Chapter 64: Chapter 64
Kyra’s POV
My claws nearly extended as I dragged Kieran out of my father’s room after he brought a doctor in to put my dad to sleep.
My wolf, Sylvia, snarled in my mind. "Something’s wrong. He looked ready to rip Kieran’s throat out."
"What the hell was that, Kieran?" I demanded, my voice low and dangerous. "Did you see his eyes? That wasn’t just anger. He was trying so hard to reach you, as if he’d kill you if he did." My nails dug into his arm. "Tell me why."
Kieran’s jaw clenched, his golden eyes flashing with that cold ruthlessness I remembered from before we became mates. The scent of cedar and musk grew stronger around us—his defensive response.
I felt so irritated that he was just looking at me and not giving me answers.
"Kieran!"
"Kyra," he answered calmly.
My forehead immediately creased. "What?"
He clenched his jaw again while his eyes sharpened.
"He’s furious because you’re here. As his daughter and the former Luna of another pack, your presence means he’s failed—to protect you from seeing him weak."
I recoiled.
Kieran continued, "I told you he didn’t want you to know about his condition. He’s furious with me for bringing you here."
I pressed my lips together as I remembered him telling me this. He said he had to lie to me because my dad didn’t want me to worry about him.
I palmed my forehead as I slowly calmed down.
Kieran’s hands gripped my shoulders, his touch firm but gentle. The way an Alpha handles his mate—dominant yet protective. I felt comfortable. "I swore I wouldn’t lie to you again, little wolf. Your father made me promise not to tell you about his condition. He didn’t want his precious daughter to see him like this."
Exhaustion suddenly hit me like a wave, my pregnancy making my emotions unpredictable. Sylvia nudged at my consciousness. "Rest. For the pup."
I squeezed my eyes shut and that’s when I felt the exhaustion. Kieran sensed it immediately.
His arms wrapped around me in that perfect way that made me feel safe, gentle enough not to frighten my unborn child. "You need rest, Kyra," he murmured against my hair.
"I can’t," I protested weakly. "I want to be there when my father wakes up again."
Kieran’s lips brushed my forehead in that tender way that always made my knees weak. "I’ll wake you the moment he wakes up. I promise."
When I still hesitated, he surprised me with a quick, claiming kiss. I felt a sudden electricity all over my body.
I looked up at him and he looked down at me. Right! He’s my mate so it’s natural for him to worry.
"You’re carrying a pup," he reminded me softly, one large hand splaying across my belly. "You need to rest."
Sylvia practically purred at his touch.
I finally relented, and in one smooth motion, Kieran lifted me bridal-style. The effortless strength of him carrying me never failed to make my heart race.
My father had houses in a few countries and I still remembered him bringing me to this house. He liked to travel a lot, so he bought houses in every country where he wished to stay for a long time.
When Kieran laid me on the bed, I caught his wrist. "You need rest too," I insisted.
Kieran shook his head, tucking the blankets around me with surprising tenderness for such a ruthless Alpha. "I’ll keep watch over your father. And an Alpha’s duty to his pack never ends, little wolf."
He held my chin and gently pressed his lips on mine. I immediately wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him back. His lips met mine in one last, sweet kiss that tasted of promises and apples.
I smiled when our lips parted. "Thank you, and I’m sorry for lashing out at you."
He shook his head and tucked my hair behind my ear. His eyes were intently watching me.
"I understand what you’re feeling, Kyra. Get some rest now. I’ll wake you up later."
I nodded as a yawn escaped me. "Okay. But if you need to rest, your place is beside your mate."
"I will, little wolf," he promised, brushing his lips against mine. "Sleep now. I love you."
His words sent shivers through me. I kissed him softly. "I love you too, my Alpha."
This is real. I have fallen for him, and I hope he will be my last.
Sylvia, my wolf, sighed contentedly in my mind. "Our mate is true. Not like Nathan." free𝑤ebnovel.com
But doubt lingered—if Kieran ever betrayed me like Nathan had, I wasn’t sure my heart could survive it.

Kieran’s POV
I watched the old Alpha with cold satisfaction, my wolf Alaric growling low in my mind. Weak. Pathetic. Just as he deserves.
Alpha Darian looked every bit the broken pack leader—his once-powerful frame now withered, his scent dulled by sickness. Exactly what I wanted. He needed to suffer, to watch helplessly as I took everything from him—his pack, his wealth, even his precious daughter.
My plan had been simple: use Kyra as revenge. But somewhere along the way, the mate bond had become real. Now I wanted to keep her—not at the cost of abandoning my vengeance.
Alpha Darian would pay for what he did to my mother. He would fall completely, and Kyra would be collateral damage. However, I would keep her as my mate out of this. I would punish her father without her realizing it, because I knew that if she learned about all my plans, she would leave me.
I sat on the single couch, still looking at the sleeping old wolf on the bed. He looked very old, sad and miserable, and I enjoyed tormenting him while he could do nothing. He hadn’t had a stroke; I had Amanda secretly give him a slow-acting poison that made both him and his wolf grow frail and fade away over time. Now I could easily push him to the pit of hell where he belonged.
I took a slow sip of whiskey, letting the burn mirror the fire of my hatred. Hours passed before the old wolf stirred, his milky eyes widening in fear—not for himself, but for Kyra.
"Hmm! Argh!" He kept grunting and saying words I couldn’t understand. I bet he was cursing me.
"Your daughter?" I asked coldly, rising to loom over his bed. "Don’t worry, Alpha." The title dripped with mockery. "I’ll cherish my daughter better than you ever did yours. She is safe with me. I will love her for the rest of my life."
Rage crossed his eyes. I saw his determination to save his daughter, but Kyra didn’t need to be saved. She was safe with me because I truly loved her. It’s just that... she happened to be the daughter of the person I hated the most.
"I will marry her, Alpha Darian. I will never leave her alone and pained, just like you did. I will never abandon her. I will never hurt her, just like you did. She’s definitely safe with me," I added.
"Argh!" He grunted angrily, his weak hands barely catching the sleeve of my shirt. I smirked, letting my Alpha dominance roll over him in waves.
I pushed his hand away and tilted my head a little, wanting to see more of his fear.
"Argh!"
"You’ll live to see our mating ceremony," I promised darkly. "You’ll watch me claim your daughter in front of the entire pack and inherit your pack as mine. And you should watch how I take everything that belongs to you. They all belong to me now, and that will torment you more, right?"
"You shouldn’t die yet because you still have to see your grandchildren from your daughter, as she will be the mother of my pups."
Tears tracked through his wrinkles. Good. Let him feel even a fraction of the pain he’d caused my mother.
Alaric howled in triumph as I leaned closer, my voice dropping to a lethal whisper. "You created a monster, old wolf. Now you’ll reap what you sowed."
