Chapter 1079: Chapter 755: Grand Finale [26] Academia
"Got it."
April Thomason looked at her, saw she was good-looking, and decided not to argue. Instead, she called someone over to help with Pedro Langley’s luggage.
Nora Scott didn’t object to this.
April said, "Let’s go first. The sandstorm is pretty big later, and it’s inconvenient to take a shower here."
"Okay."
Nora agreed.
With nothing in her hands, Nora held Pedro Langley’s hand and walked together towards the campsite near Maze Village.
April: "..." Unexpectedly fed a mouthful of dog food.
Although Maze Village has ready-made accommodations, the terrain of Maze Village changes daily. It’s truly difficult for ordinary people to rely on memory to enter and exit, and even with a map, it’s inconvenient and not suitable for living. On the other hand, when it’s time for Nora and others to start the Mechanism City entrance, they definitely can’t stay in Maze Village.
It’s better to camp directly outside Maze Village to avoid moving around later—troublesome.
Save time and manpower costs.
But—
Because there are many participants in this project, at first glance, the campsite is quite impressive.
Moreover, some are wearing uniforms, and some aren’t.
"We have three camps here." April led them toward the campsite while explaining to them, "Actually, two are our own camps, and one is like us, an official... oh no, I’m no longer official, just considered part of the participants, here to join the fun."
Nora: "..." You’re quite confident.
"Our group here does the manual labor, handling daily patrols and guarding against clueless people approaching. Meanwhile, we protect the safety and daily needs of the other two groups—serving the people."
"Mm."
Nora responded perfunctorily.
Afterward, April glanced at Pedro Langley before saying, "The second group is your husband’s group. He’s brought technical personnel and equipment, along with some of our official technical staff, responsible for filming Mechanism City."
"Mm."
Nora had already understood this before coming.
However—
Squinting against the wind and sand, Nora asked, "The third group should be Hardy Rivers’ group. Why isn’t it in our own camp?"
"It’s a long story."
April shrugged.
Nora furrowed her brows suspiciously.
Recently, she has been researching the Mechanism City entrance, unconcerned with other matters, leaving it to Fátima, Pedro Langley, Hardy Rivers, and others to handle. So, besides the project’s research progress, she remains clueless about everything else.
"Originally, the project’s progress was only managed by Hardy Rivers’ group," Pedro Langley, knowing more than her, explained, "but since Annabelle Pinto made it public, the message couldn’t be stifled. It’s not online, but privately many people are aware. So, some in the academic community took advantage and wanted a share."
Nora raised an eyebrow, "Is that possible?"
Pedro Langley replied, "Those academic bigwigs always have some skills."
"Fátima and Hardy Rivers wanted to stop them, but their fields are different, so they lack authority. Moreover, the academic group has somehow convinced the higher-ups and forcibly joined." April frowned tightly, "Eh, and they act all high and mighty, thinking we’re just foot soldiers. They have plenty of complaints, making serving them a hassle."
"..."
Nora’s eyes grew slightly cold.
"Fátima said, don’t bother with them. Don’t live with them, just wait on our side until the date arrives." April continued, "As for those wanting to take advantage, she’ll find a way to get rid of them."
However, Nora chose not to stay in April’s comfy nest but instead got a bit interested.
She flexed her wrist and said, "I’ll stay over there."
"Huh?"
April froze for a moment.
"I want to meet them," Nora said.
Pedro Langley lightly furrowed his brows, "Your situation is special now; it’s best not to make unnecessary moves."
Nora asked him, "Aren’t you staying with me?"
Pedro Langley: "..."
He would certainly keep her safe.
But,
He preferred to ensure nothing went wrong.
However, due to some changes after their last breakup regarding the "ensuring nothing goes wrong" concept, Pedro Langley realized Nora wasn’t the type to stay comfortably and watch a bunch of annoying people act out. So after pondering slightly, he agreed to her decision.
"There’s one condition," Pedro Langley’s voice deepened, emphasizing, "Before doing anything, let me know first."
"Then I’ll go over too." April rubbed her hands eagerly, "Anyway, I’m free to go to any camp."
Nora asked, "Can you read the map?"
"..."
Sorry, I quit.
April was instantly discouraged.
Sighing, April lamented her lack of new fun, then led them around and first showed the comfortable tent she prepared. Afterward, she took the two for a stroll around her own camp and the neighboring camp, finally leading them to the third camp.
Upon arriving at the third camp, April put on a dismissive attitude and casually introduced, "Here it is."
Looking around, Nora remarked, "Isn’t this environment much better than what you prepared?"
April: "..." No taste!
Since April’s camp consisted of rough guys who prioritize simplicity and order, they don’t pursue material comforts—the living environment just needs to be clean and simple. However, the third camp likely spent quite a bit, having everything, even the tents, upgraded by several levels.
Distinct contrast, evident at a glance.
"The sandstorm is arriving soon, don’t stay outside, quickly find a place to hide!" A guy in a uniform passed by and shouted at them.
April replied to him and then said to Nora and Pedro Langley, "This sandstorm won’t last long, let’s hide in their main tent for a while and greet them."
"Okay."
Nora nodded.
Pedro Langley had no objections.
