Lili grabbed the fork, stabbed it into the snow a couple of times, and, feeling nothing magical about it, spoke up.
"This is just a regular fork, the kind Westerners use for their meals. There’s nothing magical about it at all. Zhao Rong, why did you buy a simple eating utensil? How is this supposed to work against the snowman?"
Yu Lan examined the simple fork, flicking it with her finger. Hearing the crisp sound, she remarked, "This fork must be made of stainless steel. The sound is quite clear."
Xuelian inspected the fork closely, even taking out a magnifying glass. "Zhao Rong, are you sure this dinner fork is the tool you bought to deal with the snowman?"
Zhao Rong explained to the three women, "You don’t understand. This thing is a snowman harpoon forged from Meteorite Iron. It’s a specialized weapon for hunting them."
When the three women and the assistant heard that this very simple fork was a specialized weapon for dealing with the snowman, they were so astonished that they all stumbled and fell to the ground.
The assistant picked up the fork, mimicked throwing a knife, and asked Zhao Rong, "Can this fork be used like a throwing knife? When the snowman charges, can we throw this at it and kill it on the spot?"
Lili stepped forward, picked up the fork, and aimed it at the distant snowman. "Zhao Rong, I think this snowman harpoon must have a weapon hidden inside, like a silver needle. When you press a trigger on the fork, a needle shoots out and hits a vital spot, like the temple, killing it instantly."
Yu Lan believed it could discharge electricity. She said to Zhao Rong, "I think this snowman harpoon must be able to generate a current, like an electric eel. When the snowman gets close, we can just point the fork at it and release a charge. It could probably emit 360 volts of high voltage, knocking it to the ground or even electrocuting it."
Xuelian, however, disagreed. She stepped forward and asked, "Zhao Rong, since this harpoon is designed specifically for snowmen, it must have some unique feature. Please, demonstrate it for us. Let us witness for ourselves how this specialized snowman harpoon kills the creature before us."
Hearing Xuelian’s words, Zhao Rong immediately took the harpoon in hand, aimed it at the approaching snowman, and said to the three women, "Watch closely. I’m about to demonstrate how to use this specialized harpoon to deal with this behemoth charging toward us."
At that moment, the snowman had already reached their group of five. It was clearly some kind of monster, not human at all. The creature was covered in long, white fur. Although it could walk upright, it was not of the human race, but a special species that had not evolved into a modern human. The snowman was extremely hostile toward Zhao Rong and his group. It charged at them with its mouth agape and claws flailing, letting out a hair-raising shriek.
When the three women and the assistant saw the charging creature, they scrambled to hide behind Zhao Rong, screaming in terror, "Zhao Rong, do something now! If you don’t act, that thing is going to eat us!"
Just as they were worrying about being eaten, Zhao Rong used the specialized snowman harpoon. He held it firmly, aimed at the charging creature, and gently pressed a button on the handle.
"Snowman, surrender."
Before Zhao Rong had even finished speaking, a large net shot out from the harpoon, enveloping the fiercely charging snowman and binding it tightly.
When the three women and the assistant saw an incredibly large and sturdy net fly out of what looked like a dinner fork, they were stunned speechless. They stared in disbelief and exclaimed, "Zhao Rong, that’s amazing! How could such a large net fly out of a simple fork?"
Lili, finding it incredible, said, "I just can’t figure out how such a large net was packed inside this metal fork."
Yu Lan guessed, "Maybe the fork itself is hollow? That must be why it could hide such a big net inside."
Xuelian walked toward the netted snowman. "I want to see exactly what species this is and solve one of the world’s ten greatest unsolved mysteries."
But when Xuelian got close to the snowman, she was utterly stunned. "Zhao Rong, come look!" she said in amazement. "Why does this snowman look so much like a Neanderthal?"
Hearing the word "Neanderthals," Zhao Rong immediately came over. "That’s impossible," he said in disbelief. "The Neanderthals were wiped out by our ancestors long ago. Could a group of them have survived? Did they cross the Bering Strait during the Little Ice Age and make their way to the Arctic Circle to live here?"
Saying this, Zhao Rong walked up to the snowman and carefully examined its features. After a close look, he was astonished to find that while the creature bore some resemblance to a Neanderthal, it wasn’t one. It was covered in long fur and was extremely tall. The snowman had a nose and eyes, but its mouth was very small. It had a slender neck, a large belly, thick legs, and massive feet.
Just then, Zhao Rong suddenly pulled out a syringe and drew blood from the captive snowman.
When the three women and the assistant saw him drawing blood, they asked in confusion, "Zhao Rong, why are you taking its blood? Are you planning to have it tested?"
