Chapter 88: Reunions
The two trespassers landed under the mango tree. They screamed and entered a weird squating defense position that supposedly made it easier to dash away at a moment’s notice.
They were facing the adder snakes, which had made themselves at home under the tree.
Naia purposely moved a few stable and big rocks in the area, and they created a den there.
It so happened that the male snake went out to capture a few prey in the forest zone when he encountered the two that suddenly appeared.
The adder snake was upright, looking at them curiously while hissing. There was no hostility, but it made the newcomers even more terrified.
Anyway, Naia ignored them and headed along the corridor, making a few more turns and teleporting here and there. She didn’t have X-ray vision, but she had an idea where the good stuff was, considering how greedy the space was.
Basically, she could sense where the ’delicious’ energy was, and she just had to head there. The challenge was that the basement was filled with solid walls, so her teleportation ability was limited. She couldn’t map the place with just her ability either because of it.
Another challenge was the CCTVs. Since she couldn’t map the place, she wasn’t entirely sure where the cameras were facing. How could she accurately land on a blind spot each time?
So she did the crude thing and found the CCTV control room and caused them to pass out. They conveniently had a few bottles of booze in the pantry, so she set it up as if they had passed out drunk.
On the other hand, the cameras kept rolling, but she set it up so it wasn’t recording and simply duplicated the previous day’s to save. This way, even if someone peeked in, they wouldn’t sound an alarm. They’d only find out it was tampered with if they tried looking for the date’s footage.
After this, she still ended up making a few wrong turns and dead ends. It was the kind where the goal was on the other side of the wall, but she had no way to get there. The vent ducts couldn’t be used like in the movies. The ones here simply weren’t large enough.
Fortunately, the basement area was not too big, probably just one football field in terms of area.
It took her a couple of minutes before she finally found the door. Unsurprisingly, there was an armed guard outside so she went to make a distraction again.
She appeared behind him and smacked his head, causing the guard to fall down on his face.
The door could be accessed by ID, and she easily obtained the access pass hanging on the guard’s pants.
After grabbing the room’s worth of gems, she headed out and teleported hundreds of meters away to safety, and then teleported a few times until she was at least a kilometer away from the hidden village.
She even found a nice convenience store after removing her disguise, as if securing an alibi or something. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
She bought a basketful of goods and ate a cup of instant noodles at the table there. It was only then that she allowed herself to look at the two people inside. Amusingly, they were still in that same position. It had been several minutes. Weren’t they sore?
Slurp
She still didn’t take them out, though. The space was a secret, and she had to make sure it wouldn’t leak to outsiders. The fortunate part was that these two didn’t have anywhere to go, so she wasn’t too guilty keeping them there for a while while she figured out what to do with them.
Of course, she wasn’t planning on keeping them there forever. One, it was unethical. Second, they consumed energy by staying there.
The amount of energy consumed was not related to mass either. For example, one of the deer and the teenage girl had the same mass, but the girl consumed at least three times the energy the deer did.
Her only comfort was that the space was rich with energy, and there was no problem even if it consumed much more energy. It would still work passively for at least a decade.
However, since the effect was not unlimited, Naia developed the habit of getting as many sources of energy as she could, even if they were already redundant.
She needed to give them a decent place to sleep on. The RV was not with her yet, and she only had a few mattresses, tents, and mats.
She should’ve taken those modular dormitories before.
Before she could think more, however, she heard the familiar sound of helicopters coming from above. From her direction, there were already three helicopters. When she went out to peek, there were also a few helicopters coming in from other directions, but going towards the same place.
The place she was in was less than a kilometer away, and they were definitely heading in the direction of the hidden village.
"So quick?"
It hadn’t even been half an hour since she started livestreaming, right? It was impossible that this was the response to the livestream.
Could they be enemies?
Naia couldn’t help but feel nervous, wondering if there could be something going wrong here. Hopefully, the slaves inside would be safe.
Curious, she used her phone to enter the livestream.
She was startled to see that there were now more than four million watchers!
The people were continuously speaking. This time, some of them were saying how they disappeared.
"Please help us! My family..."
"My friend and I were just hiking when a van appeared..."
And so on.
Then she heard some loud sounds in the background, including the door slamming open. This caused the people on the screen to scream and flinch in surprise, many of them squatting down as if already fearing the worst attacks coming at them.
Naia pursed his lips, nervous. At that moment, she doubted whether her decisions were correct.
What she didn’t expect was that someone would call her (official) number, and the voice was familiar.
"Don’t worry about them," the man said. "They’ll be fine."
Naia’s heart skipped a beat.
"...Kael?"
