Chapter 39: Overwhelming Might
After breakfast, Amon informed Kayla that he was heading to work.
However, the moment he walked out of the house, he took a single step forward and vanished.
Boom!
The next instant, he appeared beside Moon.
A faint smile tugged at Amon’s lips.
Close Yet So Far was truly amazing. He’d just tried something, and it had worked perfectly.
Rather than thinking of a place, he had thought of a person and immediately appeared beside Moon.
’With this, I just need to think of my wife or daughter, and I can appear right in front of them.’
The thought relieved him more than it should have.
Finally, Amon took the time to study his surroundings.
The battlefield before him was in complete ruin.
Massive trenches stretched across the earth. Hundreds of trees had been uprooted and scattered across the landscape like broken twigs. Deep claw marks carved through boulders and cliffs alike.
At the center of the destruction stood a colossal creature.
It was nearly twelve meters tall and over thirty meters long.
Its body resembled a fusion between a prehistoric raptor and a roc.
Black metallic scales covered its body, each one harder than steel and reflecting a cold crimson sheen. Jagged bone spikes protruded from its spine all the way to its tail.
Its hind legs were absurdly powerful, capable of crossing hundreds of meters in a single leap.
Most terrifying of all were the enormous feathered wings folded against its back.
Although it couldn’t truly fly due to its massive body, every flap generated hurricane-force winds that tore apart everything around it.
Its eyes burned with savage intelligence.
A single glance was enough to make ordinary hunters freeze in terror.
The beast opened its mouth.
ROOOOOAAAARRR!!!
The roar exploded through the forest.
The surrounding air trembled.
Shockwaves spread outward, flattening trees and sending countless fragments of stone hurtling into the sky.
Amon immediately sensed the pressure the beast was exuding.
B-rank.
No wonder Moon hadn’t been able to finish it.
Moon was still only D-rank.
Contending against such a creature on equal footing was already a miracle.
The beast suddenly vanished.
Boom!
The ground exploded beneath its feet.
Its enormous body transformed into a black blur.
Despite weighing several tons, it moved with terrifying speed.
The space where Moon had been standing exploded into fragments as the beast’s claws descended.
Moon narrowly evaded.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
The beast continued launching attack after attack.
Every strike shattered the landscape.
Moon’s figure flickered repeatedly as he used Spatial Teleportation to evade.
Even then, several tears had appeared on his robes.
Blood trickled down his arm.
Amon’s gaze darkened.
The creature had actually injured Moon.
"Don’t worry..."
A terrifying killing intent erupted from Amon’s body.
"I’m here now."
The beast immediately froze.
Its predatory instincts screamed.
Danger.
Extreme danger.
For the first time since the battle began, fear appeared in its crimson eyes.
Amon stepped forward.
The Winter Frost Blade appeared in his hand.
The sword trembled faintly.
It was excited.
Moon instinctively retreated hundreds of meters away.
The moment Amon drew that blade, even he felt danger.
’Abyssal Soul Requiem Sword Art.’
The fifth form of the Elegant Netherblade Sword Technique.
The world suddenly became silent.
A chilling cold spread through the surroundings.
The sunlight dimmed.
An ethereal yellow radiance slowly emerged around Amon’s body.
It was beautiful.
And horrifying.
The beast roared and exploded forward.
Its wings unfurled.
Hurricane-force winds swept across the battlefield.
Its scales glowed crimson.
Every ounce of power within its body erupted at once.
It knew.
If it didn’t kill this human now, it would die.
Boom!
The creature crossed hundreds of meters instantly.
Its claws descended.
The air itself screamed.
Amon calmly took a step forward.
Close Yet So Far activated.
Space folded.
The beast’s pupils contracted.
The human before it vanished.
Then appeared directly in front of its face.
Too close.
Far too close.
Swish.
The sword moved.
No grand explosion.
No dazzling spectacle.
Just a single slash.
For a brief moment, the world seemed to split apart.
A thin golden line stretched across the battlefield.
Mountains.
Trees.
Earth.
Sky.
Everything in its path was divided.
The beast froze.
Its body remained standing.
A confused look appeared in its eyes.
Then...
BOOOOOM!!!
Its chest exploded.
The gigantic body split apart from the center.
Blood erupted like a crimson waterfall.
Fragments of scales rained from the sky.
The beast collapsed.
The impact shook the entire dungeon.
Amon appeared beside the corpse.
The enormous creature twitched several times before dissolving into countless particles of white light.
Silence returned to the battlefield.
The disparity between Moon and Amon was obvious.
Despite fighting the creature for so long, Moon hadn’t been able to gain any real advantage.
Yet Amon had killed it with a single strike.
The difference between them had become frighteningly large.
Amon took another light step forward and appeared in front of the beast’s corpse as it dissolved into drifting traces of white light.
He retrieved the dungeon core, and a faint smile played on his lips.
After storing it in the system, he took another step and appeared before Moon.
[Ding! Congratulations! You have levelled up!]

[Ding! Congratulations! You have levelled up!]
Amon pulled up the system and glanced at both his and Moon’s stats, surprised that he’d levelled up three times.

After clearing so many dungeons, Moon’s strength had increased drastically.
However, just by killing the boss monster, Amon’s strength had surpassed him.
For every five levels, one could increase in rank. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
Amon was now level 21, so naturally, he had become a C-rank warrior.
Thinking about it, Amon realized that by the end of today, with the EXP boost, he could likely become an S-rank hunter.
S-rank!
This was a level Amon hadn’t even dared to think about before.
They were monsters unlike anything he had ever encountered.
In his predecessor’s memories, the ancestors of their family had once stood at S-rank.
His father had merely been A-rank.
To think that Amon was now so close to surpassing him.
A trace of melancholy surfaced in Amon’s heart.
Thinking about his daughter, who had come into this world and activated the system, he felt a warmth spread through him.
Clenching his fist, his heart filled with resolve.
’With the strength I’ve gained, I’ll make sure no harm comes to you.’
Amon finally shifted his attention away from the system and turned toward Moon, his earlier resolve settling into an eerie calm.
"There should still be a few C-rank dungeons left within the city. Let’s go and clear them. You also need to step into C-rank and possibly B-rank."
Amon spoke quietly.
C-rank was possible, and so was B-rank, but stepping into A-rank still seemed too far for Moon for now.
Perhaps by tomorrow he’d be able to level up to that extent.
However, that would require moving into other cities.
High-rank dungeons at C-rank and above rarely appeared. After clearing them, a city would usually remain peaceful for quite some time.
’I thought I’d have to let go of the butcher’s identity...’
Amon smiled wryly as a mask appeared in his grasp.
The Butcher’s Mask.
He placed it over his face and immediately felt a change in his aura.
His emotions stirred with bloodlust. An immense urge to kill surged through him.
There was always something about the Butcher’s Mask that made him want to protect his family and destroy everything that could threaten them.
"Moon, let’s go."
Amon lightly placed a hand on Moon’s shoulder.
Space rippled.
Close Yet So Far activated instantly.
The two vanished without a trace.
Moments later, the dungeon collapsed behind them.
