Chapter 36: Summoned

Azriel

I had felt all his pain, all his frantic, spiraling emotions the exact second he fell directly into my arms while desperately clutching at his stomach, and maybe it was entirely because of the overwhelming pull of the mate bond, but for the first time in literal thousands of years, I felt a cold, paralyzing wave of fear physically shake my entire body.

"Malachi, summon Anomas and Thamiel to my quarters right away!" I ordered, my voice cutting through the courtyard’s heavy silence, rising slightly in authority as I effortlessly swept Seraphel up into my arms. freeweɓnøvel.com

Seraphel let out a low, agonizing groan, his fingers tightening in a death grip around my forearm as I held him securely against my bare chest. He was whimpering softly, his jaw clenched so hard his teeth gritted together, and I could already feel the temperature of his skin turning completely cold against my own.

Was it really just the Letiti refusing to leave his system? Or had something far more insidious been covertly added to that illusion tea without me figuring it out?

If I couldn’t figure out the root of the poison immediately, it either meant the dosage was significantly stronger than I had initially imagined, or maybe we were dealing with something else entirely different.

"Will the baby... will the baby be fine?" Seraphel asked weakly as I stepped directly through a dark portal, his eyes squeezed tightly shut as he let out another heavy grunt of pure pain.

I looked down at him, shaking my head slightly to calm his spiraling mind. "The baby will be perfectly fine," I assured him, keeping my voice steady. "I told you before that I already placed a powerful protective ward around the child, but you are currently the one in immediate danger, and if anything fatal happens to you, it automatically means that the baby would also be in danger."

He didn’t reply, going right back to grunting in agony as the violent contractions racked his body, and then he completely blacked out in my arms.

The portal immediately opened up right into the center of my personal chamber, and without wasting a single second, I rushed toward the large bed and placed his pale figure onto it. It was incredibly strange, because in all my centuries of existence, I had absolutely never brought a single one of my concubines into this room; I always took them to the pleasure room, which was entirely my domain, yet I had carried Seraphel straight into my private sanctuary without even batting an eye.

The grand chamber was cast in heavy, ethereal shadows, bathed in deep crimson light that fit the dark majesty of my status.

It was an exception I would never dream of making for anyone else.

Was it because I actually cared for the human? Or was it simply because of the dark mark that had now forcefully bonded our souls together?

"You summoned for us, Azriel," Anomas announced as he quietly appeared behind me, stepping out of an opening golden portal that lit up the dark room. "I had actually wanted to come to you much earlier today because I had a strange vision last night," he revealed.

I turned my head toward him, my eyebrows knitting together as I gave him a sharp, questioning look. "If you had a vision last night, Anomas, you should have come to me first and told me what the hell is happening to my vessel!"

"Let me check the boy first before you two start arguing like children," Thamiel interrupted calmly as he stepped out of the shadows right beside Malachi.

He held a small, intricate wooden box in his hand, its surface carved with ancient medical runes.

All attention in the room instantly turned toward Thamiel as he sat down on the edge of the mattress beside Seraphel, who wouldn’t stop trembling and writhing against the sheets in his unconscious state. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

"I have to say, Azriel, I never expected that you would actually bring anyone into your private room in thousands of years!" Thamiel mused, a small smirk playing on his lips.

I frowned deeply, crossing my arms over my chest. "It was the only place in this damn palace that actually felt secure for now. Who knows what the hell those vipers might try to do to him next?"

Thamiel let out a light chuckle but quickly turned his full attention back toward Seraphel, beginning to examine his pulse, while I faced my commander.

"Malachi," I called out.

He immediately walked right in front of me and lowered his head in absolute respect. "I need you to investigate that concubine thoroughly. Cut his limbs off one by one if you absolutely must, and find out exactly where he managed to obtain the Letiti from. And also," I paused for a brief moment, my eyes narrowing. "Investigate every single servant that was assigned to Seraphel’s pavilion. Any connection close to him must be questioned ruthlessly. Do whatever you have to do, use the memory reader if you have to—until you find out the absolute truth. Find the bastard who hurt him.’’

"Yes, Your Highness," Malachi responded sharply, and then he completely disappeared from the room like a wisp of black smoke.

Once he was out of the chamber, I turned my attention right back onto Anomas. "Now, is there anything you want to tell me, Anomas? What exactly was the vision that you had?"

Anomas sat down on the red velvet chair in the corner of my room, crossing his legs slowly before snapping his fingers to make an elegant feather fan appear in his hand. He took a deep, heavy sigh and closed his eyes. "The vision was entirely in fragments, but what I saw was the human locked inside a cage, lying on a bed with a strange flower resting on his chest. I don’t know what kind of flower it was, but he held it tightly against his chest like a lifeline."
