Mircea asked Ludek when he took a seat around the table again:
"Atlas isn’t hungry?" freeωebnovēl.c૦m
"He’s working on a new project, you know how he gets when he does."
Mircea’s eyes lit up and he asked excitedly:
"What project?"
"He’s figured out the technology to make a VR headset and he’s finishing the game that goes with it."
Mircea looked a Ludek with a bright smile and he smiled back. He knew they did the right thing by keeping Atlas even if he isn’t his mother. At least he’s paying them back for raising him even if they aren’t related.
Mircea asked:
"Have you seen the prototype of it or the game?"
Ludek shook his head.
"Atlas has been working on it privately instead of using the company. I think he wasn’t sure if it would work so he decided to use his paycheck from the company to do it. He said he only has to finish the game."
Mircea said:
"He should’ve told us we would’ve wired him money."
"He didn’t think about it you know how obsessed he gets when he works on a project."
Mircea nodded.
"I know but every time the company makes millions thanks to it."
Ludek smiled. Elwyn’s hand who was under the table tightened into a fist.
He thought that he would be able to get Atlas into trouble by telling his parents that he refused to help him with the presentation but he had to go and do what every other company failed to do.
If he was raised in this household he would’ve been just as good as Atlas, no he’s sure he would’ve been better. He looked at his parent’s teary-eyed and said:
"I asked for Atlas’ help this afternoon and he refused. He even insulted me."
Mircea frowned and asked
"What did he say?"
Elwyn said in a trembling voice:
"My assistant disappeared and I found out that Atlas had been using him. I told him that father said that he was mine now and that I need him and he asked why since I don’t do anything. When I asked him if he finished the presentation he said that he didn’t do it and he won’t because unlike me he works."
When tears ran down Elwyn’s face Ludek and Mircea felt heartbroken. They can’t understand how Atlas can be so cruel when he took Elwyn’s place. The only reason he has a job is because of them, not himself.
Mircea said discontentedly:
"Who does Atlas think he is to talk to you like that?"
He looked at his husband and said:
"We have to talk to him so he’ll understand that he’s lucky we’re letting him work at the company when he isn’t even part of the family."
Ludek looked down thinking then said:
"We need to wait until his new project is finished or he might abandon it and you know that no one at the company will be smart enough to finish it."
Mircea said angrily:
"Are you saying you’re going to let him act as he pleases and talk to our son this way?"
"He wants me to make him co-president but I told him that I wouldn’t so he said that he’s not going to do the job of the heir if he doesn’t have the title."
Elwyn asked weakly:
"Father, are you going to give him the title after you’ve already given him my life?"
Ludek grabbed his hand and said:
"Never! I only want him to finish the project then we’ll toss him out of the house for being such an ingrate but in the meantime, you all need to keep acting the way you did before because we need that technology."
Elwyn nodded with a smile and Ludek and Mircea smiled back. He was worried his parents would never get rid of him just because they raised him but they only want his technology.
When Elwyn finished eating he went to Atlas’ room. Atlas glanced at him then said:
"What’s up?"
Elwyn said with a smile:
"I just wanted to make sure you’ll come tomorrow to Jacob’s house for dinner to celebrate our engagement."
Atlas nodded and said:
"I will I want to speak to Damian."
Elwyn felt happy hearing that, since it seems like Atlas is rebelling he’s sure he’ll lose it and yell at him for putting an ultimatum on his parents.
He was already in a great mood now that he knows he’ll soon be gone but at that moment he was over the moon. He walked to the desk and showed Atlas the engagement ring.
"Look this is the ring Jacob gave me."
When Atlas looked up Elwyn looked at his reaction attentively just to see his anger and pain. Jacob had given the ring to Atlas but he took it back to give to him.
Atlas looked at him and asked with ridicule:
"Did you seriously accept the ring your fiance had previously given to someone else?"
Elwyn’s smile faltered and he asked:
"What are you talking about?"
He knows he isn’t speaking from his point of view.
Atlas leaned on his chair and said:
"If the person I loved gave me the same ring he gave to his ex I would feel worthless. Jacob didn’t even take the time to shop for a ring that represents you, he just took an old ring and gave it to you like you’re not worth the effort. It would make me think that the only reason he is with me is because of the company. It’s just my opinion but if you are happy to have a used ring then it’s fine."
Elwyn looked at the ring he used to love then at Atlas who was typing on his keyboard and turned around. Once he reached the door Atlas said:
"Jacob is a Cian and everyone knows that they have the priceless green emerald since it was his grandmother’s engagement ring. If I was you I would demand it from him to prove his love then at least you’ll know how he truly feels about you."
Elwyn didn’t turn around and left. He entered his room and sat on the bed looking at the ring. He thought that it would infuriate Atlas if Jacob took the ring back and gave it to him but he is right.
He doesn’t want it when it’s been used by Atlas. He grabbed his cell phone and made research on the Cian green emerald. When he saw the picture of it he looked at it with shiny eyes.
Since Jacob’s grandmother passed away it means that no one is wearing it. He looked at the price and was stunned to see that it was worth more than Nye Games. He’ll talk to Jacob about it tomorrow.
If he loves him he’ll give him that ring, he deserves better than a ring worn by Atlas before.
Atlas looked at the closed door with a malicious smile. They are taking all the fun out of dealing with them.
