Chapter 1171: Chapter 1171: What Must Be Done
"Do you have other things to do? Don’t forget your promise; we came today specifically for Pei Yan!" Ivan’s face turned extremely grim upon hearing Bai Ze’s words, and his tone became noticeably impolite.
"Want to kill Pei Yan? Look at the pursuers behind us; can we do it if they aren’t taken care of? Don’t forget, there are two Children of Origin from the Dragon Realm protecting Pei Yan. If they catch us from the front and back, we’ll be the ones in trouble! Also, don’t forget that I am the commander of this operation," Bai Ze retracted his gaze from the pursuers behind them, glaring fiercely at Ivan as he scolded him.
"What should we do next?" Compared to Ivan, Nero was already used to Bai Ze’s mysterious ways of handling matters, and he didn’t overly concern himself with the issue regarding Pei Yan.
Bai Ze looked at Nero, smiling, "Whether we succeed now depends on you; remember how the teacher told you to find any means to absorb Saraf’s bloodline?"
"Hmm!" Nero nodded, knowing the upcoming matters would relate to him, and casually responded.
"Release it! Sense within this Dragon Realm for the bloodline aura most similar to yours and lock onto its position."
Vaguely guessing Bai Ze’s intentions, Nero’s lips curled into a smirk as he closed his eyes, activating the Saraf bloodline he had absorbed and began searching within the Dragon Realm. After a moment, he opened his eyes and said, "In this Dragon Palace, there are two Saraf bloodline auras. One is extremely weak, seemingly asleep, while the other, although just as faint, became excited upon detecting my bloodline aura probe, intermittently calling out to my inspection."
"The former should be the current Saraf, and I don’t care whether he lives or dies! Where is the second aura located?" Bai Ze pondered for a moment before asking.
"Over there!"
"Let’s go!" Bai Ze looked in the direction Nero pointed and charged ahead, leading the way.
"Clan Leader, they’ve changed direction!"
Chasing persistently behind Bai Ze and the others, having already avoided several short-distance space jumps and leaving behind some subordinates to intercept, Phoenix watched as Bai Ze and the group began carelessly rushing around like headless flies, suddenly identified a target, and dashed after them. Phoenix muttered to herself in concern, asking, "Phoenix Feather, has the location of Pei Yan been relayed back?"
"My lord, this is confidential; the young lady never divulged anything to the clan," the confidant beside her replied softly.
"I don’t even know what this little girl is guarding against. If the Ancestral God fears some within the clan would be displeased with the Young Clan Leader, secrecy might be warranted. But can it be that this girl doesn’t trust even her own grandfather?" Phoenix shook her head with a sigh, her tone laced three parts reproach and seven parts doting, then looked up towards the direction where Bai Ze and the others were fleeing, her expression turning stern as she ordered, "Whether or not they’re going to find Pei Yan, I can’t allow them to continue their reckless slaughter inside this Dragon Palace. Pursue them with all our might and ensure they are captured or killed."
"Yes!"
Constantly, guards rushed out in front to block them, while the pursuers led by Phoenix followed relentlessly from behind. Some of Bai Ze’s followers stayed behind to combat and fell behind in battles, being surrounded and killed by Dragon Realm guards. The remaining ones, still able to keep up, were undoubtedly the elite among elites, yet even they, excluding the Five Sons of Origin, bore injuries and exhaustion. The Blood Slaughter Legion was better, as their loyalty to the Candle Dragon ensured obedience, but the elders of the Dark Race, having fought all the way here, began to feel hesitant and dissatisfied facing relentless familial hostility and an apparent dead-end predicament.
Bai Ze paid no heed to this rebellious sentiment, continuously urging Nero to keep releasing the bloodline aura and confirming that responding presence’s precise location.
"This is the place!"
"Are you sure?" After circling the entire Dragon Palace, Bai Ze looked at the unremarkable mound by the picturesque Spirit Mountain and water, turning to Nero, who had led them back, and asked.
"The aura is issuing from this area, but it appears to be blocked by something, continuously flickering indistinctly. I wasn’t sure if it was here earlier, only finding the aura’s response suddenly quickened as I passed over this spot, and it grew particularly strong when I doubled back," Nero explained.
After hearing Nero’s explanation, Bai Ze nodded, muttering to himself, "Then it must be here."
"Whatever you plan to do, it’s best to be quick because they’re coming!" As Phoenix and the others, who had pursued unstoppably thus far, finally trapped Bai Ze and his group inside this canyon, Fafnir, in the crowd, looking at the Divine Dragon Guards of the Dragon Realm eyeing them like prey ready to tear them to shreds, said dejectedly.
"Hold them off, just give me a bit of time!" Bai Ze said, ignoring all external matters, and pulled out an object resembling a musical box from his storage ring—a device prepared specifically by the teacher for this mission. Initially intended to capture Dragon King Zhuo Geng, its utility was uncertain, but the Dragon Realm had exposed such a vulnerability giving him a chance to exploit it.
"Kill!"
The presence of Bai Ze and the others required no other commands as Phoenix uttered a word, and the guards charged forward as ferociously as unleashed tigers, slaughtering their way. On the Blood Slaughter side, with the Children of Origin led by Nero encircling Bai Ze, the Divine Dragon Guard of the Dragon Realm, although numerically superior, faced opponents who were elders and commanders of high status, plus four Children of Origin securing the area. Despite their imposing momentum, the Divine Dragon Guards were repelled with successive retreats by Nero’s warlike prowess, unable to advance half a step in three waves.
Overlooking the battlefield, Bai Ze was blowing a half-blasted-out crater into the small hill with energy, seeking something no one knew. Yet, an ominous sensation surged within Phoenix, causing her to urgently release boundless flames from her body to incinerate three commanders into ashes, then rush through the newly opened breach.
"Found it!" As Phoenix made a last-ditch effort, Bai Ze, who had been relentlessly excavating the broken hill, finally saw what he wanted.
Seals! Layers upon layers of dense seals!
"Come on, I hope you’ll perform excellently!" Bai Ze said, placing the musical box-like object on top of the sealing array. After swiftly lifting the lid, he leaped out of the deep pit, bounding far away as if what he had opened wasn’t a music box but a time bomb instead.
Uh~ ah~ uh~ ah! Instantly, an eerie, chilling cry of a ghostly infant emitted from the box, captivating everyone within the warring canyon, halting all attacks as they involuntarily covered their heads with their hands and retreated. Of all, Phoenix was the unluckiest as he had just breached the defenses and flew over the pit into direct confrontation with the bizarre sonic wave.
