Chapter 128: Chapter 128
Kyra’s POV
I sighed, maybe for the twentieth time that day. I was back in my office, waiting for Nathan and Snow to return. My mind kept circling what Attorney Lee had told me. Everything about my mother felt like a mystery.
Mom had been an heiress—Eva Foster—kidnapped as a child and raised as Kate Peterson. My chest felt tight. I couldn’t breathe properly. Sylvia was stirring inside me. She could sense how upset I was.
Did Mom know who she really was? Did she ever find out she was from the Foster family?
Dad was gone. I had no one to ask about Mom’s past. Attorney Lee had said Madam Foster died three months ago. Now, only Mom’s siblings were left—a whole family I’d never known about.
"Mommy!"
Snow ran into my office, happiness lighting up her face. She jumped onto my lap and I hugged her tightly.
"How was Daddy’s company, little lady?" I smiled and kissed her head.
She giggled. Ana flopped onto my couch, looking tired. freewёbnoνel.com
Nathan sat across from my desk, silently watching us.
Maybe I should tell him about Snow now. But my head was still spinning from everything about Mom. I couldn’t think straight.
"You okay?" Nathan asked, his voice filled with concern.
I shook my head. "No."
He looked right at me, and I didn’t look away.
"Mommy, I saw Daddy Nathan’s dad in his office," Snow said, fiddling with my necklace.
I raised an eyebrow. Had Alpha Richard come to visit?
"Dad came by," Nathan said, looking just as surprised. "I was shocked."
I nodded. Nathan and his father had never been close. "Alpha Richard is cold, but he cares about you, Nathan."
"I know. I get it now," he said.
"Daddy, can I go to your house again?" Snow asked, looking up at Nathan with those innocent eyes.
Every time Snow called Nathan "daddy," his face softened. It made my heart ache. They had a connection, even if they didn’t know why. I used scent-blocking spray on Snow every day. I was even thinking about finding a witch to hide Snow’s scent.
Sylvia howled inside me. She wanted me to tell him the truth. But I couldn’t risk hurting Snow. Nathan would be furious if he found out I’d kept his daughter from him for five years. Snow would be devastated. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Snow moved to sit with Ana on the couch. Nathan looked at me again. He wanted to ask something but hesitated.
"Mom was adopted," I said. I needed to tell someone before it ate me alive.
His eyes went wide. He couldn’t speak.
"I met her real family’s lawyer today," I told him.
I smiled, but it felt bitter. "And I don’t know what to do."
Nathan leaned forward. "I know you can handle this alone, but... I can help... if you need it."
His eyes were so sincere.
"She was supposed to inherit from the Foster family," I explained. "Since she’s gone, the business passes to me now. I don’t think I can do this alone, Nathan."
He shifted in his chair. "Do you need me to do anything?"
I smiled and shook my head. "I’m still trying to understand everything. I’m already busy with Dad’s company and leading the Raven Shadow Pack for now. Another family business would be too much. I’m just not ready for more."
"You could say no," he offered.
"Yeah, that’s what I want to do. But I’m scared to face Mom’s family. She has siblings, and I don’t trust people I don’t know." The Foster family was from the North. They were powerful and wealthy—complete strangers to me.
Nathan nodded and smiled gently. "Thank you for telling me... for trusting me."
That night, I put Snow to bed and lay down beside her. She slept peacefully while I stared at the ceiling, wide awake.
My phone buzzed. I grabbed it from the bedside table. My blood went cold when I saw who had texted me—Kieran. Same number as before.
My hands shook as I opened the message.
[Why is Nathan Anderson visiting you? Did you get back together? Don’t tell me you told him about your daughter. Don’t you dare, Kyra!]
I was furious. Sylvia growled inside me, just as angry. I got out of bed carefully and went downstairs. I called his number.
[Kyra...] His voice made my skin crawl.
"You’re shameless, Kieran," I whispered. I didn’t want to wake Snow. "After everything you did to me, you think you can tell me what to do?"
[You are still mine, Kyra,] he growled. [Just be glad you didn’t get pregnant with my child.]
"Loving you was the worst mistake of my life," I snapped. My voice shook with hatred. "And yes, I’m glad I never had your child. I wouldn’t want to give birth to a devil!"
[Stop it, Kyra!] he snarled. I could feel his anger through the phone. [I won’t let you go back to him! You should be with me, not that jerk! Did you forget how he made you look foolish? He played with your feelings!]
"Just like you did to me?" I countered.
[I didn’t play with your feelings.]
"Just stop, Kieran. Let me live in peace." I was tired. Tired of his obsession, his threats, and living in fear.
[No, Kyra!] His voice rose to a shout. [Don’t you dare tell him about his daughter. If you do, I’ll take your daughter away from you. He doesn’t deserve to be happy. He doesn’t deserve you!]
My heart went cold. He was threatening Snow.
"Don’t ever bring my daughter into your pathetic revenge, Kieran," I said, my voice low and deadly. "I will never forgive you if you touch her."
[I can handle your anger. I can take your hate. But I can’t accept you going back to him after he ruined us. You were meant to be mine, Kyra. Remember this. You can’t tell him about his daughter.]
I laughed, but the sound was hollow. "You forgot something, Kieran. You’re a rogue now. The most wanted criminal in all the packs. Every Alpha is hunting you. Maybe you should worry about staying alive instead of threatening me."
[Don’t underestimate me, Kyra. If I’m going down, I’ll drag Nathan Anderson with me. Even if it kills me, I’ll destroy him. Try me.]
The call ended. I stood alone in the dark living room. My heart raced. Sylvia paced inside me, feeling the same danger I did.
I closed my eyes and tried to breathe evenly. Kieran was dangerous. He was crazy and obsessed. I knew he meant every threat.
I had to keep Snow safe. That meant I couldn’t tell Nathan the truth, no matter how much it hurt.
I walked back upstairs and got into bed beside my daughter. I watched her peaceful face in the moonlight. She looked so much like her father.
"I’ll protect you," I whispered, brushing her hair from her forehead. "No matter what."
