Chapter 1068: Chapter 744: Grand Finale [15] Rescue
"He basically never calls me by my name."
Ever since Oliver and Marcus Shaw, these ’half-brothers,’ had reunited, Oliver had mostly referred to Marcus as "bro," unless he was upset with Marcus or in extreme situations.
In these everyday situations, Oliver always had "bro" on his lips.
Yesterday’s conversation had no address, so Marcus hadn’t noticed anything unusual.
Until just now.
Nora slightly raised an eyebrow and said, "Call him now."
"Okay."
Marcus answered with a single word, and the call was already being made.
But it rang until the end with no one answering.
Of course, no one hung up either.
The three exchanged looks.
Two minutes later, the phone vibrated, and a message came from Oliver.
[Oliver]: Having breakfast, what’s up?
Marcus showed the message to Nora and Pedro.
Nora glanced at it and immediately made a decision, "Let’s go."
"Where to?" Pedro stopped her.
"To find Oliver." Nora took out her phone and said, "I had Biel Hall look into Alma Ferreira’s property last night. There’s only one place matching Oliver’s description of the environment. We’ll go straight there."
Nora was always very cautious once she set her mind on something.
She appeared carefree, but in reality, she had thought through everything.
Even if she didn’t think Alma Ferreira would hold Oliver back from taking his exams, she still had Biel Hall investigate Alma’s residence, then identified the location based on Oliver’s usual description.
—So that if anything unexpected happened, they could get there in time.
—Nora had long been prepared for the "rescue mission."
"Wait a minute."
Pedro stopped her.
Then, he said to Marcus, "Finish your breakfast first, then have Butler Loxley take you to the exam venue. Don’t worry about this."
"I’m going with you." Marcus said seriously.
Pedro paused.
Nora didn’t hesitate, "Then we go together."
"..."
Pedro glanced over.
"Half-brothers sticking together through thick and thin, isn’t that how it should be?" Nora asked matter-of-factly, noticing Pedro’s surprise.
"What if you’re late?" Pedro frowned.
It was already tricky enough with just Oliver.
Now, bringing Marcus along could mean losing both if they got delayed.
These brothers worked hard for three years for this one exam, didn’t they?
Last night, Nora was so worried she couldn’t sleep, but today she casually brought Marcus along.
—She really was something.
"He’s an adult, capable of making decisions for himself." Nora said, and then glanced at Marcus, "Isn’t that right?"
"Yeah."
Marcus nodded.
He had studied with Oliver for so long.
He didn’t feel like sitting the exam unless he saw Oliver enter the exam hall himself.
Besides—
Marcus and Nora were actually quite similar; they didn’t take the exam too seriously. He prepared diligently only because of something Nora said to Anastasia when parents were first called to school.
—If society judged students based on their academic performance and parents based on their education, then he would follow this unwritten rule to give Nora something to be proud of.
"Then let’s go." Nora said simply, "Grab some breakfast to eat on the way."
"Okay."
Marcus casually grabbed two buns and a cup of warm milk. He downed the milk in one go.
Pedro: "..."
These carefree siblings, he was genuinely impressed.
To prevent Nora from driving recklessly due to unstable emotions, Pedro volunteered to drive and took the siblings straight to the address Nora provided.
*
Alma Ferreira had several properties in Fenton City.
However, the place Oliver was taken to was a residential area, quite upscale, with very strict security. Vehicles in and out needed to be checked, and visitors required the homeowner’s permission to enter.
"Landlord, is this your turf?" Nora yawned, having napped in the car, and awoke slowly as she saw the neighborhood gate.
Pedro took a moment, responding, "No."
"..."
Nora gave him a long look.
Pedro furrowed his brow, "What’s with that look?"
"How come you don’t have even this kind of hack?" Nora retorted.
Can’t the domineering president persona come through just this once?!
Pedro: "..." Did she think everyone was enveloped by the "protagonist halo" like her?!
"Should we jump the wall?"
From the back seat, Marcus suddenly spoke up.
Nora said, "There’s an electric fence."
If it were possible to jump the wall, she would have chosen that route.
"I can hack into the neighborhood system and cut the power." Marcus said calmly.
Nora: "..."
Pedro: "..."
This time, it seemed the hack was on Marcus.
There was a computer in the car, so they didn’t need to look elsewhere. However, just as Pedro parked the car on the roadside and Marcus was waiting for the laptop to boot up—
"Knock, knock, knock."
The driver’s side window was tapped.
A security guard who had been patrolling near the neighborhood gate had, for some reason, wandered over, bent slightly, peering inside, holding a walkie-talkie and a stun baton, ready for anything unexpected.
Pedro and Nora exchanged a glance.
Then, Nora said, "Open it."
Anyway, they hadn’t started any "guilty" actions yet, so they didn’t need to be sneaky.
Pedro, helpless, rolled down the window. A breeze blew in, brushing past them, as the security guard leaned his face close to the window.
"Who are you looking for, stopping here——"
The guard started to question them officially.
However, upon seeing Nora in the passenger seat, he swallowed all his words quickly.
