Chapter 36: Chapter 36 - Royal Academy ( Part 6)

The first official week of classes at the Royal Academy had started under the spring sky.

Students ran all over the huge campus carrying their books, swords, and staves.

The academy was alive with activity.

There were sounds of laughter from its courtyards.

Magic shined on the training grounds.

Steel sounded in the Sword Hall.

The voices of professors were everywhere.

It was everything Jennie had hoped to avoid.

She sighed.

"...Too many people."

Beside her, Princess Lilia smiled brightly.

"I love it."

"I noticed."

The schedule of Jennie was somewhat different from the schedules of other students.

She had to attend Princess Lilia’s classes as the official royal attendant.

Prepare tea during breaks.

Arrange study materials.

Care for the royal residence inside the academy.

Ensure that the princess comes to the classes.

Surprisingly...

It was the hardest task.

"Lilia."

"I’m listening."

"You’ve been staring at the window for twenty minutes now."

"I’m observing nature."

"The professor is giving a lecture on magical history."

"I’m observing historical nature."

Jennie closed Lilia’s book.

"No dessert."

Lilia gasped.

"You fight dirty."

After the third day...

Jennie somehow got very popular.

But not because she wanted to.

Because she couldn’t stop helping people.

In front of the Sword Hall...

First-year student continuously cut with the sword, clearly frustrated.

"No..."

"My stance is still incorrect."

Jennie passed by this place with the basket full of freshly ironed uniforms.

She just looked at him.

Then she stopped.

"...Can I?"

Boy was surprised.

"Do you know swordsmanship?"

"A little."

She put the basket on the ground.

Walked to the student.

Fixed his feet a little bit.

Lowered his shoulders.

Turned his wrists a little bit.

"There."

The student swung his sword.

It easily cut the target.

His eyes widened.

"It worked!"

Jennie smiled.

"You were using too much strength."

"Just let it go."

She picked up the basket and walked away.

The student was speechless.

"...Who was she?"

Unfortunately...

It was seen by the Sword Hall’s instructor.

Professor Gareth Ironwood.

The best sword master of the academy.

He looked in the direction of the door where Jennie left.

"That correction..."

He whispered.

"...Perfect." freeweɓnovel.cøm

Later that same afternoon...

Jennie went to the academy library to return several books borrowed by Lilia.

She saw a group of magic students struggling with an advanced mana circle.

"It’s unstable."

"No, the fourth rune is wrong."

"The professor said it should work."

Jennie looked at the scheme.

Then tilted her head.

"The fourth rune is correct."

The students turned.

"It isn’t?"

Jennie took the piece of chalk.

Drew one additional line in the mana circle.

"You use the modern formation of the spell."

"This spell is dated to the Age of Heroes."

"The mana should flow spirally before going to the center."

She stepped back.

"There."

The students activated the spell.

It shined perfectly.

"...It worked!"

"Incredible!"

"Who taught you ancient rune theory?"

Jennie blinked.

"...Books."

Then she excused herself before someone could ask another question.

At the same time...

The word continued spreading.

"The princess’s maid fixed a third-year spell."

"I heard that she corrected Professor Gareth."

"Someone said she memorized the entire academy library."

Each story became even crazier.

Jennie wanted to deny each of them.

Unfortunately...

She was too busy polishing the silverware.

Even the Spirit Garden of the academy was not safe.

On one quiet afternoon, Jennie noticed that the garden had been overgrown.

Weeds surrounded the flower beds.

Dead leaves covered the stone paths.

Moss was covering the fountain.

"...This is unacceptable."

The old habit came.

Within an hour...

Everything in the garden changed.

The flowers bloomed beautifully.

The paths became shiny.

The fountain sparkled with sunlight.

All looked peaceful.

Then something strange occurred.

Little lights began to appear from the flowers.

Little wind spirits.

Little water spirits.

Even some earth spirits.

Little elemental beings were joyfully dancing around Jennie.

Like thanking her.

Some students nearby stopped moving.

"...Spirits?"

"They are surrounding her..."

"I’ve never seen anything like this."

Jennie looked around innocently.

"Oh."

"...Hello."

The spirits joyfully flew around her head.

Then disappeared in the breeze.

Jennie blinked.

"...That was cool."

She did not notice that dozens of students watched the scene.

Next morning...

She entered the courtyard of the academy with Lilia’s books.

Everyone suddenly fell silent.

The students began to step aside.

Not from fear.

From curiosity and respect.

Jennie looked around.

"...Why is everyone staring?"

Lilia smiled.

"I told you."

"You have become famous."

Jennie covered her face.

"...I miss cleaning windows in the palace."

A calm voice interrupted them.

"You."

Jennie turned.

A young man with black hair and blue eyes was standing a few meters away from her.

A practice sword rested on his shoulder.

Aiden Drakon.

The best young swordsman of the academy.

He bowed respectfully.

"My name is Aiden Drakon."

Jennie answered with the same gesture.

"Jennie Queens."

"I watched your sword examination."

"...I’m sorry."

Aiden blinked.

"...Sorry?"

"I tried to make a poor performance."

Silence.

Several nearby students watched them in disbelief.

Aiden could not understand whether she joked.

Her face expression was serious.

For the first time in years...

He laughed.

Really.

"I’d like to challenge you to a duel someday."

Jennie smiled politely.

"I respectfully refuse."

"I wasn’t asking."

"...That’s a pity."

Just before they could continue the conversation...

Another voice was added to their discussion.

"Excuse me."

Graceful girl with silver-blue hair approached.

Sophia Everwinter.

She was holding several books in her hands.

"Lady Jennie."

"Yes?"

"I’ve been studying your mana control abilities."

Jennie stopped.

"...Please don’t."

Sophia smiled gently.

"I want to talk about ancient mana theory with you."

Jennie looked at the sky.

Goddess...

Why me?

At this moment...

Another laugh was added.

"My, my."

Beautiful princess with blond hair was approaching.

Princess Elena Valefor.

"So you are the famous maid."

She reached out with her hand.

"I think that we will be wonderful friends."

Jennie shook her hand.

"I hope so."

Lilia narrowed her eyes.

Instantly.

Before everyone understood...

Another pair of ruby-red eyes watched everything from the nearby balcony. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

Scarlett Voris.

She watched how Jennie politely speaks with the best students of the academy.

She frowned.

"...A maid..."

Then she silently left.

"This will not last long."

But she was not sure of it herself.

Jennie looked around at the gathering crowd.

The best swordsman.

The best mage.

Foreign princess.

Dozens of curious students.

And the jealous royal princess standing very close to her.

She sighed heavily.

Just one thought was filling her head.

"I wanted a peaceful life."

"Instead..."

"I’ve somehow become everyone’s problem."

High above the academy, the laughter was heard over the ancient towers.

But Jennie did not know that...

Those meetings were not accidental.

It was just a beginning of new friendships, rivalries, and destinies which would shape the future of the continent someday.

And this was just the first week.
