Chapter 37: Planned?

Amon quickly shook his head.

If he directly handed it to her, she might become overly worried about his safety. That would force him to explain the fact that he was the Butcher all along and that he’d been keeping it a secret from her.

There were a lot of complications that came with revealing it.

Amon decided he would silently use it on her when they were together.

For now, the tension between them remained high. Armed forces personnel still surrounded the house, scanning for traces and evidence.

Suddenly, a buzz erupted from Joy’s phone.

Amon watched silently, overhearing the conversation.

Joy’s face went through a series of changes before a look of shock and surprise flickered across her features.

"Someone’s clearing dungeons at an alarming rate?" she muttered.

"Alright. I’ll begin heading there. Okay."

The line soon went dead.

"Everyone, wrap things up here. We have another emergency," Joy said sternly to the crowd.

Amon watched them hasten their movements and understood that Moon had likely begun the next phase of the cleansing.

Soon, the armed forces vans sped off, and their surroundings returned to their previous calm and silence.

Amon calmly walked to the door and closed it.

A few neighbors cast curious glances in their direction, but Amon couldn’t be bothered to deal with them.

"I’ll prepare something for you to eat."

He noticed that Kayla was still shaken by the events that had just transpired, so without hesitation, he offered to help her out.

Kayla smiled weakly.

"Thanks hun."

Amon returned the smile before heading toward the kitchen.

Ciara was already asleep in her room.

Seeing that tiny figure sleeping peacefully earlier had eased some of the tension lodged in his chest.

At least she was safe.

For now.

Amon opened the refrigerator and began taking out ingredients.

Nothing fancy.

Just something warm and comforting.

After what had happened today, neither of them had much of an appetite anyway.

While cutting vegetables, part of his attention drifted toward Moon.

The shared perception link remained active.

Through it, he could vaguely observe Moon’s actions.

At that moment, Moon stood before a recently opened D-Rank dungeon.

The area was already surrounded by armed forces vehicles.

Dozens of awakeners had gathered.

Many appeared nervous.

The dungeon had erupted unexpectedly, and several teams had already failed to suppress the creatures emerging from it.

Then Moon moved.

A single step.

A flash of silver.

The battlefield instantly fell silent.

Amon watched several monsters collapse before the surrounding awakeners even realized what had happened.

The entire dungeon entrance went quiet.

Moon didn’t stop.

He simply entered.

Amon smiled faintly.

Good.

The plan was proceeding smoothly.

The stronger Moon became, the faster he could begin targeting larger dungeons.

Eventually...

Even the troublesome B-Rank dungeon would fall.

The sizzling sound of food pulled Amon back to reality.

A few minutes later, he finished preparing a simple meal.

Nothing extravagant.

Just enough to help Kayla settle down.

When he returned to the dining room, Kayla was sitting quietly.

Her gaze seemed distant.

Lost in thought.

Amon placed the food in front of her.

"Eat."

Kayla blinked before giving a small nod.

"Thank you."

The two ate in silence for a while.

Eventually, Kayla spoke.

"Do you think they’ll come back?"

Amon looked up.

"The criminals?"

Kayla nodded.

A trace of fear lingered within her eyes.

"I know the armed forces said everything is under control, but..."

She lowered her gaze.

"What if they return?"

Amon’s expression softened.

Without hesitation, he reached across the table and held her hand.

"They won’t."

His voice was calm, steady, and filled with certainty.

For some reason, hearing those simple words eased her anxiety.

Kayla squeezed his hand.

"You sound very confident."

Amon smiled.

"If they come back..."

His eyes briefly narrowed.

"...then they’ll regret it."

Kayla laughed softly.

The tension in the room eased considerably.

Amon changed the subject, and the two continued talking while finishing dinner.

Afterward, Kayla headed to the room to check on Ciara.

The moment she disappeared from view, Amon’s expression changed.

His thoughts immediately moved toward the Bloodline Evolution Crystal.

Now was the perfect opportunity.

He stood up and quietly followed her into the room.

The room remained dimly lit.

Ciara slept peacefully in her crib.

Kayla sat beside her.

Watching over their daughter.

A smile unconsciously appeared on her face.

Amon paused near the doorway. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

Then slowly approached.

"She’s really adorable."

Kayla chuckled.

"Of course she is."

Amon sat beside her.

For several moments, neither spoke.

They simply watched Ciara sleep.

Then Amon silently summoned the crystal inside his system space.

Not physically.

Only enough for the system to recognize his intention.

’Use Bloodline Evolution Crystal on Kayla.’

[Ding.]

[Target Confirmed.]

[Commencing Evolution.]

[Evolution Failed. Target’s bloodline is of a higher grade than the crystal.]

[Please designate a different target.]

Amon froze.

For a moment, he thought he had heard incorrectly.

Higher grade?

An A-Rank Bloodline Evolution Crystal was already an extraordinarily precious treasure.

Yet the system was saying Kayla’s bloodline exceeded it?

His eyes slowly moved toward her.

Kayla remained completely oblivious.

She was still gently stroking Ciara’s tiny hand.

A warm smile rested on her face.

Nothing about her appeared unusual.

Nothing at all.

Yet the system had never made mistakes before.

Amon’s thoughts immediately began racing.

’System.’

He called inwardly.

’What bloodline does she possess?’

The system remained silent, the screen staring back at him unblinkingly.

The system didn’t possess intelligence, so it couldn’t answer Amon.

Amon fell silent.

His eyes drifted toward Ciara.

Then toward Kayla.

A sudden thought emerged.

If Kayla possessed an extraordinary bloodline...

Then what about Ciara?

His heartbeat quickened slightly.

A child inherited bloodlines from both parents.

If Kayla’s bloodline was truly that powerful...

Then perhaps the reason Ciara had attracted so much attention wasn’t solely because of him.

The possibility sent a chill down his spine.

Amon quickly suppressed the thought.

There wasn’t enough information yet.

Speculation was useless.

For now, all he knew was that his wife was hiding a secret she likely wasn’t even aware existed.

Amon slowly withdrew the crystal.

His original plan had failed.

But perhaps that wasn’t a bad thing.

After all...

He now had a much more important question.

Just who exactly was Kayla?

Thinking back on it, they had met completely by accident.

Back when he still worked delivery jobs, he had nearly hit her.

After a quick apology, she had unexpectedly offered him a date if he was truly interested in giving her a proper apology.

Startled by her boldness, Amon had been intrigued.

It could almost be considered love at first sight.

Kayla was more charming than any woman he had ever met, and unconsciously, he found himself falling for her almost instantly.

He recalled trying to impress her during their first date.

However, she’d simply told him he didn’t need to try so hard.

If he wanted to impress her, he should take her on a second date.

What began as a date born from an apology quickly turned into multiple dates.

Those dates became a relationship.

That relationship became marriage.

And two years later, they welcomed Ciara into the world.

’If everything was planned from the start...’

Amon stared quietly at Kayla’s profile.

’...what was the reason she approached me in the first place?’
