Chapter 33: Family Heirloom
William stared intently at his father, waiting for him to speak.
Karl didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he glanced toward the small kitchen where Elena was busy cooking. After confirming that she wasn’t paying attention to them, he pulled William aside.
William was a little confused when Karl pulled him away, but he didn’t say anything.
After making sure they were far enough away that Elena wouldn’t be able to hear them, Karl finally spoke in a low voice.
"Your grandfather once told me that, in his youth, he was fancied by a noble lady. It happened during the winter when heavy snow was falling. He saved a helpless woman who had lost her way in the snowstorm and was on the verge of death. After being saved by your grandfather, she fell in love with him..."
At first, William listened carefully. However, as Karl continued telling the story, he gradually began to feel that something was wrong.
A few minutes later, when the story reached the part where his grandfather decided to end his relationship with the noble lady because of the difference in their statuses, black lines were already throbbing on William’s forehead.
He took a deep breath to calm himself down and stop himself from committing the heinous act of brutally scolding his father. Squeezing out a smile, he spoke.
"Father, please stop talking. I feel like... I feel like if I hear any more, I won’t be able to hold myself back."
Karl stopped speaking when he heard William’s words and nodded with a sorrowful expression.
"I understand you, son. When your grandfather first told me this story, I also couldn’t hold back and burst into tears."
William’s mouth twitched slightly because he wasn’t talking about tears, but about the words he wanted to spew that would make even his ancestors cry.
"Is there anything else you can tell me about Grandpa or Grandma? Something that is probably... not a tragic story, but something truly important."
He actually wanted to say "made-up story," but in the end, he changed it to "tragic story" to show some respect for his deceased grandfather.
"Hmmm?" Karl fell into deep thought after hearing William’s question.
Suddenly, he seemed to remember something and spoke in a slightly strange tone.
"It’s not anything special, but there is a family heirloom that has been passed down from generation to generation. When your grandfather gave it to me, he told me it was something our ancestors had left behind and that it was very precious. Though, that thing looks very ordinary and doesn’t seem precious at all. Even your grandfather didn’t know what it was and simply kept it because it had been passed down through many generations."
William’s eyes finally rippled when he heard this, and he immediately asked.
"Where is this heirloom?"
After learning that there were traces of Divinity in his blood, William had begun to suspect that there was something unusual about his family’s history.
About the divinity in his blood, the only explanation he could think of was that it had been passed down through his bloodline.
Moreover, it wasn’t just him. He suspected that Samuel also had Divinity in his blood, strengthening his suspicion that there was something unusual about their family.
Now that his father had mentioned a family heirloom passed down through countless generations, it wasn’t strange for William to think that this object might hold some of the answers he was looking for.
"That thing was completely useless, so I seem to have forgotten where I put it." Karl said with a shake of his head.
’How did I never notice that my old man was so unreliable in my previous life...’ William thought inwardly, the corners of his eyes twitching.
"Father, that thing was something Grandpa entrusted to you for safekeeping. Isn’t it a bit too much for you to toss it somewhere and completely forget about it?"
Karl felt slightly embarrassed after hearing William’s words, but he quickly defended himself.
"I must have put it together with my other important belongings. Once I return from work this evening, I will look for it and show it to you."
William could only nod at his explanation. After all, he couldn’t exactly grab his father and force him to search for it right now.
"I just hope you didn’t throw it away..." William muttered under his breath as he turned around to leave.
"Do you think I am stupid? Even though that thing looked useless, it was still our family’s heirloom. There is no way I would throw it away. It must be somewhere in the house. I will look for it this evening."
William didn’t respond and simply returned to his room to take a bath.
As he poured cold water over his body, his tense nerves gradually relaxed. Putting the matter of the heirloom aside for the time being, he began thinking about what he should do next.
’The most important thing right now is to break through to the Star Warrior Realm and complete the trial.’
After breaking through, he would finally be able to use many of the techniques he had in mind.
He also needed to practice them to make them more suitable for his current self.
Then there was also the matter of the Aether Affinity Test next month.
If people discovered during the assessment that he was already a Star Warrior, it would bring him a great deal of trouble.
After all, most cultivation techniques were controlled by the nobles. If the son of an ordinary farmer suddenly appeared as a Star Warrior, it would immediately arouse suspicion.
’I only need to safely get through the Aether Affinity Test. Once I reach the academy, I won’t have to worry about these matters anymore.’
Although the nobles held tremendous influence throughout the kingdom, their authority inside the academy was limited, and they wouldn’t be able to cause him much trouble.
Not to mention Vivian was also there.
With her around, even the academy’s professors wouldn’t be able to do much to him, much less the nobles, whose influence inside the academy was even more limited.
While thinking about his next plans, William came out of the bathroom.
He changed into a fresh set of clothes and left his room after hearing Elena call everyone for breakfast.
When he came outside, he saw Karl, Elena, and Samuel sitting on a mat beside the small kitchen, with steaming hot food already served before them.
Other than curry, Elena was good at making almost everything else, so William could already smell the delicious aroma even before sitting down.
He sat beside Samuel and noticed that he looked slightly more energetic than before, though not by much.
William had already told Samuel not to talk about his training in front of their parents.
Although Karl and Elena already knew about it, as long as the two brothers didn’t openly discuss such matters in front of them, their parents would also tacitly avoid bringing them up.
Especially the matter of William’s recent change in personality.
Out of sight, out of mind.
As such, Samuel didn’t say anything about his progress in training or mention any problems he had encountered.
The Iron Pig meat was just as William had expected, it was incredibly delicious, and Elena once again praised him for buying something so valuable at such a cheap price.
Since Karl and Elena still needed to head to the fields, everyone quickly finished breakfast before leaving.
Once their parents were gone, William and Samuel cleaned the dishes together.
While doing so, William also asked Samuel about his recent progress.
The result was exactly what he had expected.
According to Samuel, he had been feeling slightly more energetic recently, but compared to children his own age, he was still far behind.
William simply told him to continue practicing and after answering a few of Samuel’s questions regarding his training, he returned to his room.
Sitting down on his bed, he took out a gleaming crimson crystal with a streak of golden color at its center from his storage earring.
"I hope that, besides strengthening my physique, I will also obtain one of the Titan Ape’s abilities."
