Chapter 51: Chapter 51: The Lin Family

Hearing Chen Qingdi’s words, Xu Menghan felt a warmth spread through her entire body.

This was the first time in a very long time that someone had shown her such concern. Chen Qingdi would let her do anything she wanted, no matter what!

No matter who tried to stop her, Chen Qingdi would handle them. He would protect her.

A resolute feeling blossomed in Xu Menghan’s heart: she would follow Chen Qingdi for the rest of her life.

For Chen Qingdi, she would walk through a mountain of blades or a sea of fire without so much as blinking an eye.

"Looks like there are no more patients today. That’s fine, I suppose. At least I can relax a bit and not be so busy."

Chen Qingdi chuckled and walked into a hidden room.

Inside the hidden room was a hospital bed, and lying on it was a woman of peerless beauty—Chen Qingdi’s godmother, Lin Zhongxue.

When Lin Zhongxue saw her godson, Chen Qingdi, enter, she immediately sat up. "Qingdi," she asked, "did any patients come to the clinic for treatment today?"

Hearing his godmother ask, Chen Qingdi let out a long sigh. "None so far," he replied. "It’s been quiet for a while now, no patients at all."

Upon hearing this, the color returned to Lin Zhongxue’s pale face, a healthy blush spreading across her cheeks.

Her mood lifted instantly. She couldn’t care less about the clinic making money; her only concern was for the health of the common people.

So, seeing that no one was coming for treatment, how could she not be in high spirits?

No patients meant no sickness in the world, and for a physician, there was no greater happiness.

At this thought, Lin Zhongxue suddenly said to Chen Qingdi, "You have the Five Emperors Medical Scripture with you, right? Bring it here. Let your godmother see it. I have a secret to tell you."

"Qingdi, you must remember this secret," she began. "No one can know about it besides the two of us—not even your disciples or my own daughter. I don’t want to drag them into this. We are already entangled in this mess, so we will find a way to solve it ourselves."

"But the two of them are different. They’re just ordinary people. There’s no need to burden them with this pressure. It’s better if we just handle it ourselves."

Lin Zhongxue spoke to Chen Qingdi with grave importance.

Those words alone made Chen Qingdi realize there was more to his godmother than met the eye.

Otherwise, she would never have referred to them as "ordinary people."

"The truth is, you shouldn’t call me ’Godmother.’ You should call me ’Auntie.’ Your mother and I... we were biological sisters."

"We come from a great family, one that is very famous throughout the Capital City, though we remain hidden from the world. But when your mother wanted to marry your father, she faced fierce opposition. The one who stood in her way was your maternal grandfather—your mother’s own father."

"Your grandfather’s surname is Lin. His given name is Zhen."

"Perhaps hearing that name, you’ve already figured out who I’m talking about. Your guess is correct. It is him."

Hearing this, Chen Qingdi froze. It wasn’t because he was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information.

It was because his maternal grandfather was *the* Lin Zhen!

Lin Zhen was a veteran general of the Dragon Country, with at least fifty years of military service under his belt. He still held a high-ranking position and was one of the nation’s founding fathers.

Furthermore, the Lin Family was based in the heart of the Capital City and stood at the apex of all the great families—one could almost call them the chief of a hundred clans. And a powerhouse like that was actually related to him.

And it wasn’t a distant connection either; it was an incredibly close one.

Chen Qingdi didn’t feel awkward at all. He looked right at Lin Zhongxue and called out, "Auntie."

Lin Zhongxue beamed and acknowledged him, then continued her story. "Later, your mother insisted on marrying your father. Your grandfather sent ten Martial Saints to hunt them down. Your parents managed to escape to this place, where you were born."

"But later, when your mother and father returned to his family’s home, those villains targeted them. They attacked without warning and annihilated the entire Chen Family. Your father’s fate was unknown, whether he lived or died. Your mother managed to escape. She brought you and the Five Emperors Medical Scripture to me, then said she was going back to find your father."

"In the end, she disappeared too. As for you... you were taken by that old geezer to Medical God Island, where you inherited his ultimate skills."

Lin Zhongxue recounted the entire story of the distant past to Chen Qingdi.

Chen Qingdi stood frozen in place as he listened.

So, when the old man had told him his story, he had actually left some things out.

This left a bitter taste in Chen Qingdi’s mouth.

’That damned old man... why did he hide this from me for so long?’

’Was he afraid I would go after them for revenge?’

Chen Qingdi let out a cold laugh, a chill seeping into his heart.

Seeing his reaction, Lin Zhongxue quickly added, "A while ago, your grandfather sent men here. He wants you to return to the Lin Family and acknowledge your ancestry. He also demands that you change your name from Chen Qingdi."

"I refused them, of course, but your grandfather has been sending people to apply pressure. I expect more will come later to take you back to the Lin Family by force. Your grandfather, Lin Zhen, will never allow a Martial Dao genius like you to remain an outsider. To the Lin Family, it is a humiliation."

"As for the Five Emperors Medical Scripture, you must never let it fall into anyone’s hands, especially not your grandfather’s. Remember that. The Lin Family is an enormous clan with countless vassal families under its command. You have to be incredibly careful from now on."

Lin Zhongxue warned Chen Qingdi, her voice heavy with concern.

Hearing this, Chen Qingdi told his aunt to rest easy. Even if Lin Zhen himself were to come, he would never hand over the Five Emperors Medical Scripture.

If they had the power to do so, they were welcome to try and take the Medical Scripture from him by force.

Otherwise, he would never surrender it. The scripture was the ultimate treasure of the Chen Family.

To him, the Medical Scripture was as precious as his own life. How could he possibly allow his family’s ancestral treasure to fall into the hands of others?

However, just then, a bizarre voice suddenly echoed from outside the clinic.

"Chen Qingdi, we have come on official orders to apprehend you. Come quietly and surrender, lest we are forced to take action."

"After all, you are Elder Lin’s grandson. It would be utterly ridiculous if we had to use force against you!"

Outside the clinic stood five Martial Arts Saints. Each one of them possessed enough power to single-handedly defend an entire city!

’Such terrifying figures, gathered outside the clinic?’

’This must be on Elder Lin’s orders.’

’So, he’s really determined to make an enemy of me?’

"Heh... so that old tyrant Lin Zhen is as domineering as they say. I refuse to go back, so he sends men to drag me there. But have any of you stopped to think about whether you’ll be leaving this place alive?"

Chen Qingdi sneered, staring straight at them.
