Chapter 723: Chapter 694: Love in a Parallel Universe [016]
Seth Sutton wanted to drive Sienna Thorne home, but she didn’t agree. Since she’d already turned him down, she felt it best to stop everything here and not trouble anyone to drive her home.
Nearly strangers, the man and woman sitting together in a cramped car for nearly an hour would be quite torturous.
Seth went directly to the basement to get his car. She left the hotel lobby to wait for a taxi by the roadside.
There wasn’t a single star in the night sky today, suggesting it would certainly snow tomorrow.
The weather forecast said the first snow of the year would come early, just in these few days.
Sienna gathered her coat closer. At first, she was thinking about how to explain the night’s events to her parents when she got home, and the more she thought about it, the more she thought of Simon Forrester.
If Simon Forrester had indeed been sitting behind her, listening to her conversation with Seth Sutton, then he definitely knew she had come for a blind date. If he still showed no interest, doesn’t it mean he really has no interest in her?
Judging from the lack of contact since he returned from abroad, Sienna felt to Simon, she was merely a fellow expat encountered abroad.
Compared to Simon’s calm and rational demeanor, she had often indulged in wishful thinking.
Ah.
Sienna was reminiscing about her first secret crush when a black Volvo pulled up in front of her from the hotel. She instinctively took a step to the side, and the Volvo edged forward a little with her.
The passenger window rolled down slowly, and Simon Forrester’s excessively handsome face caught her off guard, entering her vision.
Her heart skipped a beat as she watched him get out of the car, walk around to the passenger side, and open the door for her. "I’ll give you a ride home."
She was so nervous her heart was about to leap out of her chest, but she still tried to be polite, "I can just take a taxi home."
He smiled at her, "Really not going to sit in my car?"
Her face blushed, and she clutched the straps of her bag with her hands, nibbling her lips. "Then I’ll trouble you," she said as she bent over and got into the passenger seat, her face red as she watched Simon Forrester’s silhouette as he walked past the front of the car.
He was dressed very formally today, wearing a navy three-piece suit, a white French shirt, a dark blue tie and pocket square, and his hair was neatly brushed to one side. He looked serious and quite elite, different from when he was in London.
"Thunk," the car door closed, the sound muffled.
The man cleared his throat lightly.
Even though Sienna was avoiding looking at him, she could still feel his presence beside her.
The air seemed to thin as he entered this small world.
Her whole body felt hot, her heart race, her hands clutched tightly to her bag straps, and she stared straight ahead.
The car interior was silent, and after a while, the car was still parked by the roadside.
Sienna glanced at Simon Forrester from the corner of her eye.
One of his hands was resting on the steering wheel, his body slightly turned, as if he were also looking at her.
A few seconds later, he leaned slowly towards her.
She widened her eyes as she watched Simon Forrester’s handsome face magnify before her...
She could clearly smell the scent of fir on him, and in her tense, rigid state, she let out a small "mm" sound.
Simon Forrester’s face was getting closer and closer to her...
Is he going to kiss...?
She closed her eyes nervously.
"Your seatbelt isn’t buckled." freёwebnovel.com
???
She suddenly opened her eyes, and Simon Forrester had already pulled the seatbelt from her right side, buckling it into the left clasp.
Ugh, how embarrassing!!!
Simon Forrester buckled her seatbelt and asked for her home address before the car merged onto the main road.
Sienna blushed, feeling defeated.
She thought she was extremely foolish, and Simon Forrester surely laughed at her infatuation and wishful thinking in his heart.
Ugh! I want to die!
...
The car left the city center and sped towards the western suburbs.
After a long silence, after saying "your seatbelt isn’t buckled," Simon Forrester asked his third question: "Did you come to The Imperial for a case tonight?"
She turned her head to look at him.
The light from the cars shone through the windshield, casting ever-shifting shadows on his face.
Under his high-set brow, his eyes were deep, and every time she seemed to fall into them.
The small car interior felt like a tiny world, where only he and she existed.
The warm air carried his unique scent. Sienna heard the sound of her heart beating wildly for him.
Perhaps he didn’t like her; perhaps they would never have any further interactions. But she still hoped that her feelings for him could be heard. If there was no response, then once out of the car, she could let herself go.
She had had enough of this month, being so absent-minded over him, and she didn’t have the patience nor time to meticulously plan for this man to like her; she wanted a quick resolve.
Once those words were said, if rejected, she would still be herself once out of the car.
She felt she had never been this rational.
"Mr. Forrester..."
Simon Forrester turned slightly to look at her with a smile: "Hmm?"
She looked at the pleasant curve of his lips and softened her voice, "I like you."
Having said this, she felt completely relaxed. After this, she would not need to painfully pine for him anymore.
The car continued to race down West Suburb Avenue. He focused on the road, silent, but the smile at his lips grew deeper.
In those quiet seconds, she got her answer from his reactions.
It seemed like there was no hope...
She felt a little hurt.
"I’ll pretend I didn’t hear what you said just now, and you should forget it too," he said.
His voice was gentle, but internally, she felt a great upheaval.
She wanted to cry.
Even though she had mentally prepared herself, at the moment of rejection, she still felt so sad she wanted to cry.
Is this what heartbreak feels like?
Her nasal cavity gradually became sour, and her eyes heated up, with a mass of tears gathering inside.
She bit her lower lip hard, forcing herself to widen her eyes upwards, unwilling to cry in front of him.
The girl’s fair, delicate fingers tightly gripped the small bag on her lap, knuckles turning white, her hand trembling slightly.
Simon Forrester glanced at her, lowered his voice, and spoke patiently, "We’ve only met a few times. It’s too rash to be sure of your feelings. What if I were a bad person? You’d be at a loss."
She pursed her lips, lowering her eyes, as a few teardrops fell on her bag.
He wasn’t wrong, after all.
Even though he claimed he didn’t have a girlfriend, it didn’t mean he didn’t have someone he liked or a potential fiancé. Yet she had confessed so abruptly; if he intended to toy with her, she would indeed get hurt.
So sad...
The car entered the old villa area of the western suburbs. Simon Forrester slowed the car, focusing on the road ahead: "Let me know when we arrive."
"Okay."
He turned his head to glance at her, seeing her red-rimmed eyes, and gently said, "Get some rest tonight."
"Okay."
The car went on a little further.
"By the red wall beside that locust tree up ahead," the girl’s voice was heavy with emotion.
The car then turned around and stopped outside the red villa.
Sienna said, "Thank you, take care on your way back." Before he could speak, she quickly opened the car door and got out as fast as she could.
"Bang—"
Simon Forrester followed her out of the car.
Her actions to find her keys sped up, but the more anxious she became, the harder it was to find them.
Quentin Thorne, who was watching TV in the living room, saw through the sliding doors that a car was parked at the house entrance, and a man got out of the car with his daughter. He quickly opened the door to take a look.
