Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Secret of The Grand Library
The Grand Library of Aurelius Academy was massive.
Tall shelves stretched upward for several floors while floating mana lamps drifted quietly through the air like blue fireflies. Ancient books filled every corner of the building, and the smell of old paper, ink, and dust created a strangely calming atmosphere.
Lina stood near the entrance with wide eyes.
"...This place is bigger than my village."
Qhuin sat quietly on her shoulder beneath the small black ribbon Elizabeth had forced onto him earlier that morning.
He still hated it, every few minutes his ear twitched in annoyance whenever he felt the ribbon brushing against his neck.
Several students walking past immediately stared at him.
"A rabbit in the library?"
"So cute..."
Qhuin ignored them while grooming one paw with fake laziness.
Lina adjusted the books in her arms nervously before walking deeper into the library.
After missing several lessons due to the evolution incident, she needed to catch up quickly if she wanted to survive in Class A after her classes.
Unfortunately—
Class A students were terrifying, half the books she borrowed looked thick enough to kill someone.
Lina eventually found an empty table near one of the giant windows overlooking the academy courtyard.
She sat down heavily.
Qhuin immediately hopped onto the table beside the books.
The moment Lina opened the first history text, his crimson eyes sharpened.
’Finally, some useful information.’
The pages contained detailed records about Solaria’s early history.
Three hundred years ago, the world had been normal, with nonmana, no spirit beasts, and no Beast Tamers.
Then came the Great Convergence.
According to the texts, a massive blue mist had descended from the sky and spread across the planet. Animals exposed to the strange energy mutated rapidly into giant monsters. Entire kingdoms collapsed within months as cities were overrun.
Humanity nearly went extinct.
Qhuin’s ears twitched slightly while reading.
’So this world was born through mutation’.
The books continued describing how early humans discovered soul-contracts. By linking their mana with beasts, people gained the power needed to survive the new world.
That discovery eventually created modern Beast Tamer society.
Qhuin slowly pieced things together inside his mind.
This world was completely different from his old world.
His battle against Valerius, It must have torn open space itself and thrown his soul into Solaria.
’But then how did he arrive here’ he thought about Valerius
Lina quietly scribbled notes beside him while mumbling to herself.
"Mana adaptation... early contracts... convergence period..."
Qhuin glanced at her briefly.
The girl looked completely focused now, her silver hair falling across her face while she studied seriously.
’Not bad.’
At least she wasn’t completely useless anymore.
Then—
Crunch.
Qhuin froze, his mouth was unconsciously chewing something.
He slowly looked downward. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
A small green leaf from one of Lina’s snacks hung from his mouth.
Silence.
His face twisted with horror
’Why am I eating plants again!!!’
He instantly spat the leaf onto the table with disgust.
Lina blinked.
"...Snowy?"
Qhuin quickly turned away and pretended nothing happened.
His rabbit body truly had no dignity.
After several more minutes of reading, Lina pulled another book from the shelf nearby.
This one looked much older.
The cover read:
[Wild Factions Beyond the Cities]
Qhuin immediately became interested again.
Lina opened the pages carefully, Inside were records about dangerous territories outside human civilization.
Monster nests.
Ruined kingdoms.
Rogue Beast Tamers.
Then—
The Moon-Howler Clans.
A large illustration showed massive wolf-like figures standing beneath a crimson moon. They looked half-human and half-beast, carrying crude weapons while glowing eyes stared from the darkness.
Lina shivered slightly.
"These are creepy..."
Qhuin continued reading carefully.
According to the records, the Moon-Howlers were once normal Beast Tamers during the early Convergence era. But centuries ago, many fused permanently with their contracted wolf beasts through forbidden rituals.
The result created something new.
Werewolves.
Not fully human.
Not fully beast.
The clans now controlled large wilderness territories outside the major cities and constantly clashed with nobles, churches, and beast tamers.
Qhuin’s crimson eyes narrowed slightly, the vampires of his old world always treated werewolves like attack dogs. freёwebnovel.com
And apparently, the churches hunted them here too.
Hatred created opportunities.
If he could control the werewolves then they would be useful. Very useful.
A future alliance perhaps.
Then Lina opened another section discussing hidden races, most pages focused on old myths.
Sea spirits.
Ancient dragons.
Shadow beings.
And vampires.
Qhuin’s attention sharpened instantly.
The text described vampires as extinct predators that once hunted humans before disappearing centuries ago. According to the records, ancient vampires possessed terrifying regeneration, blood manipulation, and the ability to dominate weaker beasts.
The illustration showed tall monsters with glowing red eyes standing over piles of corpses.
Qhuin looked offended, that artwork was terrible.
He looked much better than that.
Lina glanced at the image and quietly hugged him closer against her chest.
"Good thing vampires aren’t real anymore."
Qhuin stared at her silently.
’If only you knew, brat.’
Suddenly his ears twitched sharply, and he heard footsteps and someone approaching.
Qhuin immediately lifted his head.
Elizabeth walked between the bookshelves carrying several more textbooks against her chest. The moment she spotted Lina, her entire face brightened.
"Oh! Lina!"
Lina jumped slightly. "P-Professor Elizabeth?"
The woman smiled warmly before noticing Qhuin sitting in Lina’s arms, and immediately melted.
"There’s my favorite student."
Qhuin’s eye twitched.
She wasn’t talking about Lina.
Elizabeth hurried over happily before placing the books down.
"He still has the ribbon!"
Of course, he still had it.
Lina nervously laughed. "I thought it looked cute..."
Qhuin looked away bitterly, feeling betrayed by everyone.
Elizabeth gently scooped him into her arms before he could escape.
She scratched beneath his chin carefully while smiling.
"You’re so calm compared to other beasts."
Qhuin tried maintaining his dignity.
Unfortunately—
The scratching reached behind his ears, his body instantly relaxed against his will.
’Traitor nerves!!!.’
His hind leg kicked weakly against Elizabeth’s sleeve while his eyes half-closed from comfort.
Elizabeth gasped happily.
"Oh no... he’s adorable."
Several nearby students turned toward the scene immediately.
Qhuin wanted nothing but to just die but instead, he received more ear scratches.
Then Elizabeth noticed the open vampire history page beside Lina.
Her expression changed slightly.
"Researching old myths?"
Lina nodded. "I was curious about the hidden races section."
Elizabeth smiled softly again.
"Most of those creatures disappeared long ago."
But for a brief second, Qhuin noticed something dark pass through her eyes, hatred. Pure hatred.
Then it vanished completely beneath her gentle smile.
"Though personally," Elizabeth continued sweetly, "I think the world is much cleaner without vampires in it."
Qhuin slowly opened one crimson eye.
