Chapter 1079: Chapter 1079: Ambush

"Take your brother and leave quickly! We’ll handle things here!" Having made up his mind, Depeo shouted towards the sky, then while pinning down his main adversary, Zheng Jia Ru, he led his men towards the perimeter, trying to draw more people into the battle zone to ensure the Vlad brothers’ escape. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

Without a second thought, Radu dashed out without looking back, feeling not an ounce of guilt for his actions. As a subordinate of the Blood Race, sacrifices were always justified in his eyes.

"Sir, the nearby spaces have been heavily restricted with multiple space locks, we can’t perform spatial teleportation," reported two subordinates dragging Moira to Radu.

"Do you even need to report this? If they’ve set an ambush, they’ve definitely thought of this issue. Keep retreating; their space lock range can’t be too wide. Once we make it out of Chongren Square, we can perform short-distance teleportation, and break through the space to return to the Magic Realm once outside the city!" Radu barked softly as he cut through the various abilities sweeping towards him from the ground.

With no response coming from his subordinates behind him, a sense of unease and vulnerability surged within Radu’s heart. With no time to perceive or look back, he twisted his body and shot three blood arrows backward, then suddenly lunged forward. Despite his quick reaction, a scorching pain erupted on his back.

"Ugh~!" Standing firm despite the pain, Radu looked up at the silently hovering "Moira" where he was moments ago. Previously needing support to stand, she now floated in mid-air by herself, while his subordinates, tasked with protecting her, were unexpectedly struck down in an instant by her ambush.

He noticed the blood dripping from her fingertips, the familiar scent confirming it was indeed her who had injured him.

"Who are you, really?" Radu demanded with a dark expression.

"I can’t control my body! Help, help me!" The "Moira" opposite clutched her head with one hand, her expression pained, begging Radu with a pointed finger.

"Stop acting in front of me! I know you’re not her!" Seeing the person continuing to toy with him like a fool, Radu reversed the hand to send several blood lines slashing toward the other’s throat.

BAM! His prideful bloodline slashing technique was swept away with a simple wave of the other’s palm, surprising Radu and causing him to take the opponent more seriously. The false "Moira," seeing she couldn’t keep up the act, sighed and dropped her disguise, revealing a look of helplessness and a bitter smile. "I thought I was imitating perfectly; how did you notice something was off? I could feel you were wary of me right from the start."

"I’ve never heard a word of thanks from my brother since childhood, let alone to someone he believes took the place rightfully his—me, his younger brother." Radu replied with a cold laugh.

"Oh, I see! So the bond between you brothers really is that bad!" The "Moira" stretched lazily as she spoke, her body shifting from frail to full, her pallid skin gaining some color. As she tore off what remained of her tattered clothing and changed into fresh attire under a soft glow, Radu finally recognized who she was.

"Pei Jin?" Recalling the family’s compiled information on key tasks of the investigation hall, Radu blurted out.

"Ha! I didn’t expect you to recognize me—this is somewhat unexpected," Pei Jin said, surprised to hear her name called out correctly.

"Where is my brother?" Radu, unwilling to engage in further conversation, directly asked the question foremost on his mind.

"He was transferred to the Secret Prison a while ago and secretly imprisoned, but you needn’t worry too much. You’ll soon join him there," Pei Jin said, subtly widening the space lock with a wave of her hand to prevent Radu’s escape.

"Impossible! We received intel...!" Halfway through, Radu suddenly realized, glaring at Pei Jin angrily. "You put on a show for us deliberately!"

"That’s right, your brother was indeed in that convoy. Only, his powers were restricted and I used my abilities to transform him into the appearance of one of our team members. The ’Moira’ in the open was another team member I transformed using my powers. At the opportune moment, I had her reveal her true face, exposing the truth to your moles within the investigation hall so you would believe that the convoy was a ruse, and the real ’Moira’ was still at Yirong Pavilion."

Pei Jin lightly stroked her face as her features shifted along with her explanation. As she returned to her true appearance, she smiled slightly. "Whether you came or not didn’t matter; what mattered was catching those delivering messages outwards. As for you? Whether or not you believe the information we sent out, as long as you make a move, you fall into a trap. We had ample forces awaiting your attack in both locations, drawing you here was solely to minimize potential damage to civilians in the real world once the fight broke out."

"Phew!" After hearing Pei Jin’s explanation, Radu closed his eyes briefly, took a deep breath, then opened his eyes and questioned, "No! Even if what you said is true, why does your scent carry my family’s pure blood? My Blood Race blood detection and tracking technique does not deceive." As he spoke, a possibility suddenly struck Radu, causing him to scrutinize Pei Jin in shock. "Could it be...?"

"What are you thinking! Your brother ended up the way he did—could something like that still happen?" Insulted by the gaze, Pei Jin, enraged, pried open her fingertip and squeezed out a small drop of blood. The moment it appeared, it thrashed about, trying to escape Pei Jin’s grasp and fly toward Radu. Instantly, he recognized this as the source tracked by the bloodline detection technique.

"To merge this blood with my own wasn’t hard. The tricky part was eliminating my blood’s influence over it to deceive your Blood Race’s family bloodline identification technique. My abilities alone wouldn’t suffice—thankfully, Du Guangyuan, once a Blood Servant familiar with the intricacies, helped me. Otherwise, I wouldn’t easily have fooled you."

"Du Guangyuan!" That name again! At one time, Radu had secretly thanked this person in his heart, for it was his interference that caused his brother’s great fall, setting off subsequent events that allowed him to rise to power. But fate is ever-changing! It wasn’t long before he found himself the victim of another of this man’s traps! A lingering threat to the family that must be eliminated!
