Chapter 105: Chapter 103: Is That the Original Female Protagonist?

Su Mo turned and saw a splash of blood on the hem of Fei Yan’s pale silver robe.

Her brow furrowed as she looked him over.

Thankfully, it looked like he was only slightly injured on the web of his hand.

She picked up a medicine jar and walked over to treat his wound.

Fei Yan smiled gently at her. "There’s no rush. I’ll take you to breakfast first."

He pulled Su Mo along to the kitchen.

Someone in the kitchen immediately brought out a plate of food for Fei Yan, chuckling. "It’s all been prepared just as you instructed."

Fei Yan accepted it with a nod of thanks, then led Su Mo to a nearby table to sit.

Su Mo was indeed a little hungry. After all, she had been helping Xuan Wei tend to the wounded ever since she woke up.

When she had nearly finished eating, she rested her chin on her hand and smiled at him. "So, did you come all the way back just to watch me eat?"

Fei Yan reached out to gently wipe a crumb from the corner of her mouth. He nodded. "Yes. I knew you’d be busy with the wounded as soon as you woke up and would completely forget to eat."

Su Mo’s eyes crinkled in a smile. "Fei Yan, you’re so good to me."

She reached for his hand. "Let me take care of that wound."

Fei Yan watched her with his gentle eyes, letting her tend to him.

To him, such a small injury was nothing.

He knew his wife was aware of this, but being cared for so deeply was a blissful experience.

After Su Mo finished treating his hand, she asked about the situation on the front lines.

Fei Yan gave her a brief overview, and Su Mo’s brow furrowed as she listened.

"A woman in red?"

’Could it be the original novel’s female protagonist?’

Su Mo said, "I’ll go with you to take a look in a bit."

Fei Yan frowned. "It’s too dangerous there. Wife, you shouldn’t go."

In his eyes, it didn’t matter one bit if that woman was the protagonist. Her safety was what mattered most.

"I’ll just hide far behind you all and take a quick look. I’ll be fine."

Fei Yan couldn’t dissuade her, so in the end, he took her with him.

By the time she and Fei Yan arrived, Yue Ying, Mo Xiao, and Cang Lan were in the midst of a fierce battle with the enemy.

Catching sight of her familiar figure out of the corners of their eyes, worry flashed across all three of their faces.

Mo Xiao shot Fei Yan a look, signaling him to protect their wife.

Because Tian Huan was injured and hadn’t recovered yet, he was not fighting on the front lines today. He was discussing the current situation with Xuan Qing, trying to figure out how to end this battle as quickly as possible.

Even though Long Yan had brought reinforcements, it was best not to let the battle drag on.

Seeing Su Mo come over, Tian Huan looked surprised. "Miss Su, what are you doing here?"

Su Mo said calmly, "I came to have a look."

She glanced down from the city walls. Below, the battlefield was a seething tide of bodies. The air was a cacophony of roars and clashing weapons, thick with the terrifying stench of blood and a hint of poison.

Blood formed dark red rivulets that soaked into the mud, a truly gruesome sight.

This was the first time Su Mo had faced a real battlefield. It was hundreds of times more brutal than any scene she had ever watched on TV.

She instinctively clenched her fists at her sides and took a step back.

Fei Yan reached out in time to steady her, saying with concern, "Wife, if you’re scared, you should go back."

Su Mo frowned. It wasn’t exactly fear she felt, but seeing a scene like this, her heart couldn’t help but feel heavy.

Looking into the distance, she could see a conspicuous flash of red in the midst of the enemy horde.

Su Mo frowned.

’Is that the female protagonist, Jiang Wu?’

’Strange. In the original book, her ambition didn’t reveal itself so quickly. The battle with the Tiger Clan happened much later. Why is it so much earlier this time?’

’An army this strong is clearly here to destroy the Tiger Clan. A plan this deep wasn’t conceived overnight.’

’The plot has gone completely off the rails... The enemy is terrifyingly strong...’

’It looks like if I want to live a peaceful life in the Beast World, I’ll have to make some other plans. The original novel’s plot is pretty much useless as a reference now.’

Beside her, Fei Yan couldn’t help but frown.

Below the city walls.

Outside an enemy tent, Jin Tong gazed from afar at the blurry figure on the city wall.

’Maybe I really should have gotten rid of that woman, Su Mo, sooner.’

’But it doesn’t matter. There will always be another chance.’

’If she falls into my hands again, she won’t be so lucky.’

Jin Tong turned and entered the tent.

Jiang Wu followed his gaze for a moment, then also went inside.

"Given the situation, don’t you have anything to say to me, Jin Tong?"

Jin Tong walked over to the seat of honor and sat down. His tone was dismissive. "Skies rain, people miscalculate. Victory and defeat are never certain. It’s as simple as that."

Hearing this, the woman’s expression turned cold. She abruptly drew a flexible whip from her waist and, with a sharp CRACK, slammed it down on the table in front of Jin Tong.

In an instant, the paper and brushes on the table were swept to the ground.

"You said the chances of victory in this campaign were extremely high. Now look at the situation. You think you can dismiss me with a flippant remark about victory and defeat being uncertain?"

With that, she lashed her long whip toward Jin Tong, intending to teach him a lesson.

Jin Tong’s sharp gaze swept over her as he raised a hand and caught the whip.

"City Lord, you made your own calculations before deploying your troops. You can’t just blame everyone else when things don’t go as expected, can you? I told you before: win or lose, the outcome is your own responsibility. I only said the odds of victory were high, I never guaranteed you’d win."

"The battle isn’t over yet, so why is the City Lord so eager to fall into disarray? And so what if you lose? With so many soldiers under your command, are you really afraid of a single, small Tiger Clan?"

As he finished speaking, the Beast Skin Whip in his hand crumbled to dust and vanished into the air.

Jiang Wu laughed. "’The outcome is your own responsibility.’ A fine saying indeed!"

With that, she turned and stalked out.

Seeing her leave, Lin Shan couldn’t help but ask, "Sect Leader, is City Lord Jiang angry?"

"What’s it to me?" he scoffed. He wasn’t one of her Beast Husbands, forced to live at her beck and call.

Lin Shan frowned. "The Dragon Clan’s lieutenant general and his men are at our backs. We’re being attacked from both sides. I’m afraid our chances of taking the Tiger Clan this time are slim. We should withdraw, rest and recover, and fight another day."

Jin Tong sneered. "They’re not my men being wasted, so what’s the rush?" ’Winning this time is impossible,’ he thought, ’but I want to use this chance to see the Tiger Clan’s limits... and what other tricks that Su Mo has up her sleeve.’

Lin Shan was about to leave when he seemed to remember something and said in a low voice, "Sect Leader, could you give me some suppressants?"

Jin Tong took a medicine pouch from his waist and tossed it over.

Lin Shan caught it, tilted his head back, and swallowed the contents, then seemed to remember something else.

’The Sect Leader’s heat is usually around the same time as mine. Whenever it hits, he doesn’t just need suppressants; he has to soak in the ice spring of the Cold Pond to keep it under control.’

’But we’re far from the Cold Pond’s ice spring now. We really need to withdraw as soon as possible.’

’But looking at the Sect Leader’s current state, he doesn’t look like he’s about to go into heat at all.’

Lin Shan asked, puzzled, "Sect Leader, has your heat been delayed?"

Hearing this, Jin Tong shot him a look that scared Lin Shan into silence.

He quickly made an excuse and retreated.

A loud CRASH echoed from behind him, as if something had been smashed to pieces.

Lin Shan was completely bewildered. ’Did I say something wrong? Why did the Sect Leader suddenly fly into a rage?’

In the tent, Jin Tong ground his teeth, muttering that name: "Su Mo!"

’Next time we meet, I will definitely kill her!’

’She not only dared to poison me, she even dared to feed me...’

’That damn woman!’
