Chapter 2136: Chapter 2039: Missing
Greedy people can never fill their endless desire for money, and once they realize their cash cow will no longer provide them with unlimited funds, Huo Sining is certain that this heartless couple will definitely target Tongtong to satisfy their need for revenge.
Even now that Huo Sining has accepted Elisa’s request, even if she and Elisa were strangers, upon learning about Tongtong’s abuse by her adoptive parents, she would definitely not stand by indifferently.
Because the actions of these adoptive parents instantly reminded her of her own childhood, recalling her atrocious relatives, Huo Yong and Xu Lian, and remembering the humiliation and abuse she suffered while living at her uncle’s house.
Having experienced those times, she only wishes that every child in the world could have a beautiful childhood and not follow her old path.
Moreover, these adoptive parents of Tongtong surpass even the likes of Huo Yong and his wife in greed and inhumanity; such people absolutely do not deserve to continue acting as Tongtong’s parents.
Huo Sining no longer had the mood to listen to the filth coming out of this couple’s mouths and directly turned around and walked out. As she reached the door, she took advantage of the moment when the child in the yard wasn’t paying attention to wave her hand and bring Tongtong into Space.
Inside the house, the Tong couple was still discussing how they could continue to trick more money from Tongtong’s mother, and also planning to send their son to a prestigious school and buy a big house for him, preferably a villa.
The couple was busy painting a beautiful blueprint for their future, not at all mindful of the adoptive daughter they had sent outside to wash the vegetables, who at this moment had already disappeared.
The two continued to murmur quietly until the sky gradually darkened. As they began to feel hungry, they finally came to their senses, realizing that they hadn’t cooked yet, and the woman hastily urged her husband to do so.
Tong Jian, following his wife’s urging, stood up and headed towards the kitchen, suddenly remembering that he had earlier assigned the task of washing vegetables to the adoptive daughter.
Considering how long they had been inside the house, he couldn’t help but frown deeply, suspecting that the adoptive daughter might be slacking off. He walked outside and shouted:
"Tongtong, bring in the vegetables once they’re washed, and while you’re at it, clean the rice!"
Usually, when he’d shout like this, the adoptive daughter would come right in with the basin of washed vegetables, not daring to say a word of objection. But today, for some reason, even after waiting for several minutes without any sign of that defiant girl coming in, he was puzzled.
Not getting a response, Tong Jian’s anger surged. He cursed as he walked outside:
"You deadbeat girl, are you deaf? I told you to bring the vegetables in! Haven’t you heard? If I don’t teach you a lesson in three days you’ll think you’re the boss here! I see, you’re looking for trouble..."
Tong Jian cursed and swore as he walked out of the house, grabbing a broom behind the kitchen door to hit the person. But as soon as he stepped out, he noticed something was wrong.
The yard was quiet; there were basins and baskets placed by the faucet, and water was continuously flowing, yet the little girl was nowhere to be seen.
"Damn it, where has that deadbeat girl run off to?"
Scanning the yard and finding no sign of the adoptive daughter, Tong Jian’s brows furrowed tightly, his eyes seemed to ignite with fury.
His gaze fell on the wooden gate in the yard, noticing it was half open, which made Tong Jian’s expression darken.
He convinced himself that Tongtong must have run off to play while washing vegetables, thus the door was left ajar, fueling Tong Jian’s ire further.
Earlier, he had admonished his wife to be cautious with their adoptive daughter, insisting that while discipline was necessary, it mustn’t show outwardly.
But now, discovering the adoptive daughter had secretly played hooky while working, Tong Jian was more than ready to grab the girl and punish her severely.
Back in the house, Zhang Jing heard her husband cursing, and raised her voice asking, "Husband, what’s wrong? What happened?"
Tong Jian carried the vegetable basket and basin inside, and after re-washing the vegetables with warm water at the kitchen faucet, he went to the bedroom and said, "It’s nothing. It’s just that cheap brat Tongtong. I told her to wash vegetables in the yard earlier, and she turned on the faucet over the vegetable basket and ran off. Ten to one she’s gone to play!"
"That deadbeat girl, I knew she wasn’t honest. Lately, she’s been going out every day, and we don’t even know what she’s up to. She can’t even make milk powder properly for Hanghang. What’s the point of keeping her?"
Tong Jian said nothing, but his somber expression showed he fully agreed with his wife.
After Zhang Jing finished venting, she seemed to remember something and suddenly added:
"Speaking of which, that deadbeat girl somehow heard about enrolling in school at six years old and came asking me when she would get to go to school!"
"Hmph, that waste dares to dream about schooling, she’s delusional! Luckily I was smart when that woman handed over the brat, I didn’t register her at all. Had she been registered, we’d have had no choice but to send her to school!"
"It’s compulsory education nowadays, nine years of primary and junior high school, just imagine the wasted money on fees! It’s perfect now, she’s an undocumented girl, so even if she’s not sent to school, the police won’t investigate, nor will it come back to bite us. Not only do we save on school fees, but we also have that brat doing chores around the house, it’s a win-win!"
Zhang Jing cursed while feeling smug, evidently very pleased with her foresight not to register the child.
Tong Jian also agreed with his wife’s foresighted decision; today’s education costs are a big financial burden, just thinking about the possible expenses for sending the adoptive daughter to school made him cringe.
The couple had plans to use the adoptive daughter as a maid, never considering schooling her. After some more chatter, Tong Jian quickly cooked several dishes and then called Zhang Jing for dinner.
As for Tongtong, the couple never intended to save her any food; that defiant girl had dared to disobey and run out to play, and so Zhang Jing and her husband decided to teach her a lesson, not only withholding food but also ensuring she got a good beating when she returned, at least to make her remember not to secretly run off next time!
The couple sharpened their knives, preparing to discipline Tongtong later. But what they didn’t expect was that they waited until past ten in the evening, and Tongtong still had not returned.
Then, Tong Jian and Zhang Jing started to realize something was wrong.
"That brat doesn’t have the guts for staying out so late even if she’s playing. Husband, is it possible something happened to her?"
