Just then, Zhao Rong pulled his phone from his pocket and opened the Paradise Shopping Cart app. As he scrolled through it, looking for a high-tech gadget that could help, the four people beside him—Lili, Yu Lan, Xuelian, and the assistant—were already arguing up a storm.
The assistant stated his case firmly. "I think the village belle must be the righteous one. Everything she says has to be true. And these villagers are all bad people, so everything they say is a lie. All we have to do is trust the village belle and wipe out these villagers. That’ll solve everything!"
Lili strongly disagreed. "Assistant, how can you generalize like that? We have to stick to the facts and base this on reality. We can’t jump to conclusions about who’s right and who’s wrong until we have the correct answer."
Yu Lan sided with Lili, arguing with the assistant, "Assistant, can’t you be less absolute? Nothing is ever that black and white. We should stay quiet for now and let Zhao Rong make the call."
Xuelian readily agreed, turning her gaze to Zhao Rong. "Zhao Rong, it’s up to you to decide whether the village belle or the villagers are the righteous ones."
Just then, a package dropped from the sky and landed right in Zhao Rong’s arms. While unwrapping it, Zhao Rong said to the three women and the assistant, "Now, with this little piece of high-tech, I can quickly figure out who’s right and who’s wrong."
Hearing this, the assistant immediately concluded that Zhao Rong must have bought a lie detector. He could use it to test the statements from both the village belle and the villagers. Once they started the test, they could quickly and accurately determine who was right and who was wrong.
Lili didn’t think it was that simple. "It’s definitely not that easy," she said. "If a lie detector could solve the problem, this conflict between the villagers and the village belle would’ve been resolved long ago. I think Zhao Rong must have bought something that allows free travel between the mortal realm and the netherworld. He’s planning to go to the netherworld himself to find clues and prove who’s right!"
Yu Lan’s imagination ran wild. "Zhao Rong must have bought a machine that lets everyone return to their past lives! Only by going back to a past life can you truly see the truth of this one. After all, a spectator always sees the game more clearly than the players."
Xuelian said thoughtfully, "I think Zhao Rong must have bought a time machine. Or maybe he bought another scenario reenactment display to replay everything that happened in this village before we arrived. That way, he could see the full story and then make a judgment."
As everyone was guessing what mysterious machine Zhao Rong had bought, he suddenly opened the package and pulled out a single AA battery. When Lili, Yu Lan, Xuelian, and the assistant saw that he had merely bought a battery, they were instantly stunned.
Lili stepped forward, took the battery from Zhao Rong’s hand, and examined it closely. Frowning, she asked, "Zhao Rong, what do you need a battery for? Is your flashlight dead?"
Yu Lan also couldn’t understand why Zhao Rong would go to such great expense in the Paradise Shopping Cart just for a single AA battery. She asked curiously, "Zhao Rong, why did you buy a battery? Is this battery a lie detector? Can it tell who’s lying, the village belle or the villagers?"
Xuelian held the battery to her nose and sniffed it, then flicked it gently and listened to it by her ear. She realized this was no ordinary battery. With a smile, she said, "Zhao Rong, is this thing a miniature bomb?"
When Lili, Yu Lan, and the assistant heard Xuelian say the battery was a bomb, they were so shocked they fell to the ground.
Lili simply couldn’t believe it was a bomb. She looked at Zhao Rong and said, "Zhao Rong, you have to tell everyone what this thing really is! Otherwise, people will keep making these wild guesses."
Yu Lan also asked anxiously, "Zhao Rong, please just tell us the answer already! If we keep guessing like this, the theories will only get more outlandish, exaggerated, and ridiculous!"
Zhao Rong looked at the curious faces of the three women and the assistant’s astounded expression. He promptly revealed the battery’s technical name and purpose. "Xuelian guessed right," he said. "This battery really is a bomb. Its technical name, however, is the ’Lie Reversion Bomb.’ Basically, if anyone here has told a lie, this battery will immediately detonate and blast them into a charred cinder."
When the surrounding villagers heard Zhao Rong’s words, they grew frightened.
When the assistant saw the villagers’ fearful expressions and the village belle’s resolute one, he burst out laughing and announced his judgment. "It seems these villagers must have lied! They’re the evil ones! I can see the fear in their eyes and on their faces!" He then praised the village belle. "And look at the village belle! She shows no reaction to this Lie Bomb. Her expression is firm, her demeanor calm. Obviously, she hasn’t lied. Every word she’s said is true, and she is on the side of justice!"
Before the assistant could finish, Zhao Rong raised the battery high. Tossing it into the air with a laugh, he said, "It doesn’t matter who’s good, who’s bad, who’s telling the truth, and who’s lying. The moment I throw this battery into the air and it hits the ground, everything will be clear."
With that, Zhao Rong tossed the Lie Bomb into the air. The battery spun once before falling back to the ground and striking a sharp rock. The instant it hit the stone, it exploded. A mushroom cloud rose from their position, ascending into the sky before turning to dust and raining back down.
Zhao Rong stepped forward, climbed onto a high rock, and declared to everyone, "Now, whoever has been turned into a charred cinder is the one whose words were false! They are the evil ones!"
