Chapter 2: Chapter 2 – Rebirth

Darkness.

There was no pain.

No sound.

No perception of time.

Leonis floated in the void between life and death. The last thing he remembered was the smiling face of the Goddess of Creation and her promises.

"A thousand years from now..."

And then...

Light.

Strange warmth embraced him.

Voices muffled nearby.

"...Push!"

"I can see the baby’s head!"

"Ladies Queens, just a little bit more!"

Leonis frowned.

"Voices?"

His body felt... tiny.

Very tiny.

He attempted to open his eyes.

Blurry ceiling welcomed him.

His vision did not focus.

He attempted to raise an arm.

But...

Tiny hand barely larger than a leaf twitched.

"..."

Leonis stared.

"... What?"

His thoughts were interrupted.

No mistake.

Those were his hands.

"Why are my hands so tiny?"

Before he could comprehend...

Loud cry escaped his lips.

"Waaaaah!!"

Leonis’ eyes widened in terror.

"That wasn’t supposed to happen!"

He attempted to stop crying.

But...

"WAAAAAAAAH!!"

"Body! Listen to me! Stop embarrassing yourself!"

Crying became even louder.

Several women laughed with joy.

"What a healthy baby!"

"A strong pair of lungs!"

"Congratulations!"

"No! I am trying to speak!"

"WAAAAAAAAH!"

Leonis wanted to hide his face in shame.

Unfortunately...

He could not even move his neck.

...

Several minutes later...

He was tightly wrapped in a soft blanket.

Beautiful woman with chestnut hair smiled weakly holding him.

"My little girl..."

Girl?

Leonis blinked.

"Girl?"

His young mind digested those words extremely slowly.

Girl...

Girl...

Girl?

His eyes slowly shifted downwards.

The blanket covered almost everything.

He could not check it.

"Surely... she misspoke."

One of the maids beside the bed smiled.

"She has your eyes, my lady."

Another one nodded.

"And she is absolutely adorable."

Girl.

Again.

Leonis felt strange uneasiness growing in him.

"Perhaps... perhaps they are mistaken."

Surely.

There were mistakes before.

All he needed was confirmation.

He got his chance sooner than he expected.

One of the maids changed his clothes carefully.

Leonis looked.

Looked carefully.

And then...

His soul left his body for three full seconds.

"I’M A GIRL?!"

Scream echoed only inside his head.

Outside...

"... Aaah."

Only baby cry escaped.

The maid giggled.

"So quiet already."

"Quiet?! My entire identity collapses!"

He needed answers.

Where was the goddess?

This was not how it should be.

"Miasa! Explain yourself!"

Silence.

"I specifically requested to live for the sword!"

Nothing.

"You never told me about becoming a girl!"

Silence again.

Leonis sighed internally.

"Very well."

"Complaining will not change reality."

He endured worse circumstances before.

This...

Was just another obstacle.

Probably.

...

Several hours passed.

Leonis observed everything around.

The room was not luxurious.

It belonged to an average noble family.

The furniture was elegant but old.

The curtains were patched several times.

The fireplace warmed the room barely.

"Not royalty."

Good.

This fitted him.

No throne.

No politics.

Exactly what he desired.

A middle-aged man came to the room.

His clothes were clean but simple.

At the sight of the baby, his tired look softened.

"My daughter..."

He carefully held Leonis in his arms.

"I will protect you."

Leonis silently looked into the man’s eyes.

There was sincere kindness in them.

No desire.

No greed.

Only love.

"A good father."

It was enough.

The man smiled.

"We will call her..."

He glanced at his wife.

"What do you think?"

She smiled warmly.

"...Jennie."

He nodded.

"Jennie Queens."

The name settled into the room.

Jennie Queens.

Leonis KingHeart ceased to exist.

...

Several days passed.

Jennie quickly noticed something strange.

Mana.

It filled the air.

Much denser than in her previous life.

She could not see it with her eyes.

But...

She could feel it.

Streams moving in the world.

Each living being had it.

The trees.

The birds.

Even the candle flame.

Mana flowed around naturally.

"Interesting."

"The magical energy of the world has changed."

Without thinking...

She reached out to floating stream of mana.

It immediately responded.

The mana gently circled around her tiny finger.

The room became warmer.

The candle blazed brightly.

The flower that was lying beside the bed instantly bloomed.

The maids gasped.

"The baby..."

"Have you seen that?"

"It must be the wind."

"There is no wind..."

Jennie immediately stopped.

"Oops."

"Maybe babies are not supposed to manipulate mana."

Note to self.

Hide everything.

...

Several weeks later...

Jennie created the routine.

Eat.

Sleep.

Observe.

Repeat.

Simple.

Except...

There was one problem.

Babies required constant care.

Every time she peacefully observed mana flowing outside...

She was picked up.

"Oh, she is awake!"

Cheek pinch. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

"So cute!"

Head pat.

Tiny kisses.

Jennie’s face remained completely blank.

"I once commanded armies."

Pinch.

"I negotiated peace between kingdoms."

Another pinch.

"Please stop pinching my cheeks..."

Her mother smiled lovingly.

"So squishy."

"They are not squishy."

Pinch.

"They are strategic assets."

Another maid entered.

"My turn!"

Jennie silently accepted her fate.

"Perhaps this is my punishment for ruling too well."

The room was full of laughter.

Outside, the snow slowly started melting under the spring sun.

High above the world, out of reach of mortal eyes, Goddess Miasa observed quietly.

She smiled.

"You requested to live only for the sword."

Her golden eyes softened.

"But before the sword..."

"You should learn how to live again."

Down below, Jennie yawned despite herself.

"One day..."

"I will become the greatest swordsman..."

She hesitated.

Correction.

"No..."

Tiny smile appeared on her tiny face.

"The greatest swordswoman."
