Chapter 1071: Chapter 747: Grand Finale [18] Approval Document

After listening to Nora Scott’s analysis, Oliver Scott barely said a word along the way.

On the road, Nora got out of the car to buy him breakfast; he quietly finished it as well.

Nowhere near as sunny and cheerful as usual.

At eight forty, Nora drove the car to the school gate.

"Sis, we’re heading in."

Oliver said to Nora, reaching for the door handle to get out.

"Wait."

Nora suddenly called him back.

Oliver’s movement paused.

"If you let yourself be affected by her, then this battle is already lost for you." Nora turned her head, fixed her eyes on him, and said word by word, "There is nothing worth trading your future for."

Oliver was stunned for a moment.

Then he smiled slightly. "Okay."

Just a light, offhand sentence, yet enough to make a person suddenly see the light and let go of the grudges hidden deep in their heart.

Alma Ferreira’s matter needed an ending.

But—

That would be after the college entrance exam.

He shouldn’t waste this chance Nora and the others had fought to win for him.

He got out of the car together with Marcus Shaw.

In the car, Nora watched the two of them walk away. The boy’s back was bathed in sunlight, tall and straight, no longer as skinny and frail as a year ago. At some point, his frame had grown into the shape of someone who could hold up the sky.

Nora’s lips quirked.

It ought to end, one way or another.

*

Alma Ferreira was taken to the hospital.

For her, it was nothing more than having fallen asleep.

She had calculated the timing long ago.

Even without Nora and the others showing up, Oliver would wake up soon after. Oliver, who was supposed to be rushing to take the college entrance exam, would open his eyes and see Alma with slit wrists and charcoal burning; he was bound to be terrified.

Given Oliver’s temperament, he wouldn’t turn a blind eye to Alma; he would send her to the hospital at once. And if Oliver chose to go to the exam, he would still first get Alma onto the ambulance. What state he’d be in for the test would be anyone’s guess, but he definitely wouldn’t perform all that well.

Alma had staged this whole act with bad intentions from the start.

She just wanted to shackle Oliver on the moral level.

But, what she never factored into all her calculations was that a single form of address—"Marcus Shaw"—would expose her intent, and Nora and the others arriving in time would greatly ease this "moral blackmail" she tried to put on Oliver.

At the same time, it also completely severed the relationship between her and Oliver.

...

Nora waited outside the exam site for several hours. When Oliver and Marcus finished and she heard that both of them had performed normally, she finally breathed a bit easier. Then she took the two brothers for lunch nearby and sent them to the hotel she’d booked in advance so they could have a proper nap.

Only then did she have the bandwidth to call Pedro Langley.

"How did the two of them do on the test?" Pedro asked.

Nora said, "Rumor has it their condition was pretty good."

"Good."

"What about Alma?"

"I hear she’s already awake and is screaming her lungs out in the ward, demanding to see her son," Pedro said unhurriedly. "I had someone record a video. If you’re interested, I can send it to you."

"No need." Nora rejected him without even thinking, then asked, "Where are you?"

"Helping her get in touch with a psychiatrist."

"..."

"I was going to pull a few strings, but after the doctor assessed her mental state, it turns out we can just go through the formal process and have her admitted directly into a psychiatric hospital for recuperation," Pedro said. "Ernesto Scott is currently making a huge scene at the Ferreira Family’s place. In the short term, Alma is unlikely to get out of the psych ward."

After Nora had taken Oliver and Marcus away, Pedro notified Ernesto Scott immediately.

After all, no matter how you looked at it, this was not Pedro’s problem to solve.

Ernesto Scott really delivered. Once he understood what had happened, he rushed straight to the Ferreira Family and started making trouble. The entire Ferreira household had been thrown into chaos by him; word was, Old Lord Ferreira had already downed a bottle of extra-strength heart medicine.

Ernesto’s goal was to force the Ferreira Family to publicly acknowledge that Alma had a mental illness, completely ruining her reputation in their social circle, and then make the family willingly send her to a psychiatric hospital.

If the Ferreira Family didn’t agree—

First, the Ferreira Family would go bankrupt.

Second, Alma would go to prison.

The two came as a package; you couldn’t pick just one.

After briefly laying out Ernesto’s objectives, Pedro added, "If we sue Alma for attempted murder, the procedures would be too cumbersome and the sentence wouldn’t be very long. Besides, the Ferreira Family will definitely find ways to harass Oliver. Getting her into the hospital as soon as possible will at least keep her from coming out and causing more trouble."

"Mm." Nora had no objections, and even very considerately said, "Pick a ’better’ hospital. She is still Oliver’s biological mother."

"Of course."

Pedro agreed without hesitation.

Even if Nora hadn’t said it, Pedro would have handled it properly.

And judging from the Ferreira Family’s attitude, once they admitted Alma had a mental illness, they’d draw a clear line between themselves and her to avoid getting splattered with infamy. After that, what kind of treatment Alma received in the hospital, the Ferreira Family would most likely not interfere with.

"Then you take care of it." Sitting in the car with one leg crossed over the other, Nora played with a pair of sunglasses in her hand, looking every inch the successful female CEO lazily issuing orders. "I only want the result."

"...At your service."

Pedro cooperated very smoothly.

But the next second, his tone shifted. "Get some real rest and stop worrying about things you don’t have to."

"..."

Nora didn’t get to enjoy her roleplay as much as she wanted, so she was a bit displeased and hung up.

But—

In less than two minutes, her phone buzzed again.

She’d thought it was Pedro calling back, but when she glanced at the screen, Nora raised an eyebrow and had the urge to throw her phone.

—It was her senior sister, who never came to the temple for no reason.

She’d taken leave these two days; her senior sister shouldn’t be contacting her.

After thinking for a moment, Nora answered, "Senior Sister."

"The approval from above just came down."

"Hm?"

Nora was taken aback.

Fátima said crisply, "We go to Maze Village at the end of this month to open the entrance to Mechanism City."

"That fast?"

"Yeah."

"What about the wedding?" Nora narrowed her eyes a little.

She and Fátima were holding a joint wedding next month. All four families had basically finished preparations, and the invitations had already gone out.

"What wedding?"

Fátima reflexively asked.

Just as Nora was rendered speechless, Fátima seemed to remember and said carelessly, "It’s only a day or two. We’ll just squeeze it in somewhere."

Nora: "..."

You might be a workaholic who squeezes in time for a wedding; she, on the other hand, is planning to set aside a whole month for the honeymoon!
