Chapter 110: Chapter 110
Kyra’s POV
I was startled by a worried voice calling out, "Elle!"
When I looked up, Caleb Walter, my boss, stood a few meters away, concern etched across his face. He was impeccably dressed in his usual business attire, black-rimmed glasses perched on his nose.
Why is he here?
He rushed to my side, his eyes scanning me for injuries. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
I glanced back at Nathan, who stood watching us with an unreadable expression, his minty scent carrying subtly on the breeze.
"Sir, why are you here?" I asked, my voice betraying my exhaustion.
He clenched his jaw. "It’s natural for an employer to worry about his promising employee."
I wasn’t sure I should accept his explanation, but I simply nodded as one of the Alpha Council investigators approached us.
"Miss Elle—"
"Kyra," I interrupted, deciding there was no reason to hide my identity anymore. "Kyra Monroe."
From the corner of my eye, I saw Mr. Walter’s forehead crease in confusion. I understood if he wouldn’t want me as his employee after discovering my deception, but that hardly mattered now. My focus had shifted to reclaiming my father’s company.
"Then who is Elle?" The investigator looked confused, glancing between me and Mr. Walter.
I crossed my arms. "Elle was my great-grandmother’s name... when she was still unmarried."
The investigator nodded. "We need to ask you some questions about Kieran Carver, Miss Monroe. But first, we should have our doctors check you."
"No. I want to go home."
"Kyra," Nathan interrupted, touching my elbow. My wolf Sylvia stirred at his touch, but I kept her quiet. "You need to see a doctor."
He immediately withdrew his hand when I stared at it coolly.
"I’ll escort her home," Nathan told the investigator. "She needs rest."
"I should take her since she’s my employee," Mr. Walter countered.
I looked between them in disbelief. Really? I was too exhausted for this petty fight. All I wanted was to hold my daughter again.
"Where are your men?" I asked the investigator directly, ignoring both Nathan and Mr. Walter. The questions in their eyes would have to wait. Right now, I needed to lie in bed beside my daughter and recover in peace.
When I finally arrived home, Phoebe and Luke were on the couch watching cartoons. Phoebe’s eyes were restless with worry, and when she heard the door, she immediately jumped up.

Though exhausted, her embrace comforted me. I’d expected my daughter to hug me first, but Phoebe was quicker. When I smiled at her and then looked at my beautiful angel, Snow was staring at me with tears in her eyes.
My own eyes welled up. "Won’t you hug mommy?"
She sobbed and ran to me. "Mommy. I miss you!"
I lifted her into my arms and held her tight, kissing her hair repeatedly as I bit my bottom lip to suppress my sobs. For a moment, I’d feared I might never see her again.
"Mommy, where have you been? I was so sad without you. Don’t leave me again, please."
I hugged her even tighter. "I won’t leave again, I promise."
She clung to my neck, sobbing. "I won’t leave you again, sweetie. I promise."
When I looked up, Phoebe was watching us intently. I knew she had many questions, but I wasn’t ready to tell her about Snow’s real father yet.
Snow cried herself to sleep in my arms. I gently laid her on the bed and settled beside her.
From the bedroom doorway, I noticed Phoebe watching us again.
I got up to talk to her, following her to the living room where she gathered her things.
"I should leave now. Mom called. She’s worried."
I nodded. "Won’t you ask me about her?"
She looked into my eyes and smiled gently. "I respect you, Kyra. You’re a mother and I know you want the best for her. When you’re ready, you can tell me everything."
I nodded and pulled her into a hug, stroking her hair. "Thank you, Phoebe."
She smiled as she waved goodbye. Luke left with her, and I returned to bed beside my daughter. That night, after almost a week, I was able to sleep soundly. I even overslept and woke up the next morning to see my daughter watching me while I slept.
"Good morning, sweetie." I kissed her cheek as I greeted her. She smiled sweetly and hugged me. She had always been clingy, and became even more so after my absence.
I cooked and we ate breakfast together. I was watching Snow’s favorite cartoon with her when my phone rang. I grabbed it and answered the call after I saw the name.
"Hello, Investigator?"
It was the Alpha Council investigator in charge of my case.
"Miss Monroe, I know you’re still recovering, but can I ask you to come over to the Alpha Council headquarters? We have more questions about Kieran’s rogue operations and his involvement in your father’s death."
I bit my bottom lip and looked at my daughter. "Can you just come over to my apartment? I’ll give you my address."
The investigator agreed and arrived not long after I ended the call. He came with another Alpha Council member, both carrying the unmistakable aura of powerful wolves.
"Sweetie, can you go to our room for a while?"
Snow looked at me with frightened eyes. I kissed her cheek and caressed her chin. "Mommy won’t leave."
"Promise?"
"I promise." I watched as she walked slowly towards the bedroom. She even stared at me before she finally closed the door.
"I’m sorry for this, Miss Monroe. We just need you to answer some questions for the investigation. Kieran Carver’s leadership of the rogue faction has caused numerous territorial disputes and human casualties. Your testimony could help us finally bring him to justice."
I nodded at the investigator. "I’m more than willing to help. He killed my father and tried to take over the Monroe Group of Companies through me. I’ll tell you everything I know."
I would do everything to catch Kieran. He was already dangerous enough, and I wouldn’t be able to live peacefully as long as he was on the loose. He was shot, but I knew it wasn’t a critical wound. Additionally, he still had many connections among other rogue factions. I needed to destroy his reputation even before he recovered and came back. I needed to protect myself and my daughter.
After the investigators left, I received another call. This time, Emily’s name appeared on the screen. I quickly answered as I closed the door. I was worried about her. I thought Kieran might have done something to her. "Hello?"
"Your scheduled meeting with the shareholders of your father’s company is tomorrow. Do you want me to adjust it or is it fine?"
I smiled. "I’m glad you’re okay."
I heard her sigh. "Fine! I’m going to adjust it. By the way, you might want to hire an assistant. I’m not fit to be one, just so you know. And the Alpha Council called me too. They want all documents related to the company’s dealings with Kieran’s pack over the past five years."
I chuckled and bit my bottom lip. Who knew she’d be my friend? I thought she was my enemy when I first sensed her wolf’s presence. I judged her too quickly, but I’m glad I trusted her. She never disappointed me.
"I’m ready to attend the meeting tomorrow. Thank you, Emily. I owe you big time."
"Guess I need a huge compensation for this. How about helping me break my mating bond with that ruthless Alpha husband of mine? The Alpha Council might listen to you now."
