Chapter 25: Secretary Amigo
After clearing the Beta-grade dungeon, Luke was back in his dorm around midnight.
He had harvested a total of 260 Flame, but after forging the Bluespine Centaur Chestplate, his balance was small again, meaning he still needed a lot more.
Using the banking app on his phone, Luke transferred 12,000 to the account of Team Blue Crow under an anonymous wallet. He was counting on them to stick to their end of the agreement because he did not want to clash with the Bureau, especially the Warden. If Silas found out that he was handling dungeons behind his back, his life would be over.
"The man with the eye patch..." Luke recalled the leader of Team Blue Crow. "Yeah, I can work with him. He’s not a brainless egomaniac like that cake face. He’s careful about putting his team first, and that’s the kind of person I need for this deal. What do you think, Amigo?"
"I have no doubts, Master!" Amigo replied. "They will make fine puppets!"
Luke chuckled, setting his phone on the nightstand. He had classes tomorrow.
Shifting his attention back to the academy was very important. Principal Claris demanded that he maintain a low profile, and Luke didn’t want to cross her.
The next morning, before Luke headed out for class, he summoned Amigo onto the bed.
Luke knew Amigo very well for his cheerful demeanor, but this time, the beast looked sad. It dropped its head toward its chest as it looked up with watery eyes.
"Master... are you really not taking me to class with you?" he asked sadly. "I can hide in your sock! I won’t make a peep, I promise!"
"Nope, sorry pal," Luke refused as he handed Amigo his phone instead. freeweɓnøvel.com
"Here, this is your mission for today," Luke explained. "I have class, so I need you to handle the business side of things. Watch this screen. If a call comes in, answer it and write down the customer’s order precisely. We can’t afford to miss even one client, got it?"
Amigo lowered its head forlornly.
But Luke was doing this for the success of their business.
He expected the sign he taped to his shop last night to be full already, meaning, the backup phone number he left on the kiosk would likely ring all day today.
Luke planned to have Amigo log all the customer data while he spent the rest of the day as a student. Once classes were over for the day, Luke could just take all the lists and mass-produce every piece of armor at once using his new skill, Auto-Forge.
But Amigo was sad and anxious about being left behind for that long.
"Master... I’m scared to be alone here. What if a scary upperclassman breaks the door down? What if a giant dust bunny eats me? I’m just a little guy!"
"Huh? A cowardly mythic-grade beast?" Luke teased. "Aren’t you canonically over tens of thousands of years old?"
"Sigh..." Amigo took his gaze away.
Poor beast. Luke’s heart softened at the sight.
He crouched by the bedside and looked at the turtle right in the eyes.
"Hey, don’t worry about it," Luke assured. "This is an elite dormitory with good security. Nobody is breaking in, and you’re perfectly safe here."
To cheer the turtle up, Luke decided to add an incentive.
"Tell you what. Once our profits grow, I’ll buy you raw monster cores to eat so you can level up and get strong. How does that sound?"
"Cores?! Real, crunchy monster cores?!" Amigo squeaked happily, hugging the smartphone. "Say no more, Master! I am your loyal secretary! I promise you I won’t miss one phone call today! Go to class now!"
Luke smiled and petted his companion before he left his dorm.
Outside his dormitory, Luke noticed his presence ruined the pleasant morning. As he crossed the courtyard, passing staff stared openly. Some stood behind pillars to spectate, while others craned their necks. Because Luke was the infamous banished heir of his family, everyone in the academy viewed him as a stain on the institution’s prestigious reputation.
"It is a disgrace for him to even show his face around here after his own family disowned him."
"Management probably has no idea he sneaked back into the dorms!"
"He doesn’t belong here. Security needs to be called to throw him out immediately."
Luke ignored their venomous looks, walking indifferently into the crowded student areas. The reaction from the student body was even harsher. Juniors and seniors mocked him openly, teasing and whispering vicious things just loud enough for him to hear.
"Look, it’s the trash heir. He actually has the nerve to show up for lectures."
"I still can’t believe he summoned a glove when everyone else gets a powerful beast. This guy is the definition of failure!"
In the eyes of the campus, Luke was just a fallen noble who was at the bottom of the pecking order now, but they had no idea this same failure no-hits a Gamma-grade Boss.
Luke didn’t care enough to correct them.
Turning a corner into the hallway leading to the lecture halls, he saw something that stopped him in his tracks.
Or rather, someone.
A breathtaking girl with light red hair stood just a few meters ahead, her perfect curves filling out her uniform jacket and skirt. She looked innocent as she stood there, studying a notice board on the wall.
At the sound of Luke’s footsteps stopping, Scarlett turned her head, her long hair swirling over her shoulder.
Luke was the last person she expected to see. Both of them froze, staring at each other in shock.
