Chapter 606: Chapter 606: Something Is Very Wrong With Him
The helicopter’s rotor blades droned, and his words were so soft they seemed to drift away in the air.
Chloe Reed’s brow furrowed. After fastening the last button, she began to familiarize herself with the construction and weight of the gun.
She offered no response to his words.
They had agreed from the start that this was just a transaction.
And if it was a transaction, nothing else should be a factor.
Every time she considered the divorce, she couldn’t help but remember the past.
’It wasn’t about forgiving him once; it was about remembering every single time he had hurt her.’
Silence fell over the helicopter, broken only by the occasional sound of Walker Grant’s suppressed coughs.
He seemed to be holding back, as if afraid to disturb her.
Chloe Reed glanced at him. "You don’t have to hold it in," she said. "If you feel sick, just cough it out."
Walker Grant said nothing, simply closing his eyes.
They flew for a long time, until Chloe Reed felt her eardrums grow numb. She looked down and saw they were over a vast jungle.
She turned to Walker Grant, about to ask a question, when she noticed his face had grown even paler. "How are you feeling?"
Time was short, and he was in such a terrible state.
Unable to restrain herself, she reached out and touched his forehead. It was frighteningly hot.
Her pupils contracted. She quickly moved to his side. "Walker Grant, you have a fever! Your forehead is burning up. You need a doctor. We should land here, right now!"
Walker Grant’s eyelashes fluttered before his eyes opened. Seeing her right in front of him, he reached out and gently touched her face.
"So it’s not a dream," he rasped. "It’s really you, worrying about me." His voice was so hoarse it was painful to hear.
A pang hit Chloe Reed’s heart as a bitter, painful feeling washed over her. She pressed her lips together before speaking again. "Let’s land now. We need to find a doctor. Something’s seriously wrong with you."
"Chloe."
Walker Grant ignored her, his gaze fixed on her. His long, dark eyes were filled with an intoxicating depth of emotion.
"If—"
"No ifs!"
Chloe Reed cut him off.
Her expression was exceptionally grave, her tone severe. "Walker Grant, look at the time! Why are you still worried about such unimportant things? You can think about all that after you’re sure you’ll live! Right now, you’re on the verge of death. Can you please stop thinking about it?!"
’She was frantic and exasperated. How could he be in this state and still not give a damn about himself?’
It was then that she noticed the strong scent of medicine clinging to him. It wasn’t the kind from cold and fever medication, but the distinct smell of antiseptic and bandages from a treated wound.
Chloe Reed’s fine brows knitted together. Her eyes scanned his body, and she wanted to open his shirt to see if he was hurt.
But before she could, he grabbed her hand.
"Chloe, can’t you just let me finish?" Walker Grant’s voice was tinged with resignation, and so soft that she had to lean in close to hear him over the din of the rotor blades. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
She looked at his pale, handsome face and, after a moment of silence, suddenly leaned in and kissed the corner of his mouth. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
"Anything else to say now?"
Walker Grant froze. He stared at her, dumbfounded. He never, ever imagined she would be the one to kiss him.
