Chapter 2131: Chapter 2034: A Huge Help

"As for that diary, when she is a little more mature, Miss Huo, when you think it’s suitable, give it to her. I hope that after reading that diary, she can forgive me, her unfit mother."

"Finally, I need to mention something important: I know you and Mr. Gu have probably already copied the data from my memory card. I hope you can preserve it well and use it properly because the data in your hands is likely the only copy in the world."

"Take care, and see you in the next life!"

After reading the letter, Huo Sining sat dazed on the sofa for a while, unable to shake off her stupor.

Even though she had already suspected something was wrong when she received Elisa’s call and heard her strange state, she never expected things to be so dire. Locke and Jason were dead, and even Elisa’s life hung in the balance—she had likely been killed.

Based on the information revealed at the end of Elisa’s letter, it seemed Elisa had distrusted the company from the moment she received the assignment. So, after obtaining that confidential information, she likely took precautions—handing over a fake data folder to the company during the mission handover, while destroying the memory card containing the real data.

However, Huo Sining still found it strange why Elisa would say that this data was the only copy in the world.

Unable to figure it out after much thought, Huo Sining called Gu Xu and explained the situation in detail.

After a brief silence on Gu Xu’s end, he spoke:

"Do you remember the day those drug dealers were frantically searching for us, even alerting the Mexican traffic police and regular police? Typically, those drug dealers wouldn’t lose their composure like that, even risking exposure of their connections with the police. What does that indicate?"

Huo Sining was startled: "A cornered dog will leap over a wall?"

Gu Xu nodded: "Exactly, it must be that Tranleva was furious. But why would he react that way? Supposedly, as a big shot among the Mexican drug lords, he’s a man of depth. No matter how big the issue, he shouldn’t lose his cool like this. Yet, such a man was enraged. What does that indicate? It shows that what Elisa did completely infuriated him."

After a pause, Gu Xu smiled: "If Elisa had just copied the data from Tranleva’s hands, he probably wouldn’t have been so angry. I previously suspected Elisa was too extreme, likely destroying the original data in Tranleva’s possession while copying it."

"I was just guessing before, but seeing this letter confirms it. Elisa single-handedly turned Tranleva’s game upside down, completely ruining all the cards in his hand, which is why he’s so infuriated."

Hearing Gu Xu’s analysis, even though Huo Sining was mentally prepared, she couldn’t help but gape in shock and amazement.

Thinking back, the events in Mexico really were thrilling. If not for her special abilities, and their quick decision to escape Mexico by boat, staying in Mexico for even a day or two longer likely would’ve had Tranleva closing off ports and airports, preventing any hope of escape. Just attempting to hide would’ve been problematic, as they’d have found themselves surrounded by Mexican drug dealers, potentially meeting the same fate as Locke, Jason, and the others.

Reflecting on it now, Huo Sining felt a chill of fear—how lucky they had been.

"However, in this scenario, Elisa indirectly did us a big favor," Gu Xu said on the other end of the call.

"What kind of favor?" Huo Sining asked curiously.

Gu Xu chuckled: "I’ve handed the confidential data over to Chief Lu, but Tranleva will definitely think that this data is now held by Elisa’s company. So, if he takes any actions, his target will surely be Elisa’s employer, not us. That company inadvertently attracted his ire for us!"

Understanding Gu Xu’s point, Huo Sining added: "Elisa certainly anticipated this scenario. Perhaps she already prepared by ’accidentally’ leaking her company’s information to those drug dealers. That mercenary company really failed their plan this time, not only failing to obtain the data but also drawing the attention of a bunch of Mexican drug dealers."

"However, we shouldn’t let our guard down just because of this; after all, we showed up in Tepito, and there’s no guarantee the drug dealers won’t retaliate against us. You still need to be careful during this time. Don’t be careless."

Huo Sining nodded in agreement, taking the matter to heart. However, she believed that with her abilities, those drug dealers wouldn’t gain any advantage over her.

Yet, looking at the box in front of her and thinking of Elisa, who likely met a tragic end, Huo Sining still felt an overwhelming heaviness.

Even though she’d only met Elisa once, and despite Elisa’s cunning and scheming, even against Ouyang Jun, Huo Sining couldn’t help but feel heartache and sorrow. She admired Elisa’s resilience and strategy, once considering the idea of recruiting Elisa under her wing. But she never imagined her farewell in Mexico would be a permanent goodbye.

Although unaware of which company Elisa worked for, Huo Sining had seen enough spy and mercenary films and TV shows to know how ruthless and brutal such companies could be in dealing with their subordinates.

The company had already planned to kill Elisa and her team to silence them. Once they discovered the data Elisa returned was forged, they would certainly be outraged and determined to eliminate any loose ends, leaving no survivors.

Therefore, Elisa’s survival was practically impossible.

Huo Sining let out a long sigh, carefully organizing the items in the box, ensuring everything Elisa mentioned in her letter was accurate before finally feeling at ease.

The contents represented a mother’s truest and heaviest love for her child. Coupled with Elisa’s thought to leave final instructions during such perilous times, Huo Sining wasn’t a cold-hearted person and naturally wouldn’t betray Elisa’s trust.
