Chapter 167: Chapter 167: Gift
When passions run high, it’s easy to forget your surroundings.
Just as the two were lost in a passionate kiss, a knock came at the door, followed by Wenfeng’s voice, "Xiaowu! Meng Meng! Time for lunch!"
The suggestive, romantic atmosphere in the room instantly froze. Wen Meng scrambled off Wu Yun, smoothed out her slightly disheveled skirt, and said with a mix of allure and shyness, "Get up, quick! It’ll be so embarrassing if my parents see this!"
Wu Yun sat up on the soft bed, a sense of disappointment washing over him.
He gave the front of his pants a pat. ’Settle down,’ he thought, ’your time to shine will be tonight.’
Seeing Wu Yun’s action, Wen Meng covered her mouth and giggled. She leaned over, revealing her cleavage, and whispered something in Wu Yun’s ear before immediately turning and running out, just barely dodging Wu Yun’s playful swat.
"You little temptress!"
...
Four dishes were already set on the dining room table.
They were all home-cooked—three meat and one vegetable. The sight and smell were so appealing that Wu Yun’s mouth began to water.
Wenfeng was seated, and he pointed to the chair next to him, saying, "Xiaowu, sit here! How about a couple of drinks with lunch?"
Wu Yun saw the bottle of Maotai next to Wenfeng and, after a moment’s thought, didn’t refuse.
"Come, come! Let’s eat!"
Wen Meng handed Wenfeng and Wu Yun each a bowl of rice, then turned and went back into the kitchen.
A moment later, Wen Meng returned, her face blushing, and sat down with two more bowls of rice.
Once Tang Chunmei was also seated, Wen Meng felt the atmosphere was a bit awkward, so she got up and retrieved three gift bags from the coffee table.
"Dad, Mom! These are the watches Wu Yun bought for us."
Wen Meng handed the Jaeger-LeCoultre gift bag to Wenfeng, then passed the two Breguet gift bags to Tang Chunmei. "Mom, these two are for us. You can pick one first!"
Wenfeng and Tang Chunmei’s knowledge of watches was limited to brands like Rolex and Tissot. They didn’t recognize the English names for Jaeger-LeCoultre or Breguet, but looking at the gift bags, they guessed the watches weren’t cheap.
Wen Meng said with a smile, "Wu Yun actually bought these on the day you arrived. He wanted to prepare gifts in advance for his first formal visit."
Following Wen Meng’s words, Wu Yun added apologetically, "Uncle, Auntie, I didn’t prepare much for my first visit, so I thought I’d buy you each a watch."
Tang Chunmei quickly replied that he was being too kind.
"Uncle, Auntie, please see if you like them. If not, I can exchange them," Wu Yun said with a smile.
Wenfeng and Tang Chunmei exchanged a glance, then stopped being polite and took the boxes out of the bags to have a look.
"Meng Meng, see which one you like. You pick first!" Tang Chunmei said, handing the two boxes to Wen Meng.
Wen Meng knew her mother’s personality, so she didn’t refuse. She directly chose the Marine 8828BR/5D/586/DD00 model with the white strap.
The remaining one, a Marine 8818BB/59/864/DD0D, naturally went to Tang Chunmei.
Tang Chunmei gazed at the sparkling diamond dial, finding it hard to look away.
Wenfeng was also full of praise for his business-style Jaeger-LeCoultre Master 1302520.
"Mom! Dad! Stop looking for now. You can admire them later, after we eat. The food’s getting cold!"
During lunch, he had a few drinks with Wenfeng. By the end of the meal, Wu Yun was also heaping praise on Tang Chunmei’s cooking.
"Xiaowu! Go sit down and rest! Meng Meng, take Xiaowu to the guest room to lie down. He must be tired after driving for so long this morning!"
Unable to refuse Tang Chunmei, Wu Yun stopped insisting on helping to clear the table.
Seeing Wu Yun go into the guest room, Wenfeng took a delicate envelope out of the Jaeger-LeCoultre gift bag and removed the receipt inside.
Wenfeng’s hand trembled, and the receipt almost fell onto a dinner plate.
"Old Wen, what are you getting so worked up about? You didn’t even drink that much at lunch!"
Tang Chunmei asked in confusion as she deftly cleared the dishes.
Wenfeng didn’t answer right away. Instead, he carefully examined the amount on the receipt. After confirming he hadn’t misread it, he said grimly, "Honey, guess how much my watch cost."
Tang Chunmei, holding a stack of plates, turned and said, "How much? Thirty thousand? That expensive?!"
Seeing her reaction, Wenfeng said, "Take the dishes to the kitchen first."
Tang Chunmei came back out moments later and asked curiously, "How much?! Stop being so mysterious!"
Wenfeng glanced toward the guest room and said in a low voice, "Almost three hundred thousand!"
"What! What did you say?!" Tang Chunmei’s voice shot up twenty decibels.
Wenfeng handed the receipt to Tang Chunmei, who wiped her hands on her apron before taking it.
A moment later, her hands were trembling too.
She could imagine that her and Wen Meng’s watches were probably in the same price range.
And sure enough, the prices for the other two watches weren’t much different.
"Old Wen! This is too expensive! We can’t accept this!" Tang Chunmei put the receipt back in the envelope, then took the watch box from in front of Wenfeng and placed it in the bag.
Wenfeng watched reluctantly as the Jaeger-LeCoultre box was taken away, but he didn’t try to stop her.
"Meng Meng! Meng Meng!"
Tang Chunmei called out a few times before Wen Meng emerged from the guest room, her face slightly flushed.
However, her parents were too preoccupied to notice.
"Meng Meng, be honest with me. Did you know how much these watches cost?" Tang Chunmei asked, staring sternly into Wen Meng’s eyes.
Wen Meng looked innocent. "I don’t know. After you two went home that day, Wu Yun bought them and put them in the car. I only found out a few days later when I saw them. There were so many classmates around at the time, so I didn’t ask him how much they were."
Seeing the looks on her parents’ faces, Wen Meng instantly understood what was going on. "Mom, are the watches very expensive?"
Having been in college for a while, Wen Meng had worked many part-time jobs and been exposed to different social circles. She knew that some watches were more expensive than a car.
There was even a saying in watch enthusiast circles: "The poor play with cars, the rich play with watches!"
"Almost three hundred thousand! Three watches mean nine hundred thousand! That’s the price of an apartment! You silly girl, how could you let Xiaowu buy something so expensive?"
Tang Chunmei normally lived a comfortable life without any financial pressure, but she still had a very clear sense of value.
Hearing this, Wen Meng hesitated for a moment before saying, "Mom, Dad! These watches seem very expensive to you, but to Wu Yun, it’s honestly like someone with ten thousand yuan deciding to buy a three-yuan popsicle."
"Believe it or not, if I call Wu Yun out here, he’ll say the same thing. He’s already bought me a car worth two or three million and an apartment worth over a million. Do you really think he’d care about nine hundred thousand?"
"From what I know of Wu Yun, he could have bought even more expensive watches. He chose these specifically because it was his first visit."
Wen Meng had long grown accustomed to Wu Yun spending money like water. Plus, with the skyrocketing number of registered users for his Little Red Car and the profits from the massive security deposits, Wu Yun could probably buy a Lamborghini every month from the deposits alone.
Of course, Wen Meng couldn’t possibly tell her parents all this.
Wen Meng thought for a moment, then added, "Mom! Do you know how much the watch Wu Yun is wearing costs? It’s also a Jaeger-LeCoultre, the same brand as Dad’s."
