Chapter 45: Chapter 45: A Respectful Welcome

They walked out of the underground fighting ring.

It was dusk outside. The sky was cloaked in layers of darkness, and a smattering of stars hung high in the night.

Yi Xuesha, who had been silent the whole way while recovering from her injuries, couldn’t help but ask, "Master, why did we let that branch of the Celestial Ninja Group go? A man like Ryuzawa Kenichi always gets his revenge. He will definitely find a way to come after you."

"Of course... it’s to use a long line to catch a big fish."

Chen Qingdi looked at his humble subordinate, feeling a bit more approval for her. He offered some guidance, "A mere Ryuzawa Kenichi isn’t worthy of my attention."

"How strong is your Celestial Ninja Group?"

"Very strong." Yi Xuesha recalled what Chen Qingdi had said earlier and suddenly realized that what she considered ’very strong’ was nothing more than an ant in his eyes.

She pressed her lips together and replied respectfully, "Every branch of the Celestial Ninja Group is overseen by an expert. Above them are the Elders, and then the most powerful of all, the Celestial Emperor."

"I’ve never seen the ten Elders in action, but they are certainly much stronger than Ryuzawa Kenichi."

Chen Qingdi nodded.

’Now this is getting interesting.’

Ryuzawa Kenichi did have some skill; he had required Chen Qingdi to use thirty percent of his power.

’Since they’re Elders of the Celestial Ninja Group, they should be worthy of forty percent of my power, right?’

They continued their conversation, one asking and the other answering.

Slowly, they made their way out of the underground fighting ring.

As fate would have it, they once again ran into Zheng Zhiyi and Ma Xiaorong.

Zheng Zhiyi, who had been slapped earlier, clutched his swollen cheek and sneered, "And you called me a lapdog for the Japanese. Didn’t you run in there just the same? What, did you get thrown out?!"

"Hmph. The owner of this fighting ring is no ordinary person. You think you could impress him with just your brute force?"

Chen Qingdi had spent less than half an hour in the underground fighting ring from start to finish.

So in Zheng Zhiyi’s eyes, Chen Qingdi must have been kicked out.

"Shut your mouth!"

"How dare you offend the Master! You’re courting death!"

Yi Xuesha immediately moved to strike, ready to teach Zheng Zhiyi a lesson.

"Chen Qingdi! Control your person!"

Zheng Zhiyi scrambled away in a panic. He had already witnessed Yi Xuesha’s ruthlessness before.

He did not want to get beaten again.

"I can’t control her."

Chen Qingdi turned his head away indifferently, showing he was powerless to help.

And so, fists rained down on Zheng Zhiyi once more. Ma Xiaorong tried to help, but in the blink of an eye, she was on the ground wailing alongside him.

Yi Xuesha’s attack was measured.

She could tell Chen Qingdi didn’t want the two dead, so each of her strikes was aimed at torture.

"Murder!"

"Help me!"

"SOB! Stop hitting me, stop hitting me! I was wrong!"

A few minutes later, Zheng Zhiyi was on his knees begging for mercy, his face bruised and swollen, a pathetic sight to behold.

Ma Xiaorong, beside him, was no better off. Her long hair was a mess, and the nose she’d paid good money for was now crooked. She looked like a shrew, sitting on the pavement wailing and crying.

They attracted the attention and pointed fingers of many passersby.

"Interesting, interesting. Is someone catching a cheater?"

"What cheater? It’s obviously a handsome guy teaching a shrew a lesson."

"What do you guys know? Just sit back and enjoy the show."

Seeing the crowd of onlookers growing, Chen Qingdi told Yi Xuesha to stop.

A simple lesson was enough.

Continuing to beat them would only dirty their hands.

"Chen Qingdi, if you’ve got the guts, keep hitting me!"

"SOB! You bastard!"

The shameless pair wailed and screamed at his back.

They could only watch as Chen Qingdi’s figure grew more and more distant.

They stumbled to their feet, the movement pulling at their wounds and making them cry out in pain.

"What are you laughing at!"

Ma Xiaorong pointed aggressively at a young girl who couldn’t help but let out a laugh.

The girl had a tough personality and retorted, "So what if I did? I laughed!"

"You little brat, I’ll rip your mouth off!"

Ma Xiaorong angrily stepped forward, but as soon as she moved, her wounds pulled again, and her face turned pale with pain.

"Hahaha! No wonder you got beaten up. Go get your head checked, and while you’re at it, get that nose fixed."

The crowd of onlookers roared with laughter.

They showed the pair no respect whatsoever.

They could see it clearly now. Ma Xiaorong was a completely unreasonable person. No wonder she’d gotten beaten up on the street.

"Isn’t this humiliating enough?!" Zheng Zhiyi, trying to save what little face he had left, covered his cheek and pulled Ma Xiaorong away.

They had utterly lost all face today.

’One day.’

’I will repay today’s humiliation a hundredfold.’

’No!’

’Right now is the perfect opportunity!’

Zheng Zhiyi stared venomously at the entrance to the underground fighting ring.

He had heard that this ring occasionally took on assassination jobs.

Chen Qingdi had trampled on his dignity and had him and his wife beaten in the street. He absolutely could not swallow this insult!

"Come on, we’re getting our revenge!"

Disheveled and wretched, the two of them barged into the underground fighting ring.

Before they could even get inside, they were stopped by one of the ring’s staff members.

"Folks, this is a fighting ring. We don’t accept beggars."

The staff member smiled politely and held out a hand to stop them.

"This is outrageous! I have money!"

Zheng Zhiyi’s expression was utterly foul. He pulled a bank card from his wallet and threw it at the staff member’s face.

"My apologies, sir! I was blind. Please, come in!"

Realizing he had misjudged them, the staff member hurriedly picked up the bank card and apologized.

It wasn’t his fault, though.

The pair really did look so much like beggars that anyone else would have thought the same thing at first glance.

’Is beggar-chic in style now?’

’Have rich people started enjoying cosplaying as beggars?’

"Hmph! At least you know your place."

Straightening the collar of his suit, Zheng Zhiyi puffed out his chest and strode into the underground fighting ring.

The massive underground fighting ring was completely empty.

There were still bloodstains on the floor.

A few staff members were cleaning up the area.

With Chen Qingdi’s sudden attack, the ring obviously couldn’t continue its normal operations. Besides, Ryuzawa Kenichi was in no mood to stay open.

He was more interested in getting revenge on Chen Qingdi.

"Sir, the ring is temporarily closed. Please come back tomorrow."

"Thank you for your cooperation."

A staff member noticed the two barge in and approached them with a gentle reminder.

Zheng Zhiyi hadn’t come to watch a match anyway. He said in a low voice, "I want to hire you to kill someone for me."

"Hmm? What was that, sir? This is a fighting ring," the staff member said, his expression unchanging.

"Stop pretending. A friend recommended you."

"Haha, well, if you’re a friend of a friend, please come this way, sir."

The staff member chuckled and led Zheng Zhiyi and his wife across the floor of the arena.

Seeing the devastated state of the entire ring, Zheng Zhiyi asked curiously, "What happened to your ring?"

"Sigh, don’t even ask."

The staff member sighed.

Recalling the domineering and arrogant figure of that young man, he still felt a lingering fear. "The ring ran into a master. Even our boss was alerted and had to come out personally to smooth things over."

"He was that strong?"

’What kind of master could force the owner of this mysterious and unpredictable ring to appear personally?!’

He had heard from his friends in high society.

The owner of this ring was incredibly powerful, no mere mortal.

"’Strong’ doesn’t even begin to cover it. The ring is only closed because of that master."

"So that’s how it is."

Ma Xiaorong finally understood why Chen Qingdi had left the fighting ring so quickly.

’So he was afraid of getting caught in the crossfire with that master and ran away at the first opportunity!’

’He acts all tough on the surface, but when he meets a real master, isn’t he scared too?’

’All he knows is how to have his underling bully two ordinary people like us who don’t know any Martial Arts.’

’Well, that’s fine.’

’We’ll just pay to hire an even stronger master to deal with him.’
