Chapter 69: Chapter 69

Kyra’s POV

"...be my partner in bed again."

The words hit me like a silver bullet to the chest. My knees nearly buckled as Sylvia howled in agony within my mind. "They had a past? They’re disgusting!"

I only heard those words, but I felt as if my world crumbled and began to collapse.

Kieran was here. In Amanda’s room. My mate, my chosen partner, conspiring with that venomous she-wolf.

"What made you think you could leash an Alpha like me?" Kieran’s voice dripped with icy disdain. "You forget your place, Amanda. I am Kieran Carver, future Alpha of Raven Shadow Pack. Your tricks don’t work on me."

"Come on, Kieran. You know that I’m your only ally in this house. Once Kyra finds out what you have been planning all along... she will leave you."

My forehead creased. He’s planning something?

I quickly hid myself and pressed against the wall, my heart pounding like a war drum. Kieran’s familiar cedar-musk scent now carried the bitter tang of betrayal.

I pressed my lips together, restraining myself from attacking the two people inside who had wicked plans from the very beginning.

Kieran... I trusted you.

"One more word, bitch!" Kieran growled, his Alpha power vibrating through the room, "and I’ll rip out your throat with my teeth. Test me."

Amanda laughed. "Why are you being like this just because of that woman, Kieran? Did you really fall for her? Are you insane? She’s just a plain she-wolf while I can give you everything. I can withstand your fetishes! I can satisfy you. Why protect her? She’s just some used-up Luna while I—"

A sickening thud. Amanda gasped. The scent of fear filled the air.

"Kyra is worth a thousand of you. You think you’re clean and better than her? Do you know why I liked her? That’s because she’s not like you. Listen here, Amanda. I won’t come back to you." Kieran said coldly. "You’re only alive because I allow it."

My chest ached. Sylvia whined pitifully. "Why does he defend us while plotting against our pack?"

I heard Amanda coughing, and I also heard footsteps coming. I wanted to run but I couldn’t. My legs were trembling, both from fear, pain, and disappointment. Why did I even trust him?

"Tell her then," Amanda goaded. "Reveal how you bankrupted her father’s pack. How you’re stealing their ancestral lands. Will she still love you knowing you’re the reason her father is dying?"

I couldn’t hear Kieran’s voice, and the truth crashed over me like a tidal wave. So, everything was all because of their plan? This is why my dad warned me. This is why he was so angry when he caught me and Kieran kissing. This is why he begged me to run away until he cried in my arms. frёewebnoѵēl.com

My father’s terror. The fading scent of his wolf. All Kieran’s doing.

It wasn’t only because of Amanda. Kieran was involved, and this was beyond painful. I trusted another traitor. I let him into my life, gave him my heart, my body, my love. How could I be so stupid?

"You need me, Kieran," Amanda purred. "Admit it."

I stumbled back. Sylvia’s mournful howl echoed in my skull as I fled—my human heart and wolf soul bleeding together.

My fingers dug into my palms as I forced my trembling body into stillness. Just as I turned to flee, the door creaked open, releasing Kieran’s cedar-musk scent into the hallway. His blue eyes locked onto mine.

I flinched, scared, but I wouldn’t let him see my fears. His sharp eyes immediately softened, and worry flickered in them as he realized I had heard everything.

"Kyra..." His voice cracked, the deep timbre that usually soothed my wolf now grating on my nerves. freēwebnovel.com

I forced a bitter smile as tears pooled in the corners of my eyes. "You surprised me."

He shook his head and tried to touch me, but I took a step back, looking at him with disgust.

"Kyra, listen to me. I can explain."

I laughed sarcastically and wiped the tears from my cheeks. I lifted my chin and looked at him with nothing but anger and disgust.

"You don’t need to explain. I already heard everything. You disgust me."

He reached for me, but I recoiled.

A harsh laugh escaped my throat. "Oh, I heard everything." My voice dropped to a dangerous purr. "Every. Damning. Word."

When I turned to leave, his arms closed around me—that familiar embrace now a cage. His scent overwhelmed me. I struggled in protest, even as my body remembered his touch.

"Let me go!" I thrashed, my wolf strength making him stagger. "You lost the right to touch me the moment you betrayed my pack!"

His grip tightened. "If I let go, you’ll run," he rasped, his breath hot against my neck.

Tears burned—not from sadness, but rage. "Damn right I will!" My claws raked down his arms, drawing blood. "Did you enjoy it? Watching me fall for you while you plotted with that she-wolf?"

He flinched but didn’t release me. "I love you," he whispered, his voice raw with a truth that made Sylvia whimper.

"LIAR!" The word erupted in a half-human, half-wolf snarl. The hallway lights flickered as my power surged.

"THAT’S BULLSHIT!" I screamed and pushed him. It was hard, but I succeeded.

He looked at me, his eyes pleading. I wiped my tears again and met his gaze. "You love me? That’s just part of the lies you created for your evil plans."

"No, Kyra!" He tried to touch me again, but I took another step back. "Please, listen to me. I love you. I really do. I admit I was just planning to use you to torment your father, but I fell in love with you. For real."

I shook my head painfully. "If you really loved me, you wouldn’t hurt me like this, Kieran."

I saw tears in his eyes, but I didn’t know if I could believe that anymore. He could easily fake his words, fake his emotions.

"But that’s the truth..." he said slowly, as if he had lost his strength.

I took another step back and felt the railing of the stairs behind me. Fear crossed Kieran’s face when he saw it.

I laughed sarcastically. "Don’t worry. I won’t kill myself for a fake love."

"Kyra... babe..."

"You know how my past broke me into pieces, Kieran. You know how much I suffered, but you managed to cast away my fears when you showed me you cared. I trusted you, only to find out everything was part of your plan. Was it fun seeing me get fooled?"

He shook his head. "I didn’t fool you..."

"You did. You fooled me real good."

His knees hit the marble with a crack that echoed through the house.

"Please," he begged, tears streaking down his face. "Give me a chance to explain."

My fingers found the promise ring—the stupid, beautiful ring he’d given me under the full moon. Sylvia howled in grief as I ripped it off, the broken bond searing like silver.

Along with our beautiful memories, the pain, and my love for him, I threw the ring at his chest, hatred burning in my eyes.

"The show’s over, Alpha," I hissed, flinging the ring at his chest. It clattered to the floor between us—a tiny, shining grave for our love.
