Chapter 24: Chapter 24
Nathan’s POV
The engine of my black Range Rover had long gone cold as I waited outside the Monroe family estate, the ancestral home of the Raven Shadow Pack. I knew Kieran Carver would bring her here. I just didn’t know when.
I never heard anything about her again after I left the hospital where she was admitted. I was beyond crushed that day. I had no strength to even move. It was Sophia who brought me back to the hospital that day.
I gripped the steering wheel tighter, my Alpha-enhanced hearing picking up the distant rumble of engines. A convoy of black SUVs rolled through the iron gates, their windows tinted dark enough to hide even werewolf eyes.
I swallowed hard as I felt my heart race. She must be there. I couldn’t move as I watched the group of cars. Hope filled me when I saw Kieran Carver get out of the car. I knew Kyra would come out next, and I was right, but it felt like everything around me disappeared and my world stopped spinning when Carver wrapped his arm around her waist and... they kissed.
Alaric howled in agony inside me, the sound echoing through our bond. The mate bond I’d never properly claimed now felt like shards of glass in my chest.
"She’s ours!" Alaric snarled.
But she wasn’t. Not anymore.
My heated conversation with Kieran Carver in the hospital rushed back to my mind. The way he confidently told me that Kyra didn’t hate him. The way he smashed my face with the truth that he was her first. The way he crushed my confidence and made me so fucking insecure.
I felt something in the corner of my eye as I gripped the steering wheel.
I started to breathe heavily as I averted my gaze from them and buried my face in the steering wheel. "Why did you do this to me, Kyra?"
I lifted my face again as anger took over me. My eyes landed on the two rings on my finger. Consumed by anger, I took them off and threw them on the floor of the car.
The whiskey burned like liquid fire as I downed my fourth glass at The Howling Moon, a bar frequented by pack members. Normally, the scent of pine would have calmed me, but tonight it just reminded me of her.
Kyra always found me when I drowned myself like this. She’d drag me home, scolding me in that soft voice that made Alaric whimper. But tonight? She was probably in Kieran’s bed right now, his teeth marking what should have been mine.
"We should challenge him," Alaric growled. "Fight for our mate."
I laughed bitterly into my glass. What was the point? Kieran had always been the better Alpha—stronger, colder, more ruthless.
"Nathan!" Sophia’s scent washed over me; her honey-blonde hair caught the dim light, but all I saw was Kyra’s figure.
Right! I should direct my attention to Sophia. I waited for this woman to come back. She was the one I wanted even before. I should move on and forget about Kyra.
I squeezed my eyes closed as my chest tightened when the image of Kyra and Kieran Carver kissing filled my mind. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Maybe it’s time for us to drift apart. I’ve been protecting Kyra all these years. Maybe it’s time for me to step back and let her have the life she deserves. If she has feelings for Kieran Carver, it’s her chance to be happy. It’s our chance to forgive each other and live a life of our own.
I should... let her go.
"Come home," she murmured, her fingers tracing my jaw. Her touch felt so soft.
My hands found the hem of her dress as we stumbled into my house.
The warmth of her lips enveloped my cold lips. "Do you still love me, Nathan?"
I should have said yes. Sophia was my fated mate, after all.
I stared at Sophia. I wanted to answer but I couldn’t open my lips. In the end, I cupped her jaw and crashed my lips on hers.
I kissed her hungrily as I caressed her cheek, and she wrapped her legs around my waist. I walked towards the couch and sat down.
I pulled away from the kiss and took her dress off. I pressed my palms against her stomach and licked her collarbone. She moaned as her fingers tangled in my hair.
We kissed hungrily again as she unbuckled my belt. It didn’t take us long until I felt my length rubbing against her creamy folds as she moved on my lap.
I’m going to forget about you now, Kyra. I just hope he can make you happy because I can’t promise not to run after you if I see you crying because of him. I’ll step aside for your happiness, but I will never stop caring about you.
"Ah! Nathan!" Sophia moaned erotically as our bodies joined together. I grabbed her neck and kissed her lips to keep her quiet.
But as we moved together, Alaric turned away in disgust. "This is wrong. She’s not our Luna."
I silenced him with another brutal thrust.
Goodbye, Kyra.

Kyra’s POV
The kiss.
It played on loop in my mind—the shocking warmth of Kieran’s lips, the way his cedar-and-musk scent had overwhelmed my senses.
Sylvia, my wolf spirit, huffed in annoyance. "Stop obsessing. It was an accident."
A sharp knock startled me.
"Come out. It’s time for breakfast."
My lips parted after I heard Kieran’s voice. I wasn’t ready to face him after what happened but... why should I avoid him? It’s not like I did it intentionally. And he’s my stepbrother. There should be no malice in that accidental kiss. It’s fine with him, anyway. He’s not affected.
I splashed cold water on my face, trying to scrub away the memory of his touch. When I stepped out of my room, I jumped in shock when I saw Kieran standing beside my door. His back was resting against the wall. He was playing with his Rubik’s cube again while there was a stick between his lips.
My forehead creased as I tried to calm myself. "What are you doing here?"
"Waiting."
My jaw dropped. "You don’t have to."
He slowly fixed his eyes on me. His blank and cold eyes remained dark. "Here’s your phone. I charged it last night."
I stared at him in shock. "You know that I might contact Nathan and tell him to pick me up, right?"
A low growl rumbled in his chest—more wolf than man. "Try it, and I’ll burn his fashion empire to the ground. Your choice, little wolf."
Sylvia bristled at the threat, but before I could retort, my phone buzzed.
I received a message from an unknown number.
My heart was torn apart as soon as I opened the message and realized who sent it. It was from Sophia, and she sent me a photo of herself and Nathan, both naked and kissing... on the bed where I used to sleep.
The screen cracked under my grip as Sylvia howled in grief.
