Chapter 789: Chapter 760: Gage Grant vs. Maeve [022]

Gage Grant hung up the phone, tossed a towel over his shoulder, and walked towards Maeve.

He bent down and hugged her from behind, kissed her ear, and asked softly, "Want to take a shower?"

Maeve tensed up for a moment, stiffly stood up, walked to the wardrobe, picked up her pajamas, and went into the bathroom.

She locked the door tightly, a subconscious action.

Even though she knew that besides her, Gage Grant must have other women, hearing him speak to someone else in that emotional tone that was more intimate than intimacy still made her feel somewhat uncomfortable.

The companionship and protection this man could offer her now would eventually disappear. If she were to sink into this, then his departure would be her time of no return.

Maeve looked at herself in the mirror, shook her head, and pushed away the chaotic thoughts lingering in her mind.

...

After showering, she came out to find Gage Grant leaning against the headboard, looking at his phone and smiling. When he saw her approach, he patted the spot next to him, "Come here."

She obediently walked over and lay beside him. He put away his phone and turned off the light. In the darkness, he pulled her into his arms and kissed her...

-

The next morning, Gage Grant accompanied Maeve throughout the whole day, and finally completed the transfer of the villa in the afternoon. Diana Dalton and the others moved out that night.

He brought in people to immediately change all the locks on the villa’s main gate and garden iron doors to the latest smart locks, and installed surveillance and alarm systems in every corner of the villa.

While Gage Grant was busy inside the villa overseeing the installations, Maeve was in the room, showered, peacefully playing guitar for a while. After a day of hustle, she felt tired and went to bed early.

Gage Grant busied himself until midnight before coming in, took a shower, and quietly got into bed, pulling her into his arms. Perhaps due to the exhausting day, he didn’t disturb her that night. Holding her, he soon fell asleep.

When Maeve woke the next day, Gage Grant was still asleep. She washed up, left the room, and took a stroll around the villa to check the installation of the surveillance equipment. Content with what she saw, she felt much more at ease.

While cooking noodles, she searched online for hourly workers, intending to have someone thoroughly clean every corner of the house today.

Several hourly workers arrived quickly, and just as Maeve finished her breakfast, she explained the cleaning requirements and specifically instructed them to clean the room with the closed door on the second floor last.

Because Gage Grant was still sleeping. She knew he must have been busy late into the night yesterday, so she was considerate and didn’t disturb him.

Thus, Gage Grant slept until two in the afternoon.

When he got up, saw the room was empty, he didn’t even wash his face, wearing boxers, he opened the door to find Maeve, only to be face-to-face with the hourly worker cleaning the small living room.

The hourly workers were all seasoned women over forty, used to such things, and greeted him openly, "Good afternoon, sir."

Startled, Gage Grant quickly retreated back into the room.

He dressed downstairs, passing the Buddha room, and saw Maeve kneeling on the mat, chanting scriptures.

He stood by the door for a while, watching her take her time, and eventually headed to the kitchen for food.

The kitchen was clean, not a trace of fresh food. Instead, the fridge stored some ready-to-eat bird’s nest; hungry, he took a bowl, opened it, and sat down in the dining room to eat.

While eating, Maeve entered, saw him eating cold bird’s nest, and asked, "Why didn’t you call me, I could make you some noodles."

Gage Grant smiled awkwardly at the mention of noodles again, "Bird’s nest is fine, it’s good to eat on an empty stomach, beautifies skin."

"If you like it, eat more. Otherwise, I will clear out the fridge later; everything in there belongs to Diana Dalton."

At her words, Gage Grant stood up and took a look inside the fridge.

Inside the massive double-door fridge were not only bird’s nest but also various expensive dried goods and tonics. Diana Dalton, being wealthy and enjoying life, regularly stored these items in the fridge, which was no surprise.

After closing the fridge door, he laughed and said, "Nothing seems wrong with the items; don’t throw them away. Keep them for yourself; they’re good for health."

Maeve’s face fell, and she said angrily, "I don’t want to use anything of hers! It’s disgusting to see!"

This was the first time Gage Grant saw her act like a kitten, her claws bared. It amused him; he found it amusing, holding her in his arms while soothingly saying, "Alright, alright, don’t use her stuff, tonight I’ll take you shopping, buy more, fill your fridge up, and make you gain weight."

After saying this, he thought of something and asked, "From what I see in this fridge, all appliances in this house should be replaced with new ones! What do you think?"

Maeve laughed in exasperation, pressed against his chest, and pulled away from him, smiling, "No need, many appliances were bought when my dad was alive, it’s not like they were bought by her."

Maeve rarely smiled at Gage Grant; she was always cool and indifferent. Her smile melted Gage Grant’s heart.

Unable to resist, he held her up and walked upstairs. On the second floor, the hourly workers were still busy, Maeve feeling a bit embarrassed, buried her face in his neck.

...

After showering, Maeve stood before the bathroom mirror, applying toner.

"When are you leaving?"

Gage Grant wrapped a towel around himself and stepped out of the shower, saying, "It’s Friday, anyway I don’t have work on the weekend, so I’ll go back Sunday afternoon."

Meaning he would stay two entire days?

Maeve felt a headache coming.

Gage Grant had come over on Tuesday night, it was now Friday, a total of four days and three nights; she had figured out his pattern, almost every day, without fail.

She wasn’t sure she could endure another two days; lacking confidence, her body cried out for help.

She was naturally frail, thus thin. In recent years, living alone in a foreign city, poorly fed, unable to sleep well. Sometimes, when busy, she hadn’t slept for as long as three days and nights, such a body couldn’t withstand a whole week’s draining. Continuing like this, she might lose her life.

Maeve pondered finding an excuse to send Gage Grant away. She thought about it from morning to evening but couldn’t come up with a good plan. With the entire day gone, she thought she might try again tomorrow; asking someone to drive on the highway late at night wasn’t an option.

Saturday came, and still, she couldn’t think of anything. As the weekend approached, Maeve decided to let things take their course, thinking she could recover once Gage Grant left.

Predictably, Saturday night, Gage Grant once again bothered her the whole night; perhaps a bit heartbroken over leaving, knowing he would leave tomorrow, his antics were especially ruthless, lasting the entire night until dawn before letting her go.

After everything, he fell into a deep sleep, while Maeve felt increasingly unwell, tossing and turning uncomfortably in bed. When she got up to use the bathroom, she realized she was bleeding.
