Chapter 2376: Chapter 2376: Unappreciative
Xuexue couldn’t help grumbling inwardly. All you do is nitpick others and never reflect on yourself. I’m the Master here, and I still get nagged by you every single day.
"My lady, this maid is talking to you. Did you hear me or not?"
"I heard you!"
"From now on, you need to be a bit stricter with the servants, don’t be too easygoing."
"You sure about that?"
"Of course. The Master is the Master, servants are forever servants. You have to keep the hierarchy clear."
Xuexue looked at Zi Xia with a half-smile and said, "Then your lady has a comment to make."
"Go ahead, this maid is all ears."
"I’m really going to say it!"
"Say it."
"Zi Xia, can you stop nagging your lady every single day? Don’t forget, I’m the Master, you’re the servant. How can you get the roles so mixed up?" Xuexue mimicked Zi Xia’s tone to perfection.
Zi Xia was dumbfounded. Her heart collapsed in an instant. My lady, how can you do this? I’m clearly doing this for your own good, and yet you use my own words to shut me up. My lady is so ungrateful.
Zi Xia pouted, stomped her foot, and said in a coquettish tone, "My lady!"
"Cluck-cluck-cluck...! Serves you right!" Suddenly, a shrill laugh rang out.
It turned out to be coming from Xiao Jiu perched on the beam.
"You stinky Birdy, what are you laughing at?" Zi Xia was a bit furious and embarrassed. Being talked back to by her lady was one thing—she’s the Master after all, and she herself is only a Maid. But being looked down on by a Birdy? That instantly ticked her off.
Xiao Jiu: "I’ll laugh if I want. What the hell’s it got to do with you?"
Zi Xia was so mad she was hopping around down below, but she just couldn’t reach Xiao Jiu on the beam, so she could only flap her lips: "Aiya, even a stinky Birdy like you dares to bully me now?"
While they were bickering away, Xuexue quickly finished eating.
"Alright, alright, stop arguing, off you go!"
Zi Xia stuck out her tongue at Xiao Jiu. "You hear that? Time to go back."
Xiao Jiu: "Even going back, I’ll be faster than you."
With that, it flapped its wings and whooshed out the door.
"So unsociable. Be careful someone doesn’t catch you and roast you up." Xuexue called after it. This Birdy was such a handful, always wanting to run off and play outside.
It had no idea how vicious people could be. Xuexue felt it was her duty to teach it to see things clearly. This was the human world, not some deep forest where everything was as simple as snakes, bugs, rats and ants. The person smiling warmly at you this second might gut you and eat you the very next.
"Pfft...!" Zi Xia couldn’t help bursting out laughing. How come my lady talks exactly like the Prince—every other sentence is about roast Birdy.
Hearing Xuexue shout, Xiao Jiu suddenly whirled back around: "Master, don’t worry. Xiao Jiu is super smart, no one can fool me. I’m the one who fools other people."
Is it really appropriate for a little Birdy to brag like that?
Xuexue and Zi Xia rolled their eyes in perfect sync.
Xiao Jiu: "What? You don’t believe me?"
Xuexue: "It’s not that we don’t believe you."
Hearing that, Xiao Jiu happily flapped its wings and cried out in delight, "I knew it, Master trusts Xiao Jiu the most!"
But no sooner had it finished than Xuexue said with a perfectly straight face, "It’s that we really, truly don’t believe you at all."
A slap in the face—blatant, naked face-slapping.
Zi Xia laughed even harder. At first she still covered her mouth with her hand, but then she just burst into full-on laughter: "Ah hahahaha...!"
Xiao Jiu felt very wronged and said, "Master, how can you gang up with Zi Xia to bully me!"
Xuexue looked utterly innocent and asked blankly, "Did I bully you?"
Xiao Jiu pitifully bobbed its little bird head, covered its chest with its wings, striking a heartbroken pose, and said, "Yes, Xiao Jiu’s tiny heart is shattered into pieces and more pieces."
