Chapter 29: Chapter 29
Kyra’s POV
I looked at Kieran again. He moved closer to me, and I felt goosebumps when he brushed his nose against my cheek as he whispered, "Your pup bump will show soon. Relax, little wolf. I’ll handle this." His Alpha tone sent an involuntary shiver down my spine.
I swallowed hard and pressed my lips together. When I looked at Nathan again, his eyes were sharp. He grabbed a drink and downed it in one gulp before fixing me with cold, angry eyes that locked onto the slight swell of my stomach. I immediately averted my gaze, and Sophia, who seemed so surprised, looked at Kieran.
"You mean... you two really are a couple? It’s... yours, I suppose," Sophia chuckled, obviously nervous.
Kieran stood silently beside me, his possessive grip on my waist. I watched as Nathan turned his back without a word and walked away. Sophia immediately followed him.
"Why did you do that?" I hissed at Kieran the moment we were alone.
He studied me with those blue-flecked eyes, swirling his drink. "Would you rather have them discover your pregnancy when your belly swells? Or worse—have Sophia slip wolfsbane into your champagne?" freēwebnovel.com
"Still!" I growled at him. "You should’ve discussed your plans with me first. How could you decide on your own?"
"You don’t want to talk to me."
"What?" My forehead creased.
He just stared at me before grabbing a drink and downing it straight. I took a deep sigh and shook my head.
"I’ll just go to the restroom."
"I’ll go with you—" freēwebnovel.com
"I can go alone, Kieran."
He stared at my face before he sighed and nodded. I turned my back on him and started walking away. I didn’t like what he did. Although he had a good reason, he crossed the line again. If I had to choose, I’d deny what he said immediately in front of Nathan, but I knew if I did that, I’d look pathetic in front of them.
I was about to enter the restroom to retouch when someone grabbed me by the wrist and dragged me into an empty room. I gasped as I caught the familiar minty scent of the man who dragged me. I heard the click before he pushed my back against the closed door, keeping me in place.
"What the fuck did you do, Kyra?" His breath was laced with whiskey and pain.
I laughed sarcastically. Two months, and this is how he greets me? I couldn’t believe him. I still felt the anger for what he did—and what he didn’t do. While I was suffering alone, he was enjoying his time with his first love... on the bed where I used to sleep. How shameless!
"Is that how the Alpha of Nightfall Pack greets his former Luna?"
He clenched his jaw, his eyes remaining on me, sharp and cold. "Are you really in a relationship with Kieran Carver, huh? Tell me it’s not Carver’s."
"What is it to you?" I fired back coldly.
He shook his head and gritted his teeth. "Of all people, why him? And really? You’re already pregnant with another man? How could you?"
Rage was very evident on his face and in his voice. I understood why he acted like this—it was his pride talking. He thought it was so easy for me to replace him. Funny, I once thought he was jealous whenever he acted this way. I was a fool.
"Why do you care?"
"Tell me the truth, Kyra! Are you really pregnant?" His voice was hoarse and disappointed, but I couldn’t be more disappointed than him.
"Why would I lie about having a pup?"
He grabbed my wrists and pinned them against the door above my head. My lips parted as I stared at his dark face and burning eyes.
"You can’t be with him, Kyra! He’s your fucking stepbrother."
"We’re not related by blood, Nathan." For the first time, I was thankful that Kieran and I didn’t share the same blood. It somehow became an advantage.
He sucked in a breath as he clenched his jaw. "I can’t believe you..."
"What? Are you expecting me to cry over our fallen marriage? May I remind you, Nathan—I was forced to marry you—"
I wasn’t able to finish my words before he suddenly crashed his lips onto mine. I couldn’t move. What he did shocked me. My body froze in place, and I could only look at him, eyes wide in shock. He kept kissing me while I remained still.
I felt my heart skip a beat. Every painful memory came rushing back into my mind. His kisses brought everything back: the days we spent together, our friendship, our marriage, our three years together. Everything had been bottled up inside me, and now, it was all about to explode.
For two months, I’d worked on my courage so that when I faced him again, I would be strong enough not to break down. But... but one kiss from him made my knees tremble again. One kiss, and my world spun beautifully once again. It was pathetic how quickly my walls crashed with just one kiss, but I knew I couldn’t let him have control over me again.
"Kyra..." he whispered as he gently caressed my waist with his other hand. That’s when I was completely brought back to reality.
I shoved at his chest, but he didn’t budge. "You replaced me before my scent faded from our sheets!"
His grip on my wrists above my head loosened, and I took the opportunity to pull my arms back. He gripped my jaw and kissed me harder. I pushed him away and slapped his cheek in anger. My hands were trembling, both with anger and nerves. I couldn’t believe he did that. Why did he do that?
"What are you doing?" I growled at him.
He clenched his jaw. His eyes were darkened with anger, and he had lost all control. He pushed me against the closed door again and grabbed my leg. I was shocked when he pressed our bodies together, lifting my right leg and wrapping it around his waist. What he did ignited something inside me. I felt a sudden fiery pleasure burn through me, making my whole body throb. Oh God!
"Nathan!" I panicked. "You lost the right to touch me when you fucked her in our bed!"
He started kissing my neck aggressively, and when he was about to undress me, I gathered all my strength and pushed him away. For the second time, I slapped him.
My chest was heaving. My heart raced inside my chest. I didn’t know what had gotten into him, but I think my second slap woke him up. He stared at me with parted lips and shocked eyes.
I gritted my teeth and fixed myself. My eyes were sharp as I looked at him again. Anger got the best of me. I grabbed him and pushed him against the door. I didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of hurting me. If he was up for a silly game, then I’d play along.
I grabbed his tie and pulled him closer to me, staring coldly into his eyes. "Are you seriously going to fuck your ex-mate on your engagement night? Are you insulting me, Nathan?"
