Chapter 1195: Assassins caught

Three demi-human figures, all clad in these Draconian-like scales, emerged from the darkness, completely catching the entire table by surprise.

"What is the meaning of this?!"

"An intrusion?!"

Immediately, guards from the Upper Echelon companies stepped forward and protected their leaders, while simultaneously drawing their weapons towards the Dragonborns. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

Such a surprise, it wouldn’t have been unthinkable if some of these guards became too hasty and attacked the Dragonborns.

However, the appearance of these demi-human completely took the breath right out of their lungs.

The Dragonborns stood there, unbothered, their scales glimmering under the light of the torches all around the room. They looked like mythical figures, one that had come from the legends and stories from old.

But they weren’t the only ones who had emerged from these shadows. freёwebnovel.com

In front of the Dragonborn were figures completely clothed in black, their faces and discerning features obscured by a dark mask over their heads.

Immediately, some of the people began to think that these were the infamous Ersatz zombies! It definitely looked like it.

"Just a few minutes ago, my friends over here were suddenly attacked by figures who were completely covered in black clothes from head to toe.

The attacks were vicious, intending to kill them in one fell swoop. In fact, these people weren’t the only ones who had attacked them. They were the only ones who survived."

After Michael’s explanation, the people around the room erupted in whispers and talks amongst each other. They began to speculate about the attack.

But amongst looks of surprise and shock, there were a small group of people who exhibited fear, shock, and apprehension.

After all, they were the ones who sent the assassin towards the Dragonborns in the first place! They had sent these assassins after them the moment that the votes weren’t going their way. It was their last ditch effort to stop Reborn’s momentum.

The Anti-Reborn faction all looked at each other, before once again going into their private conversation.

"I can’t believe it! How could this have happened!"

"We sent our strongest Maugnetics! These are all high level Body Formation cultivators led by 9th stage fighters!"

"How could they have been defeated this easily? And how could they have let themselves get caught?! We all told them to detonate themselves upon failure!"

They all started to panic. This all stemmed from the fact that they were afraid of Reborn’s potential.

Once they’d heard that one of the Dragonborns had awakened the Ancient Roar, these people began to get worried.

Even if it wasn’t true, they couldn’t let that Dragonborn be left alive. And so, they made the tough and impulsive decision to have the assassins kill the Dragonborns in order to stifle Reborn’s potential.

And to do so, they sent out their strongest cultivators.

But even then, it didn’t work! Because of this, they then began to wonder.

"Could it have been true?..."

They all looked towards the dark blue-scaled Dragonborn in front.

Jaku kept on yawning as he sat on the bloodied and battered body of an assassin. It frightened these people that such a terrifying power was hidden inside this young demi-human.

"Let us not fret. They don’t have any evidence that we did this."

"That is true. Just act normal. We have our alibis and these assassins will never get traced back to us."

Once they decided on this deflection tactic, they put their focus back onto the table.

"I see! I recognize those attires. Those bastards Ersatz had tried to attack you!"

"They’re truly despicable people. It is fortunate that you were able to defeat them."

"I suggest that we should all kill them right now before they escape."

Michael observed these people try and talk their way out of this, but they were completely obvious in his eyes.

He’d been watching them from the very beginning. When the Dragonborns showed up with those bloodied and beat up figures, they were the only ones who exhibited some kind of anxiety and panic.

Everyone was confused and wanted to gossip about the assassination attempt. But they were panicked, as if they had just figured out that their plans had failed completely.

Try as they might, they couldn’t hide their true fear.

"That’s very funny," Michael said. "From the surface level, it does look as if it was the Ersatz who attacked the Dragonborns. Too much like it, I would say. As if someone purposefully made it seem as if the Ersatz did it to avoid suspicion."

Upon hearing Michael’s accusatory words, some people couldn’t help but get worked up.

"Are you saying..."

"No way. An assassination attempt? From us? Junior, that is too much!"

Now, the Reborn company was a very divisive figure within the Upper Echelon society. But most people wouldn’t go so far as to conduct an assassination!

After all, once it was proven, they’d get in a whole lot of trouble with the Montgomerys, as well as the rest of the Upper Echelon society. No one would trust them!

Michael smiled. "I never said it was from the Upper Echelons. But it’s good that you said it. After all, I believe that the ones who put out the hit stands in this very room..."

The Rebornian opposition were immediately unnerved. But they didn’t show it outwardly. They looked angry and indignant, as if they were being given a misjustice.

"How can you say that, junior, when we’ve been opposing you this whole time. People would think that we were the ones who planned the assassination!"

True enough, most of the people at the table immediately put their suspicions on the most vocal members of the Anti-Reborn faction.

"Let us ascertain the truth! Since you have conveniently brought us the perpetrators, it is only natural that we inspect them."

The Anti-Reborn faction immediately proposed that the investigation be done by an impartial party.

They didn’t have to cheat. After all, they were 100% sure that these assassins would never sell them out. They were trained from birth to be expendable. To erase their memories, their loyalties, and everything else upon their failure.

Michael smiled. "Why don’t we just ask them ourselves?"
