Chapter 2381: Chapter 2381: The Treasure Pavilion Is Robbed
"Oh no, what should we do? It’s already the fourth watch!"
Outside, the sound of the Night Watchman rang out four times; it was now the Chou Hour, almost dawn, and Big Brother hadn’t returned yet. Fat Man was so anxious he was pacing in circles.
Just then, there was a sound from the tunnel. His spirit lifted as his huge body leaned into the entrance, shouting inside: "Big Brother, Big Brother, is that you coming back?"
The echo in the tunnel was loud, and his voice carried far. After a long while, there was a reply from that side: "Hey! Fatty Brother, I’m back!"
Fat Man finally relaxed. It would be best if Big Brother returned before it got dark; it would be too dangerous to stay in the War Prince’s Mansion once it was bright.
"Oh! I’m exhausted." Thin Man climbed up, panting heavily.
"What’s up, Big Brother? Did you find the treasured sword?" Fat Man eagerly asked.
"Got it, got it, just not sure how sharp it is." Thin Man was hugging a long wooden box, looking like he had succeeded.
Unexpectedly, they had stolen the treasured sword so smoothly, he couldn’t help but be overjoyed.
"It was pitch black inside, no idea if it’s sharp." Thin Man tossed the wooden box he was holding out of the tunnel and scrambled out, using both hands and feet.
"Oh, I was about to suffocate inside."
Thin Man’s clothes were full of dirt, making him look filthy and haggard.
Fat Man couldn’t wait and had already picked up the wooden box. He opened it and saw a shimmering treasured sword, three feet two inches long, half a finger wide, with a fiery red blade clearly etched with golden patterns. The crimson hilt had a foot-long red ribbon fluttering, and a few emerald jewels were embedded in it.
He gently touched the tip of the sword, quickly withdrawing his hand, his small eyes brightening as he smiled and said, "Big Brother, we’re really destined not to die. This is truly a rare treasured sword."
"Really?"
"Could your brother lie to you? Don’t forget, both our lives depend on this sword."
"Right, right!"
"No time to lose, let’s pack up and head to the underground palace."
"No need to hurry that much, it’s not even daylight yet!"
"It’ll be too late if we wait till daylight. If War Prince discovers the sword missing, he’ll lock down the entire city. By then, we won’t be able to get out and will be trapped here. If we go beyond seven days, all our efforts will be wasted."
Oddly enough, even though the underground palace was in the Capital, they exited to the outside of the city.
In the Capital, they didn’t know where the underground palace’s exit was. They couldn’t climb back through the tunnel and risk a fall again! Who knows where it would lead this time? So, to ensure nothing goes wrong, they could only go outside the city, back to the underground palace from where they fell.
"But at this hour, the city gates aren’t even open yet."
"We can wait by the city gates, and as soon as they open, we’ll leave immediately."
"Alright."
Thin Man also agreed with his brother’s suggestion. So, he changed out of his dirt-covered clothes and began to pack, which was really just two sets of clothes and some Silver.
The two of them, under the cover of night, hurried to the city gate.
.........
As dawn barely broke, the War Prince’s Mansion was in an uproar.
"It’s not good! Someone broke into the Treasure Pavilion and stole the treasure."
The guard at the entrance of the Treasure Pavilion, who had dozed off, suddenly realized someone had broken in, panicking and shouting loudly.
Long Yi, leading the guards, hurried over: "What’s going on? So much noise early in the morning, aren’t you afraid of waking up the Prince and Princess Consort?"
