Chapter 2383: Chapter 2383: Stealing

The beauty was incredibly stunning. Long Rui felt a moment of distraction, then realized it was in public. He pulled himself together and turned to glare fiercely at Long Yi.

Long Yi shivered, lowered his head, and tried his best to minimize his presence.

Everyone in the War Prince’s Mansion knew that the prince was madly in love with his wife. Disturbing the Princess Consort’s rest would certainly anger the Prince, so it was best not to provoke him.

At this moment, Long Yi truly despised his own tall stature; he wished he could shrink a little to avoid catching the Prince’s attention.

"Why are you still standing around? Go investigate the tunnel and see where it leads!"

"Yes, I will go immediately, my lord."

After speaking, Long Yi dashed off, genuinely fearing that if he moved too slowly, the Prince might exile him to a barren land.

Soon, Long Yi, with his subordinates, followed the tunnel entrance and found that mansion.

However, it was already too late; the place was long abandoned.

Long Rui immediately ordered to seal the city gates, allowing entry but prohibiting exit.

Two hours later, at the City Gate Tower.

"Clip-clop, clip-clop...!"

Several fast horses galloped forward, and people on the street hurriedly stepped aside as a man on horseback shouted, "Soldiers at the gate, listen to the order! The War Prince has urgent business to attend to, open the gate quickly."

The voice carried far, heard clearly by the civilians on the street.

The soldiers guarding the city gate looked and saw a tall man among the riders, dressed in purple, wearing a fierce mask; he was indeed the War Prince.

Earlier that morning, it was the Prince who ordered the city’s lockdown. Now that he arrived, the gate guards dared not delay and fumbled to open the gate immediately.

The fast horses did not stop for a moment, swiftly galloping out of the city gate.

A cloud of dust was left in their wake.

The soldiers and citizens were puzzled; what exactly was going on? Why was the War Prince’s Mansion acting so oddly today, sealing the city at dawn, and now both the Prince and Princess Consort seemed alarmed and left in such a hurry?

Everyone watched the riders fade into the distance, feeling very puzzled.

"You all don’t know, do you? The War Prince’s Mansion lost a treasure last night," said a woman who looked like a servant, speaking mysteriously as she approached.

"Impossible, the War Prince’s Mansion is heavily guarded. Who would have the skill to steal something?"

The citizens expressed disbelief.

"There are many talented folks in the world. You frogs at the bottom of the well think the War Prince’s Mansion is so secure?" The woman said with some scorn.

"Hey! Who are you, acting like you know everything? What exactly happened last night? Tell us!" The crowd surrounded her, asking persistently.

"Never mind who I am. All I know is someone infiltrated the War Prince’s Mansion last night, stole a treasure, and the War Prince was furious, which is why the city was locked down."

"That can’t be! The Prince is highly skilled in martial arts. How could he not defeat a robber?" Upon hearing that someone managed to steal from the War Prince’s Mansion, the people expressed disbelief.

"Which shows what you don’t know. The guards in the mansion were afraid of disturbing the Prince and didn’t report in time. Only after the treasure was stolen did they think of reporting to the Prince. Wasn’t it too late then?"

"How are you so sure? Who are you?"

"Never mind who I am. What I’m saying is the truth."

The woman smiled mysteriously, said no more, and left with a vegetable basket in her hand.

"Hey, who was that person? Could she be a servant at the War Prince’s Mansion?"

"Who knows? I don’t recognize her, but from the way she spoke, it seems quite credible."

"Oh my, who is bold enough to steal from the War Prince’s Mansion?"
