Chapter 155: Chapter 155: Roll Call in Class

"First are the issues we’ve identified by compiling customer feedback."

"The main problems are an insufficient number of bikes, improper parking, and equipment malfunctions."

Wu Yun watched Li Yan present the PowerPoint with poise and confidence, nodding in satisfaction.

Wu Yun already had a plan in mind for the problems plaguing the shared bike industry. He and Li Qiuliang had discussed a strategy; they were just waiting for Little Yellow Car and Mobike to grow larger before delivering a crushing blow!

...

"The third key issue is the external environment."

The PowerPoint slide changed, showing a yellow and an orange section, labeled OFO Little Yellow Car and Mobike, respectively.

"Because of our company’s successful precedent, besides our Little Red Car, there are now two other players on the market: Little Yellow Car and Mobike."

"Everyone knows about Little Yellow Car. They’re like a shit-stirrer, just there to make life miserable for everyone!"

Li Yan’s words made everyone in the room laugh. They were all aware of Little Yellow Car’s recent tactics, which were indeed designed to spite Little Red Car.

"Little Yellow Car has recently deployed another large batch of bikes into the market. What’s different this time is that they’re starting to expand beyond university campuses."

"As for Mobike, aside from our colleagues in Modu, most of you have probably never heard of them."

"According to reports from our Modu colleagues, a shared bike company named Mobike has appeared on the market there."

Hearing this news for the first time, everyone felt a chill and couldn’t help but sit up straighter.

"Mobike is currently promoting their bikes aggressively. Of course, they’ve already released a small number of shared bikes onto the Modu market!"

"According to Mobike’s promotional materials, they plan to launch on a large scale on October 1st."

"As for how many they’ll deploy, that’s unknown."

"One can imagine that the Capital City and Modu will be the focal points of competition in the future!"

Li Yan closed her notebook and said with a smile, "Don’t be too nervous, everyone. Our company is currently far ahead of both of them. So, what we need to do is open up more markets. Walk their path, and leave them with no path to walk!"

"Now, let’s welcome President Li Qiuliang to explain the company’s development plan for the fourth quarter of 2014!"

"Let’s welcome President Li!"

Applause erupted as Li Qiuliang walked to the podium.

"Good morning, everyone! I’ll keep it short and get right to our company’s development strategy for the next quarter!"

...

The monthly summary meeting ran from nine-thirty all the way to ten-thirty.

After Li Qiuliang finished his report, he invited Wu Yun to give a concluding speech.

Wu Yun had no desire to drone on with a summary like the principals from his past life. Instead, he kept it simple: "Work hard, everyone! Whether or not I get to ride in a Rolls-Royce is all up to you!"

Even including his past life’s experience, Wu Yun was still just a young man in his twenties.

This joking remark brought knowing smiles to the faces of many company veterans. They knew their chairman was speaking the plain truth.

"Alright, jokes aside! If you do well, I definitely won’t be stingy at the annual meeting! There will be a mysterious grand prize! I’ll give you a little hint: a car will be one of the rewards! So work hard, everyone!"

Whether in a state-owned or private enterprise, most employees don’t care how much the company earns; they only care about how much they can take home.

So, the grand promise Wu Yun made was genuinely swallowed by many, who began excitedly discussing what kind of car might be given as a reward after the meeting.

After the meeting ended, seeing Wu Yun about to bolt, Li Qiuliang shouted from behind, "President Wu, don’t forget about tonight!"

Wu Yun checked the time and saw that he could make it just in time for the break during his second long-period class.

This long-period class was for his major, taught by a male professor. In Wu Yun’s memory, this professor had the lowest skip rate.

For no other reason than this: Old Liu liked to do a surprise roll call during the second half of the class.

Back in his previous life, when he had just started university, many people had fallen for this trick, including Wu Yun himself.

Wu Yun hadn’t told his academic advisor about his situation yet, so he decided he should still attend this class to be present for the roll call.

As Wu Yun walked into the classroom for his major, Liu Yongheng and Li Shiming, who had been fooling around, froze mid-action.

"Uh! Boss, aren’t you going to skip—" Before Li Shiming could finish the word "skip," Liu Yongheng clamped a hand over his mouth.

"Fuck, you and your big mouth! You’re a fucking liability!" Liu Yongheng noticed Old Liu at the podium looking their way and decided to just restrain Li Shiming completely.

"Scoot your ass over!" Wu Yun’s hand flew past Li Shiming’s scalp in a light smack as he took over his spot.

Li Shiming finally realized he had almost gotten them in trouble and explained, "Boss, I didn’t mean to say you were skipping class!"

Even though he whispered, he couldn’t escape a two-pronged attack from Wu Yun and Liu Yongheng. Throughout the break, only Li Shiming’s sharp cries could be heard.

"AHHHH! I was wrong!"

"Hey, hey, hey! What are you three students in the back doing?! Pulling down pants in broad daylight! Class is starting!" Old Liu lifted his head and pointed at the trio in the back row.

In an instant, everyone in the classroom turned to look at them.

Li Shiming was frozen stiff, his hands holding up his casual pants, but a long section of his red underwear had been pulled out from behind by Liu Yongheng.

Meanwhile, Wu Yun had Li Shiming’s head locked firmly against his waist.

The classroom fell silent for a moment, then erupted in uproarious laughter.

But Li Shiming, as if he had a case of terminal shamelessness, broke free from their grasp, stood up, and adjusted his boxers.

Seeing everyone staring at him, Li Shiming put his hands on his hips and said in a somewhat sassy voice, "What are you looking at? Never seen a guy in red underwear before?"

"Pfft~"

Li Shiming snapped the waistband of his red boxers with both hands, pulled up his pants, and sat down.

Once everyone had turned away, Li Shiming’s face fell. "It’s over, it’s over! My reputation is completely ruined! You two have to treat me to a meal! Or else—"

Liu Yongheng cracked his knuckles and said with a wicked grin, "Or else what?"

Seeing he was about to be ganged up on again, Li Shiming swallowed hard and said, "Nothing. Actually, going Dutch is pretty good."

...

Actually, Old Liu’s lectures were quite interesting. He often used examples to illustrate concepts in microeconomics.

For instance, he brought up interesting cases like why you generally can’t buy the best oranges in the very place they are grown.

Of course, he didn’t delve into overly profound cases. After all, they were just beginners, and most students wouldn’t be able to grasp the meaning.

Halfway through the lecture, during a natural pause, Old Liu said, "While everyone is still absorbing and digesting the material, I’ll go ahead and call roll. Raise your hand when I call your name so I can get to know you all!"

’That’s Old Liu for you,’ Wu Yun chuckled inwardly, ’always with the unpredictable surprise roll calls.’

"Liu Yun!"

"Here!" A girl in the front row raised her hand.

"Hu Yuanyuan!"

...

"Li Shiming!"

"Here!" Li Shiming raised his hand weakly.

Old Liu chuckled. "So you’re Li Shiming! Quite the historical figure, aren’t you! I’ll remember you! From now on, before class, I’ll check if you’re here. If you’re not, I’ll start the roll call."

Li Shiming wanted to cry but had no tears, feeling the immense pressure on his shoulders.
