Chapter 175: Chapter 175
Kyra’s POV
Ever since Nathan proposed, I’ve been splitting my time between Emily’s apartment and the Nightfall Pack house. Nathan wants Snow to stay with him more often, so she’s been primarily at his place. For my daughter, I’ve been shuttling back and forth between both homes.
Not that I’m complaining. My heart can’t contain the happiness I feel these days. Today, Snow wanted to go shopping, so Nathan drove us to the mall.
"That too!" Snow exclaimed excitedly, pointing at a box of chocolate.
Nathan chuckled and carried her toward the confectionery section. I watched as her small arms wrapped around two boxes that barely fit in her grasp.
"You want more?" Nathan asked indulgently.
"Nathan, that’s enough. She’ll be bouncing off the walls again," I warned, knowing how hyper she gets with sugar.
Nathan glanced at me with that half-smile that still made my heart flutter. "Just one box, then?"
I nodded, smiling as he gently convinced our daughter to put one box back. The remaining chocolate went into our shopping cart, and we continued browsing. After finishing our grocery shopping, Nathan took the bags to the car while Snow and I waited inside the mall.
"Aunt Emily!" Snow suddenly pointed across the walkway.
I couldn’t help but grin when I saw Emily looking completely pissed off, with Matt Foster following her around like a lost puppy. It was pretty hilarious considering what Emily had told me about their whole drama.
"Let’s go to Aunt Emily, mommy!" Snow tugged at my hand.
"No, sweetie. We’re here with daddy, right?" I reminded her gently.
She blinked those big innocent eyes and smiled. "Yes! Mommy, is daddy Nathan my real daddy?"
The question caught me off guard. I crouched down to her level. "Do you like him?"
"I love daddy Nathan, mommy. Can he be my real daddy?"
My heart melted. "Yes, pumpkin."
Her eyes widened with excitement. "You’ll marry him?"
I showed her my engagement ring, the diamond catching the mall lights. "Yes, baby. I will marry your daddy."
She giggled behind her small hands. "My mommy and daddy are getting married. I’m so happy!"
I chuckled and ruffled her hair. "We’ll be a happy family. Me, daddy, you and another baby."
"I’ll have a baby brother?" Her eyes grew even wider.
"We’re not sure if it’s a baby brother yet, sweetheart. But yes, we’re having another baby."
"Yay! We’ll be four!" She jumped up and down, celebrating our good news.
Nathan returned just then, immediately smiling at the joy radiating from our daughter’s face.
"What’s my baby girl celebrating?" He scooped her up, and she cupped his cheeks, planting a kiss on his nose.
"Daddy, mommy said we’ll have a baby!"
Nathan glanced at me with that knowing smirk before looking back at Snow. "Yes, princess. Are you excited?"
"Yes! I’m excited!"
I couldn’t help but smile as Nathan walked toward me with our daughter in his arms. He took my hand and pressed a soft kiss to my cheek. "Mom called," he whispered. "She’s inviting us to dinner."
I looked up at him. "You told them?"
"I want to, but I need your permission."
"You don’t need my permission," I said, squeezing his hand. "You can tell them about us."
He smiled and nodded. "I’ll tell the world that you’re mine."
His words sent my heart racing. As we walked hand in hand through the mall, I caught sight of a familiar figure watching us from a distance.
Kieran.
I stared at him while walking beside Nathan. Kieran’s eyes looked hollow, hurt. But the rage that usually burned in them had disappeared. It seemed like he’d finally accepted that we weren’t meant for each other.
Gone was the impeccably dressed Alpha I once knew. His normally designer suits had been replaced by wrinkled casual clothes. The sharp jawline I once admired was covered in several days’ worth of stubble. Despite everything he’d done, a pang of sympathy hit me. He was still the boy I’d grown up with, the step-brother who’d been part of my life for years. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
"Kyra..."
I blinked and glanced at Nathan. When I looked back to where I’d seen Kieran, he was gone.
"Y-Yeah?"
Nathan’s forehead creased with concern. "What’s wrong?"
"Nothing," I shook my head quickly.
He studied me for a few seconds before nodding. "Snow wants to watch a movie later."
"Okay," I agreed. "I need to use the restroom first."
"We’ll go with you."
"No, it’s fine," I assured him.
He released my hand reluctantly. "We’ll be in the department store."
I smiled, caressing his cheek before giving him a quick kiss and pecking Snow’s cheek. Then I headed toward the restrooms.
As I turned the corner to the restroom area, I spotted Kieran standing in front of the men’s room, staring vacantly into space, lost in thought.
"Are you stalking me?" I asked.
He flinched and looked around before his eyes settled on me. My lips parted as I took in the changes in his appearance up close. Dark circles shadowed his eyes, he’d lost weight, and his usually clean-shaven face was covered in facial hair.
Sylvia stirred within me. "He looks terrible."
Thankfully, no one else was around. Kieran pressed his lips together and looked down, keeping his distance with his hands in his pockets.
"Was it your fault?" I asked. "The exposure of the Rogue faction members?"
He looked up at me with a sad smile. "I told you I’d make things right."
"I still won’t forgive you," I said firmly, even as Sylvia growled in agreement.
"As long as I can make up for my sins."
"There’s nothing you can do to make up for it."
He looked down again and nodded slowly. "I understand. And I’m happy that you’re happy."
I was about to respond when the sound of footsteps and a commotion caught my attention. My blood ran cold when I saw a man staring directly at me, pointing a gun at my head.
Before I could react, a hand grabbed my wrist and yanked me away. Kieran pulled me into a run.
"Kieran!" I snarled, trying to break free.
"Run, Kyra! Those people are after you!"
"What?"
"You unknowingly crossed paths with some dangerous people. You’re in serious trouble."
"Let me go—" A gunshot rang out, and I screamed, instinctively covering my mouth.
Sylvia howled inside me, ready for a fight. "We need to protect our mate and pup!"
But this was a shopping mall,we couldn’t shift here.
My eyes widened as I angrily pulled my arm from Kieran’s grasp. He faced me with desperation in his eyes.
"Kyra, if that man sees you with your family, they’ll all be in danger!"
"Why should I believe you?" I demanded.
"Because you have no choice! I won’t abduct you, I promise. After we get away from him, I’ll let you go."
Another gunshot rang out. I glanced back to see the man closing in on us, his gun now in plain sight. Shoppers screamed and scattered in all directions.
Kieran was right—I had no choice.
I ran with him, adrenaline pumping through my veins as we weaved through terrified shoppers. When we finally lost the gunman, Kieran immediately released me.
"Find a taxi," he urged. "Call Nathan. Go somewhere safe."
I nodded, still breathless, and flagged down a cab. As it pulled away, I checked my phone and realized Nathan had called nearly a hundred times in the few minutes since the incident began.
I didn’t know if I could trust Kieran again, but one thing was certain, I needed to make sure my family was safe and find out who was behind this attack.
