Chapter 97: Chapter 95: See No Evil
When Bai Chi arrived at the North Wing Tribe, Mo Xiao and Fei Yan were just preparing to leave.
Thankfully, he was a moment early, or he would have missed them.
A flash of surprise crossed Mo Xiao and Fei Yan’s faces when they saw Bai Chi.
"What brings you here, General Bai? Perfect timing. We were just about to set off for the Tiger Clan Tribe."
Bai Chi’s face lit up. "What a coincidence! I was actually sent by our clan’s Steward to invite you all over. In that case, let’s go together!"
Mo Xiao and Fei Yan exchanged a look and said, "Alright."
Bai Chi glanced behind them and asked, "Excuse me, is Miss Su here?"
Mo Xiao looked puzzled. "General Bai, do you have business with my wife?"
"Well, the Steward insisted that I invite Miss Su over so I can thank her in person for saving my life."
Fei Yan knitted his brows. "She’s out."
At this, Bai Chi’s brow furrowed. "When will Miss Su be back? I’m not in a hurry; I can wait for her. The clan’s Steward has already prepared a feast with fine wine and insisted that I bring everyone. If Miss Su doesn’t come, it’ll be difficult for me to answer for it..."
Fei Yan glanced at Mo Xiao. A question formed in both their minds.
’Why is this Tiger Clan Steward so insistent on seeing our wife?’
’It seems General Bai has no intention of leaving today unless he sees our wife.’
Mo Xiao fell silent for a moment before saying, "She went out mainly to wander around, so she probably won’t be back for a while. She might pass through the Tiger Clan’s market, though. Why don’t we go look for her there? We might be able to find her."
Bai Chi listened and then smiled. "An excellent idea!"
With that, the three of them set off on their journey.
A short while later, the white cat napping on the firewood pile in the courtyard vanished in a blur, reappearing inside Su Mo’s room.
After rummaging around to no avail, it leaped out the window and quickly vanished from the courtyard.
「At the Tiger Clan Market」
Yue Ying and Su Mo had already arrived. Before they left, Fei Yan had asked Cang Lan to accompany them.
Because of the last time Su Mo was abducted, Fei Yan was now extremely vigilant about her safety when she went out.
Jin Tong wasn’t dead yet, and there was no telling when he might try another sneak attack.
Right now, his wife’s safety was the most important thing.
The Tiger Clan Tribe was predominantly home to Tiger Beastmen, though there were some other Beastmen as well.
The street stalls weren’t much different from the ones back in the North Wing Tribe. There were a few Tiger Clan specialties, but on the whole, it was more or less the same.
Su Mo wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but she felt that the Tiger Clan’s population seemed to be larger than the North Wing Tribe’s.
She mentioned this observation to Yue Ying.
Yue Ying smiled. "Yes, their population is a bit larger than ours. The Beastmen in the North Wing Tribe are more of a mix, so it’s not as easy to manage as the Dragon Clan or Tiger Clan."
Su Mo raised an eyebrow. "So if a fight broke out, would the North Wing Tribe be a match for the Tiger Clan?"
"It’s hard to say. The three tribes haven’t fought in a long time, so none of them are certain of the others’ true strength. They’ve all signed treaties to stay out of each other’s affairs."
Su Mo wasn’t convinced.
’There’s no such thing as eternal peace, no matter where you are. In the original novel, these three tribes ended up fighting an inextricable war in the later stages. But it’s really hard to say who was stronger. A pity I never got to read the ending...’
A handicraft stall caught Su Mo’s eye, and she stopped to look for a moment.
Cang Lan, following behind her, couldn’t hide the excitement in his bright, clear eyes. "Wife, you like this? I’ll make one for you when we get back!"
Su Mo nodded. "I’d love that!"
As she scanned the goods at the market, she began to wonder. ’Maybe I could open a shop in the North Wing Market later on.’
’After all, if I’m going to survive here long-term, I need to earn more money.’
’The amount of money that damn system gives me is limited. If I want to strike it rich, I’ll have to rely on myself!’
Just as she was thinking this, she turned her head and saw a silver-haired man dressed in simple clothes. Though he wore a veiled hat, it could not conceal his breathtaking beauty.
Su Mo froze for a moment.
’I knew the Beast World was full of handsome men, but I didn’t realize it was *this* full... To run into a hottie just by walking down the street? My luck is truly on another level~’
Cang Lan frowned, taking a swift step to block her line of sight.
When Su Mo tilted her head to look around him, he shifted to block her view completely.
’This petty black panther,’ she fumed. ’What’s the big deal if I take one little peek? I’m not going out shopping with him again!’
Hearing her thoughts, Cang Lan’s brow twitched, and he reluctantly stepped aside a little.
Just then, she heard someone in the crowd call out, "It’s the Third Young Master!"
"The Third Young Master has arrived!"
Su Mo followed the voices and saw the man in simple robes surrounded by people in the middle of the path. He had a tall, slender figure, and his moon-white robes made him appear as cool and pure as frost and snow.
His silver hair was partially tied back, and he possessed an innate, otherworldly grace. Even from behind a veil, his breathtaking beauty was impossible to hide. No wonder people were swarming on both sides of the road to get a glimpse.
Even Little Nine couldn’t help but pop up. "Host! It’s a hottie! WOW, that face, that figure! He’s absolutely to die for!"
Su Mo was dazed for a few seconds before silently replying, ’He’s handsome, sure, but he doesn’t look like he’d be easy to get along with.’
’Though the man had the face of an exiled immortal, the frost gathered between his brows robbed him of any warmth.’
The attendant standing beside him shouted impatiently, "Make way, quickly! Don’t block the Young Master’s path."
Su Mo frowned. ’TSK, TSK. A difficult person’s attendant is just as difficult,’ she thought.
Someone standing near the edge of the crowd was suddenly shoved, and they stumbled directly toward the man in simple robes.
The next second, the silver-haired man’s attendant, with lightning reflexes, roughly shoved the person away. "Don’t you dare be disrespectful to the Young Master!"
He had acted rashly out of urgency, but the female he shoved lost her balance and went tumbling backward!
Like a row of dominoes, the scene spiraled out of control.
Su Mo was nearly knocked over by the person in front of her, but thankfully, Cang Lan managed to catch them in time.
A flicker of panic crossed the attendant’s face, but he remained defiant. "Who told you to stand here and block the Young Master’s path? You brought this on yourselves!"
The silver-haired man at his side frowned slightly, glanced at him, and said, "Not another word. Let’s go."
A female in the crowd praised him, "Third Young Master... how- how can you be so handsome?"
The man’s gaze instantly turned icy, his eyes filling with frost.
The attendant beside him spoke impatiently. "Back off! All of you, back off! Gaping at a man in broad daylight, what has become of decency!"
The scolded female blushed, muttering defiantly, "He’s handsome. What’s wrong with taking a look?"
The attendant fumed, "’Look not at what is contrary to propriety,’ do you understand? A woman should be demure and graceful. How can you all be so brazen..."
A flash of shame and anger crossed the female’s face. She didn’t understand his exact words, but her intuition told her they weren’t complimentary.
The man in white tilted his head to glance at his attendant, his brow furrowing in displeasure. "Stop spouting nonsense!"
The attendant stood with his head bowed, still muttering defiantly, "But I wasn’t wrong..."
"You..."
Before Xuan Qing could finish, a soft chuckle came from the crowd.
Then, a light female voice spoke up. "If taking an extra glance at a handsome person is a breach of etiquette, then is a peacock fanning its tail an act of public indecency? By your logic, shouldn’t your Young Master be driven to die of shame every day when he looks at himself in the mirror?"
Xuan Qing looked toward the voice and, with a single glance, recognized the speaker: Su Mo, the fiancée of those beastmen from the North Wing Tribe.
Although he hadn’t come face-to-face with her during the battle with Jin Tong, the glimpse he’d caught of her on the city wall was enough for him to recognize her.
The attendant, Jin Yan, stammered at Su Mo, "H-how can you compare the two! You’re just twisting words and making excuses!"
Su Mo raised a delicate eyebrow. "If I’m twisting words, then I suppose the classic poem that says, ’A fair and gentle maiden is a gentleman’s desire,’ is just a hooligan’s excuse, then?"
Jin Yan was left speechless. Though he had picked up a thing or two from his master, he was now painfully aware of how little he’d actually studied...
’This woman is infuriatingly clever and difficult,’ he thought.
A flicker of movement in Xuan Qing’s eyes was the only change in his expression. His cool, tranquil gaze fell upon Su Mo. "My attendant was in the wrong just now."
Su Mo shrugged nonchalantly. "It’s nothing~ I suppose I also said too much."
With that, she turned and walked on. Up ahead, Yue Ying was still talking with another Beastman.
He had been aware of the commotion behind him but couldn’t break away from his conversation, so he hadn’t come over.
’Besides,’ he thought, ’with that sharp tongue of hers, his wife had never lost an argument.’
Soon, Xuan Qing also turned to leave with his attendant. Jin Yan said resentfully, "That woman is uncommonly sharp-tongued! Any Beastman who marries her would probably be driven into a fuming rage every single day!"
Xuan Qing scolded him in a cold voice. "You have said far too much today. Have you completely forgotten the meaning behind the name I gave you, Jin Yan? Go back and receive ten lashes from the Second Miss."
Jin Yan immediately fell silent, standing with his head bowed. "Yes."
The name Jin Yan was a pun, sounding just like the words for "to speak cautiously."
His master had always warned him to be cautious with his words and actions, but he just couldn’t seem to control his mouth...
