Chapter 1012: Father?

"I’m curious... Have you ever wanted to be my father, or did you only become one because our circumstances forced you into it?"

It was a question she had been dying to ask even before she came back to the Demon Realm. It was just that she never really expected that an opportunity would arise when he seemed completely honest.

Still, it took a bit longer than usual for him to answer the question. Was he thinking, or was he hesitating? She didn’t know, but she waited long enough to find out.

"I suppose, deep down, I’ve always wondered what it was like to care for someone other than myself. I’ve bedded many women, and had many children. Most of my children had died because of some circumstances, but the few that had lived, they had made me proud."

William glanced down at his hands. "But perhaps the feeling was never mutual. My children wanted power, and none of them truly desired my love. I suppose, after some time, I had stopped caring, and that’s when you came along. You were the first child of mine that not only didn’t have my direct bloodline, but was also someone who dearly loved me..."

Then he glanced over at her once more.

"Although I never planned on it, I had unfortunately begun treating you as my daughter. Hence, I had to send you away so you didn’t get hurt by your siblings. I don’t think forgiveness is what you seek, so all I will say is that I apologize for not being able to do more."

And with that, he placed his hand on the exit of the throne room and walked right out. He wanted to approach Rael, since he could vaguely feel his presence, but now that he was here, he could no longer feel Rael anywhere.

Like a ghost, he healed him, then vanished. William could only chuckle as he made his way through the horde of demons. None of them were even able to mutter a single insult, even though mere minutes ago, they had planned on killing him.

As he was now, he was simply way too powerful for them to even attempt to fight him. They knew that much, as their instincts were practically telling them to run. But they couldn’t. Their feet were rooted into the ground, and the ones who were able to move did their best to run away.

And for the first time ever, the Demon King didn’t punish the heretics. Instead, he calmly walked out of the palace, and before long, his figure vanished into the distance. Some demons tried to track him, but his presence was so vague, no one really could.

As for the man in question, he was already in a whole different galaxy altogether. Rael could obviously still feel his presence, and so he did a bit of tracking, until eventually, he spotted William simply settling down in some human village and looking for a job.

It almost looked like he was stepping down. Rael didn’t really believe it at first, but the proof was in the pudding. Speaking of pudding, he noticed that Lilith was just standing there in the throne room, not saying anything.

She wasn’t even moving. Odds were, she was way too shocked to do anything. Therefore, Rael went ahead and reappeared beside her, making his presence known.

"Did you overhear our conversation?" Lilith asked.

Rael shook his head. "Nope. I didn’t feel it was right to snoop, so I didn’t."

"Hmm... Good. It’s fine, also. I’m not mad at you anymore," she replied.

"You’re not?" Rael raised a brow. "I mean, I’m happy and all, but where’s this change in attitude coming from? Did you two talk it out?"

"Mhm. We did." Lilith nodded, a faint smile appearing on her face. "We should probably go back now. I still have something I wanted to do on the ship, so you can follow me around for a bit if you’d like."

Eh...

"Before that, there’s something I want to admit." Rael lowered his head. "You see, I bribed Melina into telling me what you were sulking about, and what you were thinking. Kind of like an informant. I’m sorry."

However, despite what he was expecting, Lilith wasn’t angry. Instead, her smile was even wider than before, which confused him greatly.

"I know." frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"You do...?"

Lilith chuckled. "The moment you messaged her about it, she told me. I was the one who suggested getting a new ship, after you mentioned other realities when you were chatting. They sound interesting... Dangerous, but interesting."

Before he could reply, she added:

"Also, with you watching our backs constantly, we don’t need to be afraid of death. Isn’t that convenient."

Rael rolled his eyes. "So you’re just using me then?"

"Yep. Get used to it, husband." Lilith turned on her heel, barely containing her smirk as she gestured toward the exit of the throne room. ƒreewebɳovel.com

"You know, you did mention wanting to finish the date, didn’t you? What do you say we finish it in the Demon Realm?"

He stared at her for a moment, then sighed. She really was such an odd woman, since reading her was nearly impossible.

But he did appreciate her giving him a second chance, so he went ahead and accepted it. He approached her, interlocking his fingers with hers as he carefully led her through the crowd of demons.

Naturally, they would’ve attacked her, since they saw her as someone weaker than the former Demon King. However, Rael was already aware of that, and so, for the first time since he had gotten his new powers, he didn’t hesitate to let a large chunk of them leak out a little.

And by no means were his powers a joke. Those who felt his mana were immediately tossed in a frenzy, their time slowing down as they suddenly relived their worst fears and nightmares.

Those who were slightly stronger felt their souls slowly being eradicated, making it impossible for them to even stare at Rael for too long.

For the minority of demons who were utterly weak, however, their existence was erased without anyone nearby even realizing.
