Chapter 666: Chapter 627: Juliet’s Tomb
Lili speculated about Zhao Rong’s advanced snow vehicle. "I think his vehicle must be a small car that can race on the ice," she said.
Yu Lan shook her head and offered her opinion. "I think he definitely has an electric ice bike. It would be convenient and fast."
Xuelian, letting her imagination run wild, added, "I think his snow vehicle must be some kind of transportation that’s completely unprecedented."
Just as the three women were guessing, Zhao Rong opened the package. He pulled out an icebreaker to show them. "Look," he said, "what do you think of this icebreaker I bought from the Paradise Shopping Cart?"
When they saw that Zhao Rong had actually bought a small icebreaker from the Paradise Shopping Cart, the three women were all dumbfounded.
Lili, utterly astonished, asked, "Zhao Rong, why did you buy a boat? We’re on the ice of the Arctic Circle right now. A boat is supposed to be in the water, so how can it move on ice?"
Yu Lan reminded her, "Lili, didn’t you hear what Zhao Rong said? The boat he bought isn’t an ordinary one; it’s an icebreaker. An icebreaker is designed to break through the ice so it can travel. Do you get it now, Lili?"
When Xuelian heard that an icebreaker could actually break the ice and then sail, she immediately gave Zhao Rong a thumbs-up, thoroughly impressed. "Zhao Rong, I never would have imagined you’d buy an icebreaker! Does this mean we can all ride on it and travel unimpeded throughout the entire Arctic Circle?"
While steering the icebreaker forward, Zhao Rong said to the three women, "For now, let’s split up and keep following the assistant. When we come back, we’ll all ride this icebreaker together. What do you think?"
Upon hearing this, the three women nodded. "Zhao Rong, we’ll listen to you."
So, Zhao Rong led them as they continued to track the assistant. After a while, the assistant arrived at a grave in the snow. When Zhao Rong and the women saw him suddenly stop, they also stopped.
The three women parked their snowmobiles to the side and stood behind the assistant, watching his every move. They were curious to see what he intended to do at the grave.
Zhao Rong also got off the icebreaker and walked up behind the assistant. He took out his phone, continued to record the horrifying scene, and said, "Ladies, prepare yourselves. What happens next might make you feel quite uncomfortable."
Lili saw the assistant suddenly kneel before the grave and begin to dig. She said in utter astonishment, "What exactly is this assistant doing? Is he really going to dig a dead person out of their grave?"
At that moment, the assistant began to speak as he dug. "Juliet, we agreed to come here from Alaska on an expedition together.
"But along the way, we lost our direction and were trapped in the ice and snow.
"Juliet, you ran out of strength and collapsed. I told you to wait for me while I went to find food and look for someone to rescue us.
"But after I left, I never came back. By the time I saw you again, a year had already passed.
"Although a year went by, the perpetual ice and snow of the Arctic had preserved you, freezing you in place without any change.
"So, the members of the scientific expedition and I dug a grave and buried you. We erected a tombstone that reads, ’The Tomb of Juliet.’
"Juliet, you are my wife, and I am Romeo. Yet, I failed in my duty as a husband to protect you. I made you wait for so long in this frozen wasteland, but I never returned..."
As he spoke, the assistant finished excavating Juliet’s grave. He lifted her body out, hoisted it onto his shoulder, and started walking toward his ice shelter.
When Zhao Rong and the three women heard what the assistant had just said, they had a sudden realization.
Lili let her imagination run wild. "So, in his past life, the assistant wasn’t Chinese but an Alaskan. And his name was Romeo, while his wife was named Juliet..."
Yu Lan took a step forward. Recalling the assistant’s words, she wove them into a complete story. "In a past life, in Alaska, there was a young couple, Romeo and Juliet. They loved adventure and came to the Arctic Circle for an expedition. But as soon as they arrived, they were caught in a blizzard. Romeo and Juliet were trapped, cut off from food, water, and any supplies. Because Juliet was physically weaker, she collapsed. Her husband, Romeo, told her to wait there for him. He promised he would search for food and find other explorers in the Arctic Circle to rescue them both..."
At this point, Yu Lan couldn’t bring herself to continue.
Then, Xuelian’s imagination took over, and she picked up where Yu Lan had left off. "But after Romeo left Juliet, he never intended to return. He was a coward who only wanted to save himself, completely abandoning his wife. So, Romeo scrambled his way back to Alaska, barely surviving on algae and plants. When he returned, he wanted to forget about Juliet, the wife he had abandoned in the frozen world. However, his guilty conscience haunted him. He eventually found a scientific expedition team, returned to the Arctic Circle, and at the original location, found his wife, Juliet, frozen solid..."
As she reached this part of the story, Xuelian suddenly started to cry. She felt the story was too tragic—truly a tale of a heartless man and his devoted wife.
Just then, Zhao Rong picked up where Xuelian had left off to continue the story. But when he finished telling them what happened next, the three women were utterly dumbfounded.
