Chapter 350: Master Of Regret

That was one of the many names he still had to see... his mind... wasn’t in the worst state after that. Well, it was in a horrible state already, he was trying to say that it had not gotten worse, well, not by much... it just strengthened the slowly filling hatred he had against Will’s.

Though it had been surprising to see that Ramius had died, after all, he was the Master of a Will, but if you thought about it, the monsters inside the war were probably stronger than what most people had seen in this world.

Aether sighed, slowly making his way through the many frequencies, he had no idea who do to next, after all there were so many, and since the first was one he knew, he had a feeling that the next would also be someone he knew, he hoped it wasn’t he really did, after all, if he just felt the sorrow of a random human it would hurt, but not as much as witnessing the story and hardship of someone he cared about.

Worse of all, he couldn’t guess, since they all looked the same in his eyes, even while using Eden, they were all the same. He just had to hope, really.

Choosing one of the bodies, Aether walked over to him, staring him in his eyes, well, rather, where they were supposed to be, the body stared back, yet this time, it was regret he was feeling, a lot of it.

’Alright, let’s see who you are.’

...

...

...

Life in Veyr was known for being one of the best among all of the main islands. Even after the third started to slowly submerge, making it fall way under even Stormfell. People envied the people in Veyr; the people in Stormfell considered them the posh boys of the world, and for good reason, since most really acted like that. But really, only because Veyr allowed it, heck, it enforced it.

Though behind all that wonderful life people see above, they don’t stop to look at the life they are living down on the lowest island of Veyr. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

Kael rested in the forest, watching as the leaves slowly fell on his face. He found it really relaxing for whatever reason... but as he rested... he then felt a wooden sword hit his forehead.

"Slacking on your training... again?" Kael staggered at his feet, looking at his master. "S-Sorry, sir, it won’t happen again."

The old man rolled his eyes. "You said that last time." Putting his sword down, he rested against one of the trees. "You know I’m getting old... I don’t think I have much time left... I don’t even think I would make it past these few days... I feel it, my body slowly dying..." He turned to Kael. "And yet here is my descendant, always slacking on the job."

He chuckled. "You know, Kael, I chose you because of your deep hatred for wills, and I always think something happens for a reason, but sometimes you really make me regret it."

Kael looked at the ground, clenching his fist. "I’m sorry... I really promise this time will be the last... though I did ask my mom to make your favourite dish... I can bring it to you in return for your forgiveness this time," He then nervously smiled, which made the old man laugh.

"You had this planned, didn’t you? Sure, I’ll bite, either way, I taught you most of what I knew."

Kael nodded, running from the forest and towards his house.

...

Reaching his home, Kael took off his shoes and stepped into the house. His mom was really strict with these kinds of things... a lot stricter since his father had died at the hands of a Will user... which had been the first thing that sparked his hatred for Will’s, more came, but that was the first step.

It’s why he really wanted to become the Master of a Weapon style, it just happened to be the rapier, the only one he had not ever had... though he can’t say he hadn’t been enjoying learning it, but only thanks to his master. He really was great, an amazing teacher, and a very strong human.

Though old, really old, that bastard was nearing one hundred... though he felt as if he still needed his guidance, and for some good time. He just... didn’t believe he had learned everything he needed... plus, he really wasn’t ready to bear the responsibility of becoming the Master of the Rapier, after all... he was only sixteen, he was far too young. He hoped that when the time came, and he died, he wouldn’t give the role of master to his disciple at this age, just like he doesn’t want to bear it, he wouldn’t want his descendant to hold it either.

Getting the dish his mother had prepared, Kael rushed back to the forest with a soft on his face even more as he approached his master. Who had fallen asleep by the bark of the tree. Putting the tray on the ground, he approached the man, chuckling, before flicking the old man’s forehead in payback...

But the old man didn’t respond. Kael’s eyes widened in confusion. ’This old man is really a heavy sleeper.’ But he wasn’t impressed. Kael shook his body...

And again, the old man didn’t stop.

Kael paused for a second, almost frozen, before he leaned in to hear his heartbeat.

...

Except there wasn’t any.

...

He had died...

...

...

...

He regretted wasting his time slacking off... when he could have trained more with him...

...

...

And that regret still drives him mad now, even in his early twenties... he had grown into a great swordsman, that his master would be proud of, but he hoped he could have shown him something to be proud of when he was alive. Even after being through so much, it was the only thing he still had heavily in his heart from the past.

Kael sighed, putting his sword back into his belt.

Waiting... after all. He knew he was coming for him.

And it didn’t take long for him to appear.

"You know I really don’t like your kind," he said, turning around to face the man. He was young, almost as young as he was when he became a master... and they seemed to share the same fate "Master of the Fire Will, Ramius."

Ra tilted his head. "Hate my kind, why is that... never mind, I really don’t care... I think you know what I’m here for."

Kael sighed? "To stop me from teaching the style of the rapier?"

Ramius nodded with a wicked smile before dashing forward, a sword made out of a howling flame appearing in his hand. Kael took out his rapier, letting the boy approach him, and as he tried to slash him with the blade, he ducked under it. Kicking his ankle and making him kneel, Kael thrusted his rapier into the boy’s arm, making him scream in pain.

"I must admit that technique I have never seen, it’s quite beautiful, a combination between Wills and weapons. But your skill with the blade is horrid; you should just stick to using your Will.

The boy gritted his teeth before trying to launch fire forward at him, only for Kade to stab his hand.

"You are inexperienced, you should have come a lot later... did you really not think I would have expected that?"

Kael shook his head in disappointment before raising his blade, prepared to finish the job. But before he could...

...

"Your master must really regret choosing you." Kael froze, giving the boy enough time to use his Will.

Kael let his blade fall to the ground as his hands caught on fire. Burning the completely.

And before he could recover, the boy had already left.

...

...

But the damage he had caused was permanent; he was unable to wield the blade... he had succeeded technically, not only was there not a activ Master of the Rapier, because he couldn’t use the blade, but his descendant would have to learn the style by himself, without his help.

...

He would be surprised if anyone actually came to this place.

...

And yet somebody did come... a boy he had not seen in Veyr before... one who had a weird feeling to him... If he remembered correctly, he wasn’t by the name of Aether. He was a great student... who had also struggled with Anger, just like he had done in a bad time of his path. But he overcame it, and somehow, started to slowly learn the style... but not with his help, but rather by risking his life in the battle, and it did work, but not fully, he still lacked something... and he really couldn’t figure it out.

And even worse... the boy was close to the same age he was when he became the Master of the Rapier... he had failed his younger self.

...

And after his student left to find the shards of the legendary rapier... he couldn’t help but...

Regret.

Regret not being able to teach him more, to help him.

...

And he took that regret to the moment he died in the tides.

...

He had lived a good life... full of hardship he overcame.

But one still clung to his grave.

His regret.
