The situation turned in an instant.
Walker, who had been walking toward them, froze. With lightning speed, he raised his handgun and aimed it at the man holding Chloe.

Back in college, their love was new and innocent. She’d been overjoyed when he accepted her confession, and then shocked when he’d abruptly declared he wanted to be with her forever.
She’d been so surprised at the time, her face flushing crimson. She’d even wondered if he was being a little reckless.

She still remembered the shy, tentative beginnings of their relationship, and their first kiss.
It was on a rainy day. They were leaving the library together. Other students were scrambling back to the dorms, but they were huddled under a single umbrella. Rain drummed against the canopy, creating a curtain that separated them from the rest of the world.

He laughed, then leaned in and kissed her back. One kiss wasn’t enough, so he gave her another.
"Alright, then. Must be my imagination. But I really do want to kiss you."
