Chapter 435: Brave Blast... The Last Laugh

Saint jumped on the neck of his lion, and it began to grow bigger with each step it took. Its head barely reached the roof, but after five steps, its shoulders towered over all the buildings in the town.

The sound of the train moving away from the station rang in Saint’s ears. He turned, glancing at the long locomotive making its way away from the town, and a gentle smile appeared on his face.

’It’s been a journey, Brave.’ He caressed the lion’s mane, and it growled softly, shaking its head as they made their way to the other side of the town where a massive army approached.

The cold gale blew fiercely, picking up dust and sand. The rooftops of some buildings in the town were blown off.

There were barely over a hundred people here. This place reeked of loneliness and poverty but... it was his home.

’My story never ended as it started. Having a feud with a demoness who flaunts her might around, facing demons at every turn, being poisoned, and watching life drain out of me till I lost my hair.’

Saint touched his bald head.

’I used to have long red hair and a good physique, but I lost all that in less than three years.’ His eyes narrowed.

Saint crossed his arms as his lion came out of the town.

He looked at the sky, then at the army led by the demon brothers.

Saint knew this was his burial ground, yet a fierce smile graced his lips. He had the ability to survive this fight, but what was the use? What was the meaning of being chased and chased and treated like some kind of toy?

Saint had grown tired of it. The poison might kill him before the next countdown, so why not go out with a big bang, like his usual style?

’Oh, how exhilarating this is?!’ Saint’s once-weak voice blasted out through the expanse. ’You hunt me, but you can’t kill me. Doesn’t it enrage you that I choose the time I want to die? Doesn’t it hurt that ugly heart of yours that I, who have taken the name Saint, will die a brave death, that I will stare down at you in the afterlife when you become a harrowing omen?!’

His voice boomed. His beard and rags fluttered fiercely.

The clouds in the shape of a woman’s head frowned.

"The Afterlife won’t save you, you fool."

"Hahaha!" Saint laughed loudly. "Come then."

He activated Eclipsal State, and his mighty lion fused with him. It looked like it altered his DNA, transforming the bald, aged man into a hulking twelve-foot lion-man.

His bald head was replaced with a thick white mane, fluttering fiercely in the wind. His pupils became large and round with a dull yellow glow.

Whiskers came out of his face, which looked like a lion mixed with a man’s. He grew a tail, his legs became digitigrade, packed with muscles and power as his tail swept behind him.

Saint let out a roar so powerful, Percival and everyone in the speeding train heard it.

After the roar, Saint began to laugh. It was low, yet deep. Oh, he felt so exhilarated.

He felt so alive.

Saint wanted to feel this way forever. This confidence, this bravery. He had never lacked either, but this day, he saw the epitome of both.

Confidence burned bright within him, and bravery pushed him. It filled him with bursts of purpose, of determination that made his heart pump with more effort even when he was marching to certain death.

One man moved in the fierce gale toward an army of thousands led by two demigods. Saint knew they wouldn’t spare anything else once he was dead, so.... he would take them along with him.

His rags barely held on to his body, as a good portion of them had torn due to the increase in his size.

His long mane began to emit a soft white yet dauntless white glow. Into death, a death he gave himself, he marched, yet never had Saint felt so glad.

It was beyond expression. So much that he couldn’t stop laughing, his voice carried far by the wind.

Saint smirked, then unleashed a much louder roar. The earth shook like dynamite had exploded several meters below the ground, but this was a response to Saint’s sudden launch.

His powerful feet pounded the ground, catapulting him straight into the ranks of the demon army. Black claws carved through several bodies, spilling blood and tossing corpses to the ground.

The moment he landed, the soft white light from his mane became blinding. It was like light was tearing from his insides, forcing its way through his muscles.

Saint was surrounded in an instant. He kept cleaving through the army with roars of laughter.

He was the sole light in a vast crowd of darkness, and though the darkness seemed endless and the light small, that light kept growing stronger.

The farther the train got, the stronger the light became. This time around, it was already burning through demons.

’In times of death, they say your life flashes before your eyes...’ Saint thought. ’It’s strange because nothing flashes through mine. All I feel is the pain of an unbearable heat from the core of my being, forcing its way out. Yet, despite this pain, my heart leaps, my mind has never been sharper, and I... have never felt more... content. The time has come.’ freewebnøvel.com

Brave Blast.

BOOM!

Percival saw a mighty mushroom cloud made of fire wipe out the clouds in the distance. At first, it seemed like that explosion was far away, but the next moment it spread out.

The town was erased by flames in an instant, yet it kept spreading, chasing after the train with greater speed.

He could see everything it touched pulverized. The power of a demigod sacrificing himself for one skill.

Percival quickly made his way to the top of the train. If he didn’t try to do something, they would all die.

But he saw Lucy. She was quite tall, with the spots of a leopard, long hair, leopard ears, elegant digitigrade legs, and a long tail.

Long golden strands drifted off her. It looked so celestial. Like she was of this world and not at the same time.

Her upturned feline eyes were locked on the explosion. The mushroom cloud was still there, in that far distance, as its destructive might spread far with the brave roar of a demigod.

’Mia...’

Lucy muttered under her breath. Her eyes shone bright. Mia had the abilities of a black hole, all broken down and mastered by Saint.

All that knowledge was in Mia and, once linked with Mia in her Eclipsal State, Lucy could access this powerful storage.

She activated Time Distortion, slowing down the heat wave and the fire heading for them.

This Temporal Mire was draining her without mercy, and it was barely fifteen seconds.

Lucy deactivated the skill and activated Space Distortion.

Since black holes bend spacetime itself, she could create a warped distance. Even when the heat and fire reached them, the distortion made it seem the fire was still far away.

Percival nodded, then summoned Levi. Everyone had to leave the train and hop on Levi despite their fear, while Percival drew water from everywhere possible while calling forth water from the Sea World.

He formed a river midair!

Everyone was under time. Some slipped on the leviathan’s back, few were so afraid they couldn’t stop trembling. But it was either that or they would die. When the last person was on Levi’s back, Percival turned to the girl on top the train.

"Lucy!"

Hearing his yell, Lucy leaped onto Levi’s back, and the mighty sea behemoth moved with greater speed than the train, ascending into the sky within this floating river.

The train was consumed while they fled.

Lucy turned to see Percival smiling but his skin was extremely pale. It had to cost an arm and a leg to literally summon a river and make it move midair.

"Y... y..." Veins crept up his neck as he forced himself. "... You did really well back there."

Lucy didn’t know what to say or feel. She was both glad and sad at the same time.

"You know what?" Percival turned back to the fading mushroom cloud in the distance while the expanse was still being ravaged by fire.

"I feel like Saint should have met Godfrey."

"He called us an interesting pair because he hasn’t seen Godfrey and Isolde." Lucy pursed her lips.

Percival, who sat on Levi, lifted his head to look at her. She stood and he sat, so while he looked up, she looked down to meet his gaze.

Percival cleared his throat. "So... this isn’t the right time but... are we a pair?"
