Chapter 11: Time Travel
"Hi... mister..." the little girl waved her hand, her face seeming slightly pale from exhaustion.
"My name is Mira, and my awakened ability is time control. I can give you the second chance you need, however, I require a favor from you."
Amon’s thoughts were disoriented, but he quickly regained his bearing, his gaze snapping toward the little girl.
He paused slightly, hesitating on whether to believe her or not. frёewebnoѵēl.com
Ultimately, he decided to do so. After all, if she could appear here, it only meant one thing. She was far from ordinary.
"Why do you want to help me?" Amon couldn’t help asking.
The little girl lingered for a few seconds before speaking. "Because I admire you. I can sense your will to protect, and I can tell this would be the right thing to do."
Amon fell silent.
"What do you need me to do?" he questioned once again, referring to the favor she mentioned.
The little girl paused, then spoke. "I want you to rescue my big sister."
Seeing that Amon was still staring at her, waiting for her to continue, the little girl spoke again with a wronged expression.
"A few years ago, my sister began investigating the source of the dungeon corruption in this world...
"She occasionally discussed her plans with me, and the last thing she told me was that she was going to explore an SSS-rank dungeon. It’s almost similar to a completely different world based on how sister described it. Since then, I haven’t heard from her. Please... please help me find my sister..." the little girl sobbed as she pleaded in a soft, childish tone.
Amon felt a touch of warmth in his chest.
He raised a hand, but it paused mid-air.
Then, he lowered it onto the girl’s head.
Instantly, the little girl felt as though the weight pressing down on her heart had vanished completely.
That warm hand that seemed capable of holding up the skies brought her the same sense of comfort she felt whenever her big sister was around.
A few seconds later, she began bawling her eyes out like the little kid that she was.
She had been trying different timelines, different scenarios, however they all failed.
Only in this timeline, when she encountered this mysterious man whom she couldn’t read, did she understand that this might be her only chance of survival.
As such, she knew she couldn’t let go of him.
She had purposefully allowed him to die, knowing fully well that with the power of time under her control, life and death were just trivial things.
However, planning all these things wasn’t easy for a little girl like her.
Finally seeing someone she could cry to, the girl’s emotions broke loose like a dam.
She finally composed herself after a few minutes...
"Sorry..." she uttered with a flushed face.
"It’s alright." Amon brought a thumb up to gently wipe the girl’s eyes.
She smiled, a cute smile that revealed her dimples.
"I’ll send you back in time to a few hours before the incident. That’s only how far back I can turn the hands of time."
The little girl spoke in an apologetic tone filled with sadness.
Clearly, if she could turn back time further, bringing back her sister and stopping her from entering the SSS-rank dungeon wouldn’t have been an issue at all.
Amon nodded.
He was also silently curious about how this would work.
The little girl stretched out her slender, delicate hand, and a soft silver glow emerged at her fingertips.
It wrapped around Amon like a bubble, and subconsciously, his eyes fell shut.
A few hushed whispers echoed silently in his mind.
For an unknown amount of time, he felt as though he was drowning, when suddenly— freewebnσvel.cøm
Snap. Snap. Snap.
"Babe..."
"Sir Amon?"
Two voices dragged his consciousness forward.
Amon glanced around in confusion.
"She was asking if she could examine your body..."
"Examine my... body?"
"Sorry if it seems improper, it’s part of the procedures we have to take to ensure you aren’t the notorious villain."
Joy wasn’t aware that it wasn’t because of her words that Amon was still in a state of disorientation.
Rather...
’She really did it... she sent me back in time?’ Amon drew in a sharp breath.
How was that possible?
How was it possible for one to manipulate time to such an extent?
Although the girl had said she would send him back in time, Amon hadn’t completely believed her.
But now... here he was... back in time...
At the same time, he thought back to the Fate sign-in system, and his transmigration.
Was it orchestrated by someone as well?
Amon’s heart grew restless at the thought.
"Sir Amon?" Joy called out once more, her suspicion deepening.
Whenever she mentioned examining Amon’s body, he fell into a momentary daze.
"Do you perhaps... have something to hide?"
An irritated look appeared in Amon’s eyes.
For a brief instant, Joy felt as though she had been submerged in an endless abyss.
Amon quickly hid his bloodlust.
He would ponder the details about the system and time travel later on.
For now, noticing his wife’s suspicious look, he knew he had to clear the misunderstanding.
With that, he removed his shirt, revealing a perfectly sculpted body.
There were no scars on his body. It was smooth, slightly tender, and trimmed with little to no fat.
Similar to the previous timeline, Joy was dazed, but she quickly recovered herself.
Things proceeded as in the previous timeline.
Amon and his wife escorted Joy and the other officers to the car.
The same words were exchanged...
The same buzz, and microshift in Joy’s expression.
Similarly, the group hurriedly left.
Amon escorted his wife back inside, and she rushed to check up on their daughter, leaving him alone.
Amon fell silent.
Everything pointed to the fact that this was the same timeline as before.
A ruthless light flashed through his eyes.
Previously, the butcher had failed to protect his family due to a sneak attack, but that wouldn’t be the case this time around.
Just as Amon had this thought, the system’s chime echoed.
[Do you wish to sign in for today? Or assign the fate point to a stat?]
Amon’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
He had signed in... when he was heading to the wa—
His thoughts paused at this point.
Yes, he had signed in, but it was in the previous timeline.
Things were bound to be different this time.
’Sign in...’
A flash of light... and Amon’s reward was displayed.
