undoubtedly touch upon the disappearance of magic.
"You Oscorpes don’t have any fun, do you?" Yze said. "Have you no whimsy?"
The stern man with pepper hair was the current Patriarch of the second ranked Conglomerate in the world. He was Zander Oscorpe, the only man who could rival Yze in terms of business acumen.
"Can we be serious here? Magic is gone. Am I the only one who’s thinking about it? Our smiths aren’t working properly."
The man who spoke was a bald old man with a dark complexion. The well-built muscles underneath his overalls made up for the fact that he was a head shorter than everyone else in this room.
He was Wracken Hepheasteus, the current leader of the greatest human smiths in the world.
"Aw, are you lacking in fire already? Want me to sell you a volcano?" said a middle-aged woman wearing a monocle.
She might look young, but she was the oldest person in this room. She attributed her young complexion to the fact that she was a well-travelled woman, but everyone here knew that she was using some kind of Aubility Power to keep her youth from sagging.
Of course, the truth was probably more obscure. Her Conglomerate owned more territories around the world than any of the four other Conglomerates. Combined.
Her name was Uveira Goldstone. The queen of real estate. It was estimated that she owned about 40% of the entire world.
"I don’t need your volcanoes. I need a solution," said Wracken, pounding his hand on the table. "Sinclair. Surely you can fix this."
The Hephaestus leader turned to the pink-haired old woman at the other end of the circular table. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
Sinclair was the greatest apothecary in the world. She could cure anything and everything. Some even said that she could cure death itself.
Her great healing powers paved the way for her company to become a Conglomerate. It was all built on the shoulders of a single woman.
So, if there was anyone who could cure the world’s disease, its lack of magic, then surely she was the only one who could do so.
"The loss of magic in the world is simply a symptom. Even if I returned mana to our atmosphere, it would not fix our problems," she said.
She spoke those words easily, yet the contents of them were nothing less than shocking. She made it seem as if she could return mana into the world! And none of the Conglomerate leaders spoke out disproving it. Meaning, it was most likely true.
"Magic will keep disappearing, unless we deal with the real disease," Sinclair said with cold indifference. "You all know who they are."
The Conglomerate leaders were well aware of the Ersatz threat. They were also aware of what they had to do to defeat them.
It was just a matter of working together. With all five Conglomerates working together, no underground organization would be able to withstand their onslaught of power.
But despite gathering together in a single room, these Conglomerate leaders had absolutely no intention of working together.
These people were smart. Cunning. They know that the loss of magic was a threat to all of their way of living.
But they also know that it was an opportunity. An opportunity to get ahead of everyone else.
Every single person in this room would eliminate each other in a single heartbeat if the opportunity presented itself.
So, they were all just waiting. Watching until one of them stumbled. And then, they could either reach out their hand to help, or push them down even deeper into despair.
That’s why they were all so wary of each other. Why they dare not reveal any of their hidden cards.
"Well, does anyone want to help me destroy the Ersatz?" Yze suddenly asked.
This was the hand they’d been waiting for. But instead of saying anything, everyone else turned even more silent. freēwebnovel.com
If there was anyone here who dare not underestimate, then it was Yze. The man was a lion in the truest sense. He dared walk through the jungle because he knew... he knew he was the king among them.
